to expect people not to smoke cannabis around children?

I went to a bbq yesterday with some new friends and although I sort of knew that they all smoked a bit, I was surprised they did it quite openly.

My kids were totally oblivious to it and none of the others noticed either. Is this normal? Am I just a complete prude and out of touch?

victoriascrumptious I bet all the bbqs you have been to are called 'garden parties' and require ladies to sport short white gloves and floral tea dresses

sherby · 31/08/2009 20:06

lol at police raiding a bbq where people were smoking weed

yes and they also have a crack team hunting down the person that keyed my car last week

victoriascrumptious · 31/08/2009 20:07

Sherby: you obviously live in a high crime area. May I suggest you move somewhere nicer.

victoriascrumptious · 31/08/2009 20:08

Crack: Yes, that is an adequate description of the sort of events I attend. After the loyal toast we snort a few lines of Special K to ensure good digestion

PMSL at this thread. Custardo and victoriascrumptious you have made me

I agree with thesecondcoming, really not a massive deal. The OP said none of the kids noticed..
I know of people who smoked a lot inside and in front of their kids, I thought that was sad, they were good parents in all other ways but didn't get what impact they were having I think. Was very akward after we had dd as we didn't want to visit them anymore.

lol at this thread. Like i said none of the kids noticed and no one was behaving outrageously, it was all completely normal. I guess i was just surprised that they didn't wait until the evening or something and that they felt comfortable enough to do it in front of me. But if that is their norm i suppose it wasn't a big deal.

You haven't said whether the smokers had children or not.

Cannabis is a drug, so is alcohol, so are sleeping pills, so are cigarettes.

Which is worst out of these? Not cannabis.

I doubt the average 5 year old would even know that somebody was smoking a joint rather than a cigarette, and to said child somebody simply smoking cigarettes is just as bad an example to set - but that's done everywhere, and the response to 'AIBU to expect people not to smoke cigarettes around my children outside' would be 'don't be such a nutter'.

It's not as if your children are going to get stoned by somebody smoking a joint outside.

harleyd · 31/08/2009 22:06

someguy...i agree

anya37 · 31/08/2009 22:20

Sorry, all of them had children.
