to expect people not to smoke cannabis around children?

I went to a bbq yesterday with some new friends and although I sort of knew that they all smoked a bit, I was surprised they did it quite openly.

My kids were totally oblivious to it and none of the others noticed either. Is this normal? Am I just a complete prude and out of touch?

I would not do it, but someone else doing it would make no difference to me or my dc.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/08/2009 19:25

OP did the stoners have children, or was the issue that they were doing it in front of your dcs?

You cant dictate what other people do around your children. If you objected so much you should have left.

pjmama · 31/08/2009 19:36

I pity the DC of anyone who thinks smoking ANYTHING around them is acceptable.

I don't like smoking around children either but I expect and accept it to happen in gatherings of people.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/08/2009 19:42

LMAO at sanctimonious giffer

They were OUTDOORS!

victoriascrumptious · 31/08/2009 19:42

I think it's very rude of them not to warn people in advance so that if you are not comfortable with that happening in front of your children you have a choice not to attend.

I wonder how they'd explain away the police arriving to their kids

I choose not to socialise with people who drink to excess or use drugs at all, let alone at a daytime occasion where children are around.

So I would have left I think.

pjmama · 31/08/2009 19:48

thesecondcoming - of course I drive, but I don't stuff my DCs head up the exhaust pipe! And since as you state you don't smoke around your kids, then my comment wasn't directed at you was it?

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/08/2009 19:49

The police would have absolutely no interest in attending a bbq where spliffs were being smoked, ffs.

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 31/08/2009 19:50

And in exactly the same way, pjmama, people were smoking outdoors in the garden where children were present, not giving babies blowbacks

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 31/08/2009 19:51

I'm with sidge. I'm afarid I would have left.

victoriascrumptious · 31/08/2009 19:52

Erm they would round my next of the woods. I don't live in Birmingham or some such place.

I actually have no issue at all with people smoking weed. I do think it's rude however to not check that other people are ok with it

I've never been there Crack so I shouldnt judge but I was once on a train that stopped at Birmingham New Street. It was very dark and the people there looked very unheathy and angry looking. I decided not to get off
