all this 'interesting first post 66mumtodaisy?' followed by the obligatory ghastly eyebrow emoticon. is driving me fecking nuts.

OP posts:

I really think some people need to take a break, get a life some perspective and come back slightly less bitter and cynical. That thread is so nasty.

Lizzylou · 18/06/2009 13:49

Isn't it just.
For a genuine poster who is really upset, can you imagine how awful it must be to have all these posters bitching and disbelieving you?

scaredoflove · 18/06/2009 13:57

trollspotters need to get a new hobby, some people on that thread are just nasty and revelling in their smugness, ugly ugly people

That poor woman is going through hell and has been ripped to pieces

I hope she comes back

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 14:02

Oh bloody hell.

While I dont retract my original posts on the subject, THAT is just OTT, THAT is disgraceful.

Rhubarb · 18/06/2009 14:04

Hmm, I see your point and I usually ask people to click the bloody red exclamation mark - that's what it's there for!

But I came across one I was convinced was a troll. Her sob story had inconsistences, it was implausible and just a bit far fetched. Normally I'd just report it, but some Mumsnetters had given away personal details in a bid to help her, they had contacted her via CAT and one had even offered to meet her. I thought this was potentially very dangerous and so I voiced my concerns on the thread.

It's really hard because we've had so many fecking trolls lately, some not nice at all - like the one who didn't believe that you could be raped by your partner. I could see that people were clearly being hurt by that one and the OP was enjoying it. So there is a real sense of anger and peoples suspicions are being raised.

But you do have a very valid point about these amateur detectives, who take it upon themselves to out "trolls" very publicly. Like you say, it's become a bit of a competition. Some people are getting carried away and need to step back.

LadyAga · 18/06/2009 14:05

FGS, who has attacked Psycho, or anyone for that matter?

I haven't seen anything bitchy or catty on this thread. I think this is a rather tame for AIBU; which does have a disclaimer making it clear that people will have different opinions to you. If you have seen personal attacks you should be reporting it as also stated in the disclaimer.

Rhubarb · 18/06/2009 14:12

Ah, I see I should have read more of the recent messages as well as the OP.

But fwiw, I could go on about the self-appointed Mumsnet police, because we all know they exist. But I don't care enough to name them. I've seen the posts outing so-called trolls, being rude to newbies, correcting people's grammar and spelling, but I'm not sad enough to keep a database of names.

I'd find it more insulting that, people have read general descriptions and come up with names to fit!

MonkeyMadnessssssssssss · 18/06/2009 14:14

I think Lofty has quite succinctly hit the nail on the head tbh.

Jumente · 18/06/2009 17:18

Monkey. You have 13 posts to your name, and nearly all of them are having a pop at Psycho. If I didn't know better than to start digging about, I might - just for a moment - think you had namechanged in order to attack her personally.

But of course that would only meet with cries of ridicule and false accusations.

Can you tell us who you were before this name? Or would that be bowing to the forces of troll hunting?

Jumente · 18/06/2009 17:26

Oh no, you actually have 57...don't you...?

In fact, I'd hazard a guess that you are actually Lofty. That was clever!

Jumente · 18/06/2009 21:35

...just to say suspicions were correct, and Monkey whatever and her alias Lofty are no more.

You can come out now dear!

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 22:21

psst

here kitty kitty

letsgostrawberrypicking · 19/06/2009 12:33

Jumente - you cheeky thing outing a troll on an anti-outing-troll-finding-thread!!

Jumente · 19/06/2009 12:53

Bit postmodern wasn't it oops
