all this 'interesting first post 66mumtodaisy?' followed by the obligatory ghastly eyebrow emoticon. is driving me fecking nuts.

OP posts:
MaggieBee · 18/06/2009 08:26

Pyscho, I haven't read any comments trashing YOU! ANd I spend FAR too much time here!

LadyAga · 18/06/2009 09:37

Nope neither have I.

It appears it was you MaggieBee talking about me on another thread! But I don't mind, these things don't bother me at all

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 09:40

Lots of new names on this thread I see. I expect many of you have not been here long, and have no knowledge of "troll pre history" here.

Welcome to Mumsnet!

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 09:41

There seem to be two such threads going at the moment, so I will repeat what I said on the other:

Having been around a while, I have seen a fair few trolls.

The "pity me for my life is hard" story lines that eventually leads to people parting with cash (TWR) and baby equipment (bjjb), even furniture.

The "pity me I need support" trolls who feed on others emotions, who especially catch the attention of people (like psycho, I mention you seeing as you are on this thread) who has had some pretty bad experiences themselves, who suck in people who have been/are vulnerable and prey on them for stories and outpourings.

The "Racism/Benefits/Current News Headlines" troll who get peoples blood to boil with their outlandish views.

The "look at me I am a an outrigh weirdo" trolls, who cause a few raised eyebrows but dont do much harm.

I think anybody who is fed up with people doing a or "retreat to under your bridge" commment, are a bit naive. They havent been around long enough to see the emotional damage, direct or indirect (FAQ for example, sorry, again mention you as you are on the thread), and people being hurt as they have parted with cash/stuff, will know, like SGB that you SHOULD exercise caution. Also, people have been around here some time, if they do shout "troll" they might be right, and do so, not to be smug, or "holyer than thou" but because they care for this community and the people in it.

So bollocks to you if you cannot stand a few "troll calls" or raised eyebrows.

chevre · 18/06/2009 10:08

i have been here ages quint so bollocks right back at you.

this thread was not started in support of trolls or attacking a particular poster it was just me getting peed off with the constant freaking at perfectly innocent posters.

OP posts:
LadyAga · 18/06/2009 10:15

To summarise QuintessentialShadow, you are saying that unless a MNer has made herself known to you and has been using the site as long as you then they have no right to opinion on trolls.

Kindly let me know what else I am not entitled to have an opinion about so that I may become a better MN user.

By the way, I am impressed that you have been able to keep track of every MN user and their name changes for how long now? Wow, exactly how many users would that be over that period?

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 10:16

You might have been here ages, but currently any new name (who claims to be an oldie)and is irritated with people outing trolls WILL get a raised eyebrow from me.

There is a hide thread facility you can use.

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 10:17

LadyAga, that is not what I am saying. I am saying that I understand why they dont understand what is going on at the moment.

QuintessentialShadow · 18/06/2009 10:20

And I guess, what I am also saying is that I dont give a flying fuck that some people get irritated by raised eyebrows on "suspicious" threads.

chevre · 18/06/2009 10:20

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! not the passive agressive that does it, you have completely ruined my day you beatch.

OP posts:
chevre · 18/06/2009 10:21

i remember teh poster who pretended to kill herself - ah those were teh days!

Oops wrong thread, though strangely relevant.

BitOfFun · 18/06/2009 11:08

Wow, I've only read the second link (in fact not quite finished it yet) - fascinating!

< keels over clutching chest > , oops, I mean

TheDevilWearsYFronts · 18/06/2009 11:10

Have you read the article posted 'in the news'?

Crazy story about a woman who faked a pregnancy and death of her baby, so sad.

BitOfFun · 18/06/2009 11:19

I think so - did she use a doll that got recognised? And write a blog that the ant-abortion crew championed? I can see how she got painted into a corner, tbh.

HolyGuacamole · 18/06/2009 12:03

Great links Devil.

Psycho, I hope that you are ok and that you come back soon as I really enjoy your posts and know that many others do too

For any genuine person, it is hard to join in on MN. It is really hard to to get with the style of posting at times, the humour, the brashness, but it is a bit of a learning process. Well, it was for me anyway. It is great to have a place that is not all fake nicey nicey and fluffiness.

I have seen examples where troll has been called in the midst of a heated debate, the OP or troll stays with it and stands up for themselves and sometimes by the end of the thread, everyone is all (generally speaking) pals again and welcoming the person.

If the style of posting on MN is too harsh, then people offended by it will go elsewhere to a forum that suits them better. I don't see anything wrong with that, to me it's a bit like choosing a pub you like to drink in.

Jumente · 18/06/2009 12:12

See this is when I really wish that other thread hadn't been scratched. It contained a frankly shocking acocunt of exactly what Psycho went through at the hands of the utter lunatic freak who posted on here for a while.

It made several of us who KNOW her drawin our breath and say 'Oh fuck I didn't know it was that bad' but I think it got pulled before too many people had the chance to see it. Lucky if you didn't - it made disturbing reading and I am amazed that she survived it without far more damage to her own state of mind.

It was truly appalling and if you didn't see the full story, I think you can afford to be blase and dismissive of her efforts to protect the rest of us.

It's very painful to see this sort of attack on someone who is already dealing with the aftermath of leading the supportive faction in that particular case.

Please just shut the feck up unless you do know what you are talking about, and leave her alone.

Fimbo · 18/06/2009 12:24

I agree with you Jumente.

Jumente · 18/06/2009 12:31

Thanks Fim, this is such a bitchy thread, so callous and unnecessary...can really do without it tbh.

Fimbo · 18/06/2009 12:32

Yup that about sums it up. One starts and then everyone else just jumps in, regardless of whether they know the full background or not.

mummylin2495 · 18/06/2009 12:34

i agree with jumente, too. How can you citicise someone who was offering support and help, who at that time didnt know that cvq was indeed a troll
