Competitions? Where is there a 'troll hunting competition' please? I haven't seen anything like that.

The threads about the current spate of trolls seem lighthearted because people would rather laugh at the situation than get upset about it. It's a serious thing when it happens to hurt someone who naively believes the story...and naturally any kind hearted person who this has happened to would want to prevent others from being similarly hoodwinked into a vulnerable and very difficult position.

Please can we lay off - I see NO bad intentions from the person you seem to be discussing and indeed nothing not to like. Of course there are some who take the whole thing way too far and behave inappropriately, but these are few and far between and PM isn't one of them IMO. She's lovely

Definitely not smug
Definitely not obsessed

Just trying to do her bit.
Please leave her alone and check your facts before jumping to conclusions about someone very much valued and valuable on here...perhaps you oughtt o direct your scorn toward those without good intentions instead.

As a final thought, I was trying to teach ds about fibbing the other day. It was quite hard to explain to a little boy that a story is Ok, and great fun, but the people hearing it need to know it IS a story and if they don't, it's not fair and makes them mistrust you next time.

So why do people often defend trolling by saying it 'does no harm'? Surely it undermines the trust we put in each other in quite a major way. Fine if we know it's written for a laugh - but not if we don't.

YANBU.

Troll hunters and their competitions are ruining MN for at the moment.

I don't think the person in question is more valued than many others on here tbh, and I would think she is a little obsessed which may be understandable but still extremely annoying.

I agree with Fimbo - report the troll to MN and leave it there

pembslass · 17/06/2009 13:50

yar but people who hit the report button are just as bad. I think as long as nobody is revealing other peoples personal info then why bother?

chevre · 17/06/2009 13:50

i have no idea who this 'person' is i just find it annoying generally and am not getting at any individual

Lizzy - Trolls and "troll hunters" are everywhere online - you won't escape from them.........unless you switch the computer off

chevre · 17/06/2009 13:52

OP posts:
chevre · 17/06/2009 13:52

FAQinglovely · 17/06/2009 13:53

or with "yar" she could be from Southern Africa

FAQinglovely · 17/06/2009 13:53

or Germany.......

Lizzylou · 17/06/2009 13:55

Just hang around Style and Beauty?

Not many on those threads

theycallmelofty · 17/06/2009 13:59

I don't go 'everywhere' online, the only forum I use is MN so would very happy if we could keep them off of these particular boards.

After all we are meant to be a group of a intelligent woman and the competitive shouting of 'troll' is rather uncouth

theycallmelofty · 17/06/2009 14:00

woman women

chevre · 17/06/2009 14:02

i thought i could go onto style and beuaty and start a trolly thread about wearing navy shoes with a black skirt

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 17/06/2009 14:03

What I hate is all the Miss Marple amateur detective sleuthing, where people dredge up someone's posts from 3 weeks ago and say something like 'oh you said you were 4 weeks pregnant 3 weeks ago, but now you say you are 8 weeks pregnan' as if they are undercovering some huge classified secret. I never see the sense of this. There was a lot of it on a thread by Lolianja a couple of weeks (is that her name) who loads of people say was a genuine poster.

If you think someone is a troll, fine, but don't do all the digging around to try and catch them out. They will slip up by themselves in the end (like Lolatheshowgilr)

LizzyLou you are forgetting the TIGHTs troll

Nobody has linked to a competition, am I missing something?

Madigan · 17/06/2009 14:41

Please can someone explain to me what trolls are and why they are a problem?
