Im sori I dnt actually speak like that but being a student and a normal 24yr old who admittitly is addicted to her Phone i do lapse and more often than not revert to forgetting to add a letter to make my words complete. I do not deem this as lazy nor ignorant and i dnt feel that my abbreviations are that different from using DS, DH and FIL on here. I have been told that to use such 'txt spk' or to not write my words completley i will be hated on mumsnet. So am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters?? Think bloody not! Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it

.

Ah , how sweet. To be given a lesson in seeing behind the cover, unmasking the stereotype to see the flower within.

I think you found what you wanted to. Had you REALLY wanted to see how people would be judged you would have posted as Lulu suggested.
I suspect you would have had a very different response. But not the response you were hoping for.

As it is the lesson learnt is go to a site where you are unknown and be rude. People will be rude back.

Gosh that was a life lesson to ponder..

As it goes I had a terrible education and my spelling and grammar are awful. I have never been pulled up on it as I don't deliberately set out to be rude to people.

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:00

I think people are confused regarding the uni
Its the open uni, my over all degree will be hBA (s) Hons in Health and Social care. our degrees are marked as 2:1 a first, 2:2 etc etc .
There are different courses towards the degree.
The course im doing now is understanding health and social care.
We are marked in percentages. 80% + is considered a pass one which is the equivilant to an A grade.
Hope this clarifys.

But TPP - surely if HS is at a university of high repute and getting As for all her essays on Einstein - - then you would expect a sample of four individuals to be ample? Non?!

bleh · 16/06/2009 17:01

I think the 80%+ = publishable thing is for more discursive/humanities types courses. It is conceivable that in other subjects where there are definite right and wrong answers to get 100% (say, in Maths) but not for subjects like Philosophy or Economics.

"But regardless None of you know me yet all felt it was ok to judge me.....mmmmmm"

Suggest you should read the top of the page next time, but here it is anyway.....

Note: Please bear in mind that this topic encourages posters to give their opinions - i.e. they might disagree with you.

I think if you post here AND post something with a view to getting opinons you shouldn't be suprised when you get them!

Isn't the whole point of AIBU to be judged?

Who on Earth makes their first post on AIBU? I am still too terrified to start a thread on here!

pagwatch · 16/06/2009 17:04

cordonbleugh
You keep referring to people judging HS by her writing/typing and that her essay style would prove how bright she is.

I don't think people were judging her by any of that. I think they were judging her because she is rude.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 16/06/2009 17:05

("am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters??")

Thank god you're not studying English. Please, whatever you do, don't become a teacher.

There, see what I did? I judged you on your apparent level of intelligence, your overall manners, and your incredibly rude posts, as well as your devotion to text-speak.

Grow up.

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 17:06

"So where do you fit in to all of this CB?"

Ermm I'm not actually sure! I've already told you all how this came about, I can't be bothered to type it all again.

Long story short, I'm her friend. I introduced her to MN, she chose something extremely controversial as her first post. She got flamed. I have been on here defending her.

And myself for some reason - would you not defend your friends?! Anyway, I don't agree with her, I warned her this would happen and what you would all say.

And yes, someone did apparently get 100% on an essay. It's Open University fgs.

Are you implying that because we're not at a brick/conventional uni, that the degree we are studying for is dumbed down/easier?

Because I, for one, study very hard to get the graqdes I do. admittedly, not in the 100% range though!!

MachuPicchu · 16/06/2009 17:06

Yes that makes sense bleh - I did History of Art (impossible to get 100% I would say)

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:07

I think if you post here AND post something with a view to getting opinons you shouldn't be suprised when you get them! i agree lovebeingamummy! Which was the purpose of the post.
The "But regardless None of you know me yet all felt it was ok to judge me.....mmmmmm"
part was to make the point.

People make judgements on what they know of someone, Hailstorm presented a confrontational moron who champions text speak.......

Singstar · 16/06/2009 17:09

Just read through this and dyslexic or not, Mickey Mouse university or 1st class honours degree from Oxford Hailstorm you are a wally - what a way to introduce yourself !!

Fimbo · 16/06/2009 17:09

No CB, where do you fit in with this social experiment HS has been conducting? Are you part of it?

bleh · 16/06/2009 17:10

For Oxbridge if you get 70%+ for all your exams you get a double-starred first and I know someone who did [basking in someone else's glory emoticon].

I hate to say it, but I would be rather of a university that handed out high marks like confetti, unless their students were particularly brilliant.

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:11

People make judgements on what they know of someone, Hailstorm presented a confrontational moron who champions text speak.......
So posie surely the answer to the question that was the original post would be a simple no i dnt like text speak or yes i do????

OP posts:
claricebeansmum · 16/06/2009 17:12

?
Has HS just forgotten to namechange?

Why is she referring to herself in the 3rd person?

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:12

Singstar Worked though didnt it!

OP posts:
ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 17:13

She is trying to quote.

Fimbo · 16/06/2009 17:13

I think she is quoting PosieParker

SerendipitousHarlot · 16/06/2009 17:14

None of you know me yet all felt it was ok to judge me.....mmmmmm

Nature of the beast, innit.

What did you expect? If you post like a twat, you shall be treated as one. Isn't that one of the Ten Forum Commandments?

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 17:14

"I think they were judging her because she is rude. "

I happen to totally agree!! I think she took the wrong approach completely.

I only reiterated my points on her essay quality, because it was something that other people kept bringing up.

All we have to judge a person by on here, is the quality of their post, the context of it, and the attitude that comes across.

In this case, the attitude was negative unfortunatley.

If you want to know anymore about the course we're doing, ask FAQ, she's on the same one, and is in my tutor group actually!!

posieparker · 16/06/2009 17:14

Actually your rhetorical OP was inviting confrontation. The only question was whether or not we think you're thick...
I reserve judgement.

catinthehat2 · 16/06/2009 17:14

"Thick people have rights, too"

LoveBeingAMummy · 16/06/2009 17:15

Except it wasn't a simple yes or no because of the rest of the info you supplied.

PLus wouldn't have made your point then would it?
