Im sori I dnt actually speak like that but being a student and a normal 24yr old who admittitly is addicted to her Phone i do lapse and more often than not revert to forgetting to add a letter to make my words complete. I do not deem this as lazy nor ignorant and i dnt feel that my abbreviations are that different from using DS, DH and FIL on here. I have been told that to use such 'txt spk' or to not write my words completley i will be hated on mumsnet. So am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters?? Think bloody not! Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it

After reading her OP, i dont believe for one minute that she writes elequent, articulate essays

She can't even type out one paragraph with it looking like a dogs dinner, she didnt try very hard to show she can type normal text in her OP

The thing about communication is that it is more than speaking (or typing in this case!) it is about your responsibility to ensure that you are communicating effectively. You can say "well, I'll speak/type how I like and if you don't understand me, or can't relate to me, that's your problem", but ask yourself - is that communication? I think not.

Also, what is your aim? Is it to say what you want or is it to engage in a 2 way conversation? I think on here it is to chat, to advise and to receive advice. So the responsibility we have is to ensure that we do that in a way that can be understood by all.

Finally, since we all come here to chat, what is the point of communicating in a way that makes others not want to engage with you?

Fimbo · 16/06/2009 16:16

LOL at Tiktok. That about sums it up.

bleh · 16/06/2009 16:17

Please don't. I'm young still (27) but I can't bloody understand txtspk. It's lazy and it RUINS the English language: hang your head in shame.

Maybe I am actually 90 years old?

mylifemykids · 16/06/2009 16:17

I give up reading if I see the poster has used text speak all the way through. For some reason most of the posters who use text speak also seem incapable of using full stops or paragraphs too!

PrammyMammy · 16/06/2009 16:18

I'm 22 and it took me a while to read that. I thought it was people a lot younger than 24 who typed like that. When i receive a text from my 16 year old brother it is similar to your OP. Why not just type the word in full?

HellHathNoFury · 16/06/2009 16:18

interestinly, HailStorm writes a provocative first post then disappears while 'MSN Friend' talks on her behalf.

Haven't we seen this before somewhere?

Is it half term again or something?

HecatesTwopenceworth · 16/06/2009 16:18

should that be makes others want to not engage with you?

HellHathNoFury · 16/06/2009 16:18

*interestingly

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 16:18

Hehehe (thats a laugh! ) Im merely making a point, to Vinagertits, Albert einstain was dyslexic and look what he achieved, dnt judge a book by it cover!! I wouldnt speak any where other than in a txt message as i did on the header, but even on posts some letters end up being dropped. and as for Cordenbleurgh cheers Hunni

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:20

No, I haven't met her, why does that matter?

I did warn her that she'd get flamed!!

And if she can't write eloquent articulate essays, how come she gets marks of 80% and upwards for them??!!

noddyholder · 16/06/2009 16:20

lucia will be along to kick your ass

differentID · 16/06/2009 16:20

Hailstorm, I think you will find that in actual fact Einstein was NOT dyslexic.

Lulumama · 16/06/2009 16:21

surely it is more effort to speak in an odd , abbreviated way than to use the keyboard to type normal words?

i do thikm that making your first post a defensive AIBU one is a good way to get a baptism of fire!

littlelamb · 16/06/2009 16:21

What bloody uni are you going to where they hand out 80% grades on papers?! 70 is a first and my uni were bloody stingy in handing them out I can tell you

bleh · 16/06/2009 16:22

What are you studying Hailstorm, just out of interest?

VinegarTits · 16/06/2009 16:22

OP whats your point?

AE didnt use text speak, him being dyslexic and you using text speak, it has no relevence

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:24

hellhath again, I am her friend on msn, I introduced her to this site, I warned her what would happen if she posted something like this!

And no, it isn't half term, my course started in february and doesn't finish til october.

university course that is.

We both have profiles. Perhaps the reason she posted and was then delayed in coming back was because she was seeing to her child?!

Fimbo · 16/06/2009 16:24

Ah its kind of like everyone on MN, how do you know that she is not some hairy handed trucker?

Someone I would correspond with over MSN would be an acquaintance rather than a close friend. But then I got rid of MSN a couple of years ago.

Lulumama · 16/06/2009 16:24

being dyslexic is a reason for poor spelling, not text speak

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 16:25

Hellhathnofurry - Tut Tut I was tending to my child who wished to go for a nap and MSN friend rocks
Vinegartits - Again with the juding a book by its cover, i may not write correctly i may write how i do because i do, and i may indeed make a dog's dinner of it but i dnt think id be hitting A's at uni if i wasn't capable of writing! Oh n if we are going to start judging books by there covers id say ur name suggests ur a hooker, a dirty one at that!!

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:25

its open university a level one course - K101 in fact.

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 16:25

It's been a while since we had a "I can spk howeva I like n u lot r beeeeaaaches for sayin I can't init" thread.

God I've missed these.

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 16:25

God students arent what they used ot be are they

Fimbo · 16/06/2009 16:26

We can all invent profiles, doesn't mean anything. Mine is Fimble related. i.e. a load of old tosh.
