Im sori I dnt actually speak like that but being a student and a normal 24yr old who admittitly is addicted to her Phone i do lapse and more often than not revert to forgetting to add a letter to make my words complete. I do not deem this as lazy nor ignorant and i dnt feel that my abbreviations are that different from using DS, DH and FIL on here. I have been told that to use such 'txt spk' or to not write my words completley i will be hated on mumsnet. So am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters?? Think bloody not! Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it

Hailstorm are you and CB one and the same?

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 16:33

She sees that it is normal to adjust one's writing style for the readership.

But she doesn't apply that to mumsnet.

Instead we get mis-spelled maunderings on Einstain (sic).....

What could be going on?

Just trying to make a point that people shouldnt judge eachother oh n by the way i'm dyslexic hence the spelling n grammer and no that dont make me thick

posieparker · 16/06/2009 16:34

Well OP I think you're a cu...

missing the n and t to make my point.

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 16:35

Im posie

fly meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

arf

notwavingjustironing · 16/06/2009 16:35

I suggest you might be better placed popping over to Pedants Corner (insert the apostrophe wherever you think it looks best). They are really nice, and probably won't tear you limb from limb - although they might.

But it's worth a go

HellHathNoFury · 16/06/2009 16:35

Posie I think I love you
OK I really am going now

Lulumama · 16/06/2009 16:36

then why not say

I am new to MN, i am dyslexic and find text speak a lot easier to use.. how does text speak fit in on MN?

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:37

look, at the end of the day, myself and hailstorm are open university students, studying at home in our own time, while simultaneously raising a child single handedly.

We are young - and do use text speak in certain situations, for example, texting, and msn converstations.

You have never seen one of her essays, so you cannot comment on the quality of them.

her 80%+ grades are equivalent of an A grade.

I find this site very valuble for advice, very funny, and admire a lot of the posters on here.

Like I said, I explained to hail that she needs to write properly, not use text speak, use paragraphs etc when posting to make it easier for people to read.

BroodyChook · 16/06/2009 16:37

posie - PMSL!!!

tiktok · 16/06/2009 16:37

HailStorm - you need to make it clear when you are quoting someone. You do this by inserting " and " in the right places and by naming the poster. It is quite easy. That way, no one gets more confused than they need to be.

I don't have any views on whether you are thick or not - and wouldn't judge you even if you were. Thick people have rights, too.

In any case, you have told cordonbleurgh you get 80 per cent plus for your essays so you cannot be thick

I'm just judging you on your manners which, frankly, stink

tiktok · 16/06/2009 16:38

LOL @ posie!!!

littlelamb · 16/06/2009 16:39

Balls
I don't know one university (tips hat to PhaseAte) student who refers to having got an A. They just don't exist. If you'd said a first, I might be more inclined to believe you

tiktok · 16/06/2009 16:40

corden, you said "Like I said, I explained to hail that she needs to write properly, not use text speak, use paragraphs etc when posting to make it easier for people to read."

Why did she not take any notice of you?

Does this not piss you off a tad?

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 16:41

god i love a hat tipping moment

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:41

bleh I did warn her!! have said so multiple times in previous posts, if you'd care to read them properly

For the last time, we are not the same person.

We are not trolls.

We are not bored kids.

Check my other threads and postings.

I know with recent events, everybody is on the lookout for trolls, and id feeling defensive, but this is really not the case.

pagwatch · 16/06/2009 16:41

Is this the right thread to practice that clicky finger in front of the face thing that they do on Jerry Springer?

HecatesTwopenceworth · 16/06/2009 16:42

Q - so dyslexia isn't just about being unable to spell, muddling words up etc, it also causes you to write things like don't instead of doesn't?

genuine curiosity btw. I did not know that about dyslexia.

tiktok · 16/06/2009 16:42

Are you pissed off with her, then, cordon?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 16/06/2009 16:43

Oh and MNHQ

Is it possible to actually have a 'Margaret Mountford Emoticon'?

Please?

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:43

A first is an overall degree classification though.
I may be wrong on this however, not having studied at a brick university.

At open uni, we have : pass one, pass two etc

in my eyes, pass one is equivalent to an A, pass two a B etc.

Beetroot · 16/06/2009 16:44

Why on earth do you bother? Don't you have things to do? Surely this is the time to press HIDE

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 16:44

Im studying Health and social care at uni and i have dyslexia. We have recently been studying stereotypes and predjudices.
Its great to gage a reaction and see from what little information you know about somebody (i.e you lot not knowing anything about me) the response that people feel is ok to reply with.
It doesn't matter who you are or where you go stereotypes and mis-judgements on people will always happen.
My original post was a simple question, if you look between the lines. Question wether or not i would be stereotyped or have people's opinion changed from who i really am. Looking between the lines the basic question although unsaid would be 'will i be judged?' The answer so it seems is 'yes i will' How sad for are world today that people are still like this never knowing who the actual poster is.... Sad times.
Thank you all for your comments

Posie, vair vair funny...

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 16:46

not pissed off with her, no.

I gave her advice, she didn't take it, she got flamed. Which is fair enough, as luckily, I do agree with you all wrt text speak.

What I don't like however, is people implying that I'm a troll, or that I'm switching between usernames to wind you all up.

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 16:48

Your dyslexia has nothing to do with this thread.

We were judging discussing your text speak.
