Im sori I dnt actually speak like that but being a student and a normal 24yr old who admittitly is addicted to her Phone i do lapse and more often than not revert to forgetting to add a letter to make my words complete. I do not deem this as lazy nor ignorant and i dnt feel that my abbreviations are that different from using DS, DH and FIL on here. I have been told that to use such 'txt spk' or to not write my words completley i will be hated on mumsnet. So am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters?? Think bloody not! Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it

Hail isn't doing a sociology degree though - she's doing health and social care, she doesn't know how to conduct a professional 'social experiment'.

So no, her education doesn't cover confirmation bias, or confounding factors.

Because that's not what she's studying!! ffs

donnie · 16/06/2009 18:13

Serendipitous - the sad thing is that you think you are joking! there are plenty of parents who are as dimwitted as your post suggests ( I speak as a member of the teaching fraternity).

Another story perhaps.

Thunderduck · 16/06/2009 18:14

Cordon, perhaps you could allow Hailstorm to defend herself? She's 24, if she can dish it out then she ought to be able to take it. She shouldn't require a backup.

MachuPicchu · 16/06/2009 18:15

Cordonbleugh I don't find it hard to believe at all that OU students would get high marks. I actually said that I was impressed, because based on my history of art degree it would be very tough to get above 75% on an essay, let alone 100% (as others have pointed out). I also studied modern languages as additional modules, where it was easier to get high percentages in assignments because things are more clearly right/wrong. It's nothing to do with courses being easier/harder, just different subjects. That's all.

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 18:15

fair point BOF, we're on the same page now!

Completely agree that an OU degree is not the same as one from a top oxbridge university.

FAQ you got me!

donnie please tell me you're joking

FAQinglovely · 16/06/2009 18:16

right ok - haven't read the whole thread (and don't have time). However I do know cordonbleugh (sp?) and she's real (in the flesh - and she's a smoker ). I have no reason not to believe what she's said about the OP is true.

FAQinglovely · 16/06/2009 18:18

only caught the drift of the end of this thread - Level 1 courses aren't judged at the same level as Level 2/3 courses. And as the course goes on (even with Level 1) the marking standards do get harder

(and no I don't get good marks for my essays ).

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 18:18

Christ on a bike. We have have someone backing up someone who is backing up someone else !

[head explodes]

PhaseAte · 16/06/2009 18:18

oh god I am hiding this through utter DULLNESS

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 18:19

we have have ?!

Sorry, I meant "we NOW have...."

FAQinglovely · 16/06/2009 18:20

no I'm not backing up the OP = I hate text speak, drives me mad on here and on the FirstClass forums

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 18:20

"It's nothing to do with courses being easier/harder, just different subjects. That's all. "

Thankyou, sorry for any misunderstanding.

"She shouldn't require a backup" no, she probably doesn't, but I'm her friend, I like to stick up for my mates. Not saying that you don't obviously.

I've already said that I disagree with her attitude on here, she knows it.

VinegarTits · 16/06/2009 18:21

Hail i didnt judge you or catagorise you, you came across as a bit thick, and still do, thats an observation not a sterotype dear

Stayingsunnygirl · 16/06/2009 18:23

I am just wondering too, HailStorm - just wondering why you thought it was a good idea to come somewhere new and be rude. Your approach to getting to know us and letting us get to know you seemed crass and juvenile to me.

This is not the first internet forum that I have joined, and each time, I am myself - I am friendly and polite and make a genuine attempt to get to know people. This has always worked well for me, and I have made a lot of friends, both online and in real life.

Lulumama · 16/06/2009 18:23

is it a social experiment? a ruse to out us all as judgey narrow minded people?

or just someone new being confrontational?

Qally · 16/06/2009 18:24

Ah, okay. Someone else must have mentioned that - didn't read the whole thread, I'm afraid you're a bit dull for that. ;)

psychomum5 · 16/06/2009 18:24

I am sure I am repeating something that someone else has already said but

TXT SPK IS FOR TEXTING!!! (hence why it is called txt spk......kind of a no-brainer really isn;t it)

we like to be able to actually read other poeples posts and points of view, we cannot (nor even want to) read yours, nor want to speak to you is it happens a lot.

some slip ups, yes, all, NO!.

Quattrocento · 16/06/2009 18:25

Did anyone get as far as the last sentence of the OP?

"Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it ."

which made me laugh anyway

Poppity · 16/06/2009 18:26

This post

Im studying Health and social care at uni and i have dyslexia. We have recently been studying stereotypes and predjudices.
Its great to gage a reaction and see from what little information you know about somebody (i.e you lot not knowing anything about me) the response that people feel is ok to reply with.
It doesn't matter who you are or where you go stereotypes and mis-judgements on people will always happen.
My original post was a simple question, if you look between the lines. Question wether or not i would be stereotyped or have people's opinion changed from who i really am. Looking between the lines the basic question although unsaid would be 'will i be judged?' The answer so it seems is 'yes i will' How sad for are world today that people are still like this never knowing who the actual poster is.... Sad times.
Thank you all for your comments

suggests you are conducting a social experiment, although you have not actually stated those words. Looking between the lines, as you wished people to do, you understand.

and roflol at this in your profile

'I like to think that my intellect will outwit the meek'

or is that another test for us simple full word users?

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 18:27

just someone new being confrontational Lulu!

Which was a very bad idea IMO

Quattrocento · 16/06/2009 18:27

Having the whole thread, I've now come to the conclusion that Hailstorm is pulling our legs. No-one could be that dim. It's you Rhubarb, isn't it?

BitOfFun · 16/06/2009 18:27

Yes, Hail left the "nt" off as a test apparently. Then Posie said she thought she was a cu < snort >

Lulumama · 16/06/2009 18:29

ok, thanks for clarifying !!
