To think MNet has really changed in the past few years...?

and not in a good way. It's become an awful place, really. I'm an ancient m'netter of circa 5 years and remember the days of pirate sex, fighting with other parenting forums etc and Cod's dyslexic ramblings. It was fun back then. Now it's a bitchfest.

people have been saying this for years!

Actually, it has changed.

More and nastier trolls.
People spinning bollocks to try to get ££££ or attention from kind mners.
lots more text speak.
censorship... mn used to be a place where you could debate and argue and if you didn't like someone else's opinion, argue your pov or lump it! Now it's all how very dare you and message deleted by mumsnet.
lots of threads saying I hate you all, or this place is shit. Now as far as I know, nobody is posting on MN with a gun at their head.
But then there's mners rushing to help genuine people.
The christmas thing.

So I guess there's good and bad and you have to decide if you like it enough to hang around. nobody cares if you do or don't tbh. MN is so huge that none of us would be missed if we buggered off! Point is, it's supposed to be fun. If it's not fun for you - leave and find somewhere that is. There's no point you hanging around somewhere that you're not enjoying, is there?

chatta · 13/06/2009 21:09

For od read cod.
Dumbledore you are positively intelligentsia next to the current srop.A year ago was prime MN full of lovely smart women helping each other out.I don't know what happened but I think some of the new lot shop at Iceland

FlappyTheBat · 13/06/2009 21:10

Been here for about 5 years, RL doesn't stay the same so why do people expect internet forums to stay the same?

It is different now, but were the good old days actually all that good? As a new member, I gave up posting for quite a while as I was ignored whenever I tried to join in conversations.

It was more cliquey then but the word "hun" was hardly used, so maybe it was better

scottishmummy · 13/06/2009 21:10

i think many MN have PhD in i-told-you-so (specialism and oh another thing)

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/06/2009 21:11

LOL of course I am intelligentsia! Just because I don't happen to have the money to spend it in Waitrose and Boden, doesn't mean I don't have a MENSA IQ!

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:13

oh yes i love iceland. first shop to make all of their own brand frozen veg organic, and their eggs non dyed and non battery, as it happens. (although the veg thing didn't work out cos no one bought it despite the price remaining the same [grin).

chatta · 13/06/2009 21:16

It has nothing to do with cash.I know life moves on but in that way I expect progression not a load of 'wifeys' dumbledore I 'know' you and your finances and preferred shopping habits are irrelevant because you are smart! As for the newby daily mail brigade NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chegirl · 13/06/2009 21:16

Aitch I KNOW! how annoying was that? Went to stock up on organic frozen veg and it was all gone. I was very .

Nowt wrong with Iceland (apart from Kerry Katona)

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/06/2009 21:23

Wish I "knew" who you are chatta. It is like talking to someone wearing a mask.

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:23

lol chatta, you're on a roll. (not a sausage one, obv).

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:24

a gimp mask.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 13/06/2009 21:29

In the year and a half I have been on here I have had my hand held through the pregnancy by other women who had been through mc, had cheers for healthy scans, had practical support to deal with my 3rd degree tear, had masses and masses of support with my BF issues, discussed problems in my marriage and received sensible, caring advice, and posted queries on benefits, immigration issues, tax, family dynamics, movies, and god knows what else, and people have always responded with inrtelligence, humour and wisdom. Nobody has ever been rude, bitchy, cliquey, disrespectful or unfriendly. It is a fantastic place. Perhaps the OP is a bit jaded and should go and join a new forum for a fresh perspective.

chatta · 13/06/2009 21:29

ZORRO! This site got me through some serious times. No sausage roll philosophising just good old advice with a humourous twist. You all rock and you know who you are.But seriously a seperate forum is unneccesary don't give them that power if we are smart enough and keep the brain flag flying they will all shrivel and head off to msn in a puff of smoke

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:33

have you been away long, chatta? say... before christmas?

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/06/2009 21:34

I don't even have many people to chat to on msn. I wonder where I go wrong?

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/06/2009 21:35

'Course she has Aitch. She always appears on the right threads and says the expected thing.

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:44

i don't even have msn. christ if i had anything more than mn i'd never get anything done.

2shoes · 13/06/2009 21:49

of course mn has changed.
everything changes, in someways mn is better(except for the bitchy attention seeker or 2) but things have to change, how boring would it all be otherwise

scottishmummy · 13/06/2009 21:52

people come
people go
no biggie

pickyvic · 13/06/2009 21:55

ive just discovered MN after being on another forum for quite a while where disagreements get squished very quickly and everyone "hugs hun"..(pass the sick bucket!)...think i might fit in here! ill be lurking about in the special needs section more often than not mind you.(ive a son with autism)..you lot dont pull any punches do you! not a bad thing tho imo.

AitchTwoOh · 13/06/2009 21:57

welcome, vic.

pickyvic · 13/06/2009 21:58
