Good post Chegirl, I couldn't agree more. My children are mixed race too and I feel uneasy about freedom of speech for people who could hate them for no reason than their brown skin.

MichKit · 27/05/2009 20:26

'To whoever is stupid enough to think that the BNP are not racist, do they not know that the BNP constitution specifically seeks to "stem the tide of NON_WHITE immigration", NOT immigration as a whole.'

So, if these goons had their way, I would be deported and my husband would be allowed to stay. WOnder where they'd slot the British mixed race DD

They make me sooooo angry!!!

MichKit · 27/05/2009 20:27

Chegirl... I relate!! Grrr!!

Freedom of speech is a tough one, because how do you decide who gets it and who doesn't, and where do you draw lines?
Though the BNP and their ilk make me sick to my stomach, I suppose I have to support their freedom to speak, but I think its not just my right but my duty to shout louder than them to try and drown them out!
And I certainly will never apologise for calling any BNP voter at best a mindless moron who shames those who fought for the vote, and at worst the scum of the earth.

Exactly! Let them have freedom of speech but let them tell the truth. Stop the lies and the cover ups. Let them tell it like it is. If they are so proud of theirselves why wont they admit to being what they really are?

I mean apart from wankers.

JoPie · 27/05/2009 23:37

Good point Frosty, we need people to see that they havn't changed, and to see past their veneer of new found respectibility.
I remember the BNP of old, when they went for a seat in my home town I joined the anti-nazi league to campaign against them. I've seen them up close and personal and they are far from harmless. I still have a scar to prove it.

We have to allow freedom of speech however unpleasant we may consider those ideas to be, unless of course the individual is actually inciting racial hatred. What needs to be done is to apply cool, rational, logic that shows up such people for the extremists that they are. Resorting to abuse and uncontrolled anger simply brings us down to their level.

If we ban such groups as the BNP they won't go away they will merely go "underground" where they will fester like some odious social infection. Far better to keep them above ground where we can see what they are up to.

noordinarymum · 27/05/2009 23:59

This thread is a very interesting read, also so informative. I am not very clued up when it comes to politics

I kind of always knew (or thought that BNP were nazis in disguise) but since reading this i have learnt so much. Sorry if i make myself sound dim, i'm not but i just get all confused when it comes to politics!!!

I cannot believe luvones values and opinions i find it so shocking that above all she seemed to carry on about money (her husbands) her private education and how well off in general she is......What a nice country we would live in if it was full of luvones 'kind'!!

MIFLAW · 28/05/2009 10:21

BNP voters are vermin, private education or not.

Abraid - "The trouble is it tends to do this through disease, starvation and war." This is true in times and in countries where technology does not keep pace with population. The fact that in the UK it has increased twelvefold in 500 years without widespread famine and in spite of two major world wars shows that, if the infrastructure adapts successfully - which is itself a product of wealth - then the "overcrowding" myth has much more to do with personal comfort and preference than need. Personal comfort is very important, of course - but it is the basis of intelligent choice, not panicky, "need"-based decisions.

AliGrylls · 28/05/2009 10:46

I find the BNP really scary (they used to just make me angry but since I married a Jewish man I can't help finding them intimidating as a party) and tbh I would really like it if they had no freedom of speech - freedom of speech is after all what brought Hitler into power. Apparently in the early years some Jewish people voted for the NAZIs thinking that they were a better option to what was available and look what happened there.

There are far too many similarities between the BNP and the Nazis. If BNP ever started to get any kind of respect at all I would leave the country with my husband and child (who is still unborn).

daftpunk · 28/05/2009 10:59

agree lucia39....not sure why people are so worried about them...what percentage of the vote to they get? ... true they have more support than when they were the NF..but will never be a real political threat.

JoPie · 28/05/2009 11:08

Are you serious? Why are people worried that a racist nazi inspired political party are growing all the time and gaining votes and seats and a facade of respectibility?
Why are people worried that racist homophobic sexist facist thugs are on the TV in suits talking politics?

One vote for the BNP is aborrent. The thousands they get is a national disgrace which shames us all.

daftpunk · 28/05/2009 11:15

ok jopie..... let me tell you something...you are sitting next to homophobic racists on the bus, you are being served by them in shops.....they exist.

daftpunk · 28/05/2009 11:15

the NF/BNP didn't invent them.

JoPie · 28/05/2009 11:25

Whats your point? Of course they exist, but the difference with the BNP is that they are on the TV and getting seats on the councils.
Slightly more dangerous than serving in a shop, don't you think?

Of course the BNP didn't invent them, but they encourage and legitimise such opinion. Which, in case my point is too subtle, is not a good thing.

daftpunk · 28/05/2009 11:40

my point is...parties like the BNP will always exist.....look at france.. le pen almost became presidant!...... we have to keep them in the open, we have to know what they're doing...only then can people make up their minds...ban them and they just go underground, and (imo)..become more dangerous

MIFLAW · 28/05/2009 11:53

Talking of keeping things in the open, are you the same daftpunk who was roundly criticised as a racist for thinking that it was acceptable to use the word "Paki"?

daftpunk · 28/05/2009 11:57

i thought the prince harry story was totally blown out of proportion......will that answer do you?...

MIFLAW · 28/05/2009 11:58

Absolutely - it's all coming back to me now.

JoPie · 28/05/2009 12:09
Hmm
daftpunk · 28/05/2009 12:13

what's that face for?

JoPie · 28/05/2009 12:24

I also remember several of your previous remarks on threads, but will not comment on them here, as per the (recently learned) etiquette.
