to think Mumset is a whole lot better post-Mouldiegate?

Genuine observation here, not trying to stir anything. It just seems a lot less cliquey and bum-licky. My replies are recognised and appreciated. I hope newbies feel welcomed and that there isn't some barrier that you have to cross in order to become 'popular'.

Well?

Papa?

piscesmoon · 21/05/2009 15:15

I can't say that it has made any difference-I never understood what it was all about anyway.

ClaphamOmnibus · 21/05/2009 15:15

Nicole?

AitchTwoOh · 21/05/2009 15:16

lol

blu, you're right. this is just this is just as bad as mn ain't what it used to be.

and my 'twas ever thus' refers to the life cycle of a forum, which this whole thing adheres to to a completely embarrassing degree. i'll see if i can find a link.

CouldYouWouldYouWithaGoat · 21/05/2009 15:16

where are they?

ComeOVeneer · 21/05/2009 15:17

Blimey talk about deja vu!

AitchTwoOh · 21/05/2009 15:18

'here come the moldies'

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/05/2009 15:19

No I don't agree it is overall better. There are pros and cons as I see it.

The main pro is the lack of "I've been here forever and ever and who are you to disagree with me?" sentiment, which was so prevalent before, even among some posters who had not been here as long as others.

And I agree that I did hate the way certain posters would pile in and come to the aid of other posters, seemingly regardless of whatever topic or opinion was being discussed.

The main con though is that many of those self-same posters would pile in to comment knowledgeably and wittily, and, on the occasions when they chatted to me, it could be very agreeable. That doesn't happen as often now.

Plus, I felt people knew me then, but most don't know me now. That's fine - nice to meet new people and all that - but it is also nice to feel known.

So all in all, no Mumsnet is not a whole lot better, just better in parts and definitely worse in others.

Blu · 21/05/2009 15:20

OTW

ComeOVeneer · 21/05/2009 15:21

Personally I think far to many people on here take this place far to seriously at times and think way too much about it.

ComeOVeneer · 21/05/2009 15:21

OTW?

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/05/2009 15:26

But yet again - I have to say it - this thread has more than the usual proportion of Moldies posting on it.

Tortington · 21/05/2009 15:27

I think the whole thing is ridiculously sad.

I don't think MN is better or worse. I used to recognise a whle lot more people, but it turns out that they weren't worth recognising in the first place (for the most part.)

recently i have come to notice new names. No new adversaries though, which made things firey in the old days. kinda miss that. I thought it was all in context. the sparring. But misjudged that too.

mouldiegate in itself is a sad thing.

but MN isn't. it wasn't and it will continue as ever.

hell, i remember when the majority of those who make up the mouldie wave - i like to think of them as the nouveau riche - as opposed to the old money which was the original wave.

still really saddened at the actions of some few members whom i valued

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/05/2009 15:27

Sorry, meant to say "Moldies past and present" as I always get jumped on by someone saying to me "I only posted on that other site twice, I am not a Moldie".

Yeah, ok.

Blu · 21/05/2009 15:31

DDG - possibly beause it has 'mouldies' in the title, so you think?

CouldYouWouldYouWithaGoat · 21/05/2009 15:31

how on earth do you know who is a mouldie and who isn't? why do you care?

OlympedeGouges · 21/05/2009 15:32

It is much bigger. And that has its pitfalls. But that is nothing to do with being post Mouldie, that is just the way more publicity for the site has attracted loads more people. Of course it is easier to get lost nowadays. But no I do miss quite a few old posters, have no idea if they are on Mouldie or just in RL. Marina especially.

RedCharityBonney · 21/05/2009 15:32

Nice to know what it was about now - I wasn't sure before. Interesting thread and good natured too, which is very cool since MG seems to be a sensitive subject.

I like it here. It's good. I'm a refugee from Another Place and I can tell you that better or worse in itself, it's always the absolute dog's in comparison with how it COULD be.

So be grateful.

pingping · 21/05/2009 15:33

I heart MN

regardless who is here.... Even though I don't get on it as much I do still reconise some names etc

tigana · 21/05/2009 15:34

Right
I missed moldiegate - but I think I get the gist.
I was around before it ...and have come back since (obviously!)

MN is different.
BUT I think that is function of size rather than particular members.
I have recognised posting style of several posters and though "oh they must have name changed" but known been certain who they 'used to be' (apart, I think, from cod..although..she has improved her typo-spotting )

I think there is less of feel of there being a 'popular' group. To whom people, for whatever reason, felt they should/had to defer. Which is good.
I also fear that there is less pithyness at times. Although it has made me splutter coffee on my keyboard recently!
It seems friendlier, but at times a little blander.
Still a nest of vipers with big hearts/sharp wits

DH has noted I have become 'addicted' again quite quickly!

JustineMumsnet · 21/05/2009 15:34

Busted?

tigana · 21/05/2009 15:37

NOT been certain who they 'used to be'

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/05/2009 15:38

Oh yes blu, I am aware of why. Probably also the reason why I am on this thread, and Rhubarb, Custardo, NorthernLurker and various others.

I meant though that the response on this thread might not be representative of general opinion because those contributing are not exactly neutral observers.

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/05/2009 15:39

Why do you care how I know who is a moldie and who is not?!

tigana · 21/05/2009 15:39

who busted what?
when?
[eh?]
