to think Mumset is a whole lot better post-Mouldiegate?

Genuine observation here, not trying to stir anything. It just seems a lot less cliquey and bum-licky. My replies are recognised and appreciated. I hope newbies feel welcomed and that there isn't some barrier that you have to cross in order to become 'popular'.

Well?

OP posts:
competitivenature · 21/05/2009 13:49

This is a pointless thread, since experience shows that anyone who disagrees with the OP will be leapt on with screams of "Moldie!" and metaphorically burnt on a pyre of SWMNBM's books.

Not trying to stir, course not love

Baisey · 21/05/2009 13:49

Im a newbie, ive only been here a few weeks.
What was mouldigate?
[intrigued emoticon]

knotswapper · 21/05/2009 13:50

It's different. There are no fun threads started any more, so some of the humour and sense of belonging has gone.

I'm sad to see some of the oldies go for that reason, but agree that mumsnet is now a bit of a phoenix rising from the ashes after a shaky few months.

It's time for a new generation, and that was always going to happen - the old mums have moved on and it's time for the new ones.

Baisey · 21/05/2009 13:50

And may I add its not bum-licky, but its very bumsex-y.

daftpunk · 21/05/2009 13:51

wannabe....calm down.....perfectly ok thread....can't people talk about the history of mumsnet?

i agree it isn't as funny. and people seem less likely to think before they post.

ninah · 21/05/2009 13:52

well I am still as addicted
but I miss the oldies

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 13:52

Also it'll be interesting whether the new posters create a sense of what MN is all about, I think. All that collective identity around mooncups, or Greggs sausage rolls or whatever are from another age.

I wonder what MN will become about now? I hope it's not bumsex.

I didn't find MN cliquey when I joined it 2 years ago. I don't find the school gates cliquey either mind.

Rhubarb · 21/05/2009 13:53

And I think you'll find wannabe, that some of those people who have left Mumsnet were responsible for some pretty vile personal attacks themselves.

But hey ho, it's all in the past. Some have left Mumsnet, others have namechanged, that site is still out there and they are very welcome to it. Newbies always manage to breathe fresh air into things and there are some newbies who are just as witty/clever/interesting etc. As for the sex threads, well I don't see that anything has changed there. There have always been some pretty graphic sex threads and there have always been complaints about them. I don't click on them.

But it's a bit of a circle. Pretty soon the hierarchy will start again, people will moan about Mumsnet not being the same, cliquey groups will be formed and it will all kick off again.

ClaphamOmnibus · 21/05/2009 13:53

It isn't true that there are no fun threads anymore. There are a lot.I honestly can't remember anything from the old posters that is lacking now. In fact I can't remember anything much about them.

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 13:54

Get Orf, your name always made me smile!

Moldies stands for MN Oldies, a breakaway group that you can only be invited to and that is inaccessible to the public.
There was some controversy about who had been invited and it was disclosed that the Moldie members had been discussing MN posters and whether or not they were worthy of membership to this exclusive club.
Understandably some of the MN posters who had either been here a long time or who counted Moldies as friends felt betrayed and so it went on.
Since then Moldies have been accused of discussing MN threads and raiding the threads like a bunch of little hooligans. Mners have been accused of hating the moldies and making them feel unwelcome here
There we are, as neutral as I can manage

pagwatch · 21/05/2009 13:54

Personally I think Mumsnet has been much much better since I joined.
Far more intelligent, stylish and warm.
It was shit before.

southeastastra · 21/05/2009 13:55

there aren't as many funny/intereting threads

wannaBe · 21/05/2009 13:55

because dp, moldies was a very emotive topic. There were threads and threads and threads about it and bitterness and upset and, iirc, even artacles about it in the press.

So a thread that makes reference to moldies is clearly designed to provoke a response, and it is inevitable that the whole thread is not going to say "oh yes, yanbu, it's fabulous here now without x and y and z who left," so invariably it will degenerate.

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 13:55

I have read some hilarious threads on here recently
Less personal attacks if anything

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 13:55

There's a new hierarchy Rhubarb. It's inevitable. They are called People Who Post A Lot.

same as before really

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 13:56

lol @ pagwatch

wolfnipplechips · 21/05/2009 13:58

I have to admit to being completly bored by bum sex and other gratuitous type threads.

I don't mind if someone has a dilemma, but my dh is on his way home and would like to, insert(wrong word) word threads i find a bit annoying. Before you say steer clear, the clue isn't always in the title. There seems to be quite a few these days.

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 13:58

Lol pagwatch

Lizzylou · 21/05/2009 13:59

I like MN now, I liked MN before.
There is a different feel to the place though, no better, no worse imo.
Most of the Moldies are still posting under different names which I do like as it gives my grey matter a bit of an exercise trying to work out who they are.
I always spot Cod though

Gawd, I am bland.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/05/2009 14:00

Thanks very much for that MrsRuffalo!

Tbh I never found it cliquey anyway, but that may be because I have the sensitivity of a rhino.

I do miss some posters but it doesn't break my heart, frankly.

Ewe · 21/05/2009 14:01

I saw this thread title and just thought WHY!?

Nobody who is here is going to think it's shit are they? Otherwise they wouldn't be here. What a pointless thread.

mascaraohara · 21/05/2009 14:01

It's different - I wouldn't say better or worse. I post a lot less and I recognise a lot less people but I'm here less and I can't keep up with new posters/name changers etc

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/05/2009 14:02

There aren't as many Mumsnet's Not As Good As It Used To Be threads, thank goodness.
