to think Mumset is a whole lot better post-Mouldiegate?

Genuine observation here, not trying to stir anything. It just seems a lot less cliquey and bum-licky. My replies are recognised and appreciated. I hope newbies feel welcomed and that there isn't some barrier that you have to cross in order to become 'popular'.

Well?

Agree that there is not so much of the people tripping over eachother to get highest up cod and co's arse.

People seem t be more equal. Of course the moldsters are still around but as most haven't spotted them, including me, tis better .

MollieO · 21/05/2009 14:04

Every thread I start is very interesting [self important emoticon]

I hated the cliqueness. We had similar on another forum that regularly got an influx of new people when related articles were published. Lots of oldies wittering on about it not being the same as in their day. As an oldie on that forum I used to like reading newbie's posts as well as the oldies.

What seems to have gone since 'Mouldies' is the (mother) superior attitude of some Mnetters. That for me is a good thing.

ClaphamOmnibus · 21/05/2009 14:04

To those who say that it is not as much fun as it used to be, you do know, don't you, that you just get jaded with it the longer you are here?

You see more and more threads that have been 'done before'; you get irritated by the evolution of conventions and in-jokes, by new posters not doing things the way they were.

That jadedness was what the old guard felt, and they rather arrogantly ascribed it to mumnset getting worse. In fact, they were just satiated and superceded. That will happen again with new generations, who will be equally tempted towards an elitist 'not what it was' response. Hopefully the experience of mouldiegate will teach them to reflect a little before pronouncing themselves superior to the new young posters.

knotswapper · 21/05/2009 14:05

I meant 'quirky' threads. Not so much threads that make you LOL, there have been loads of those. But there always used to be something quirky and peculiarly mumsnet.

But, I think after mouldiegate and all the upset things are settling down again with a new set of mumsnetters and things will get back to normal, but maybe a 'different' normal.

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 14:05

I know wht you mean Orf- I miss Cappuccino, I thought she was hilarious, but there have been a few threads lately that I thought were as funny as anything I have read on here

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 14:05

I don't know whther Capp is a moldie or not btw

daftpunk · 21/05/2009 14:05

lol poopscoop...that was the worst part...can't say i've ever spotted cod on here since she left.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/05/2009 14:06

ClaphamOmnibus I think there is a lot in what you say.

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 14:06

I've never understood this getting up people's arse talk.

grumblinalong · 21/05/2009 14:06

Doesn't seem as sharp and witty as it used to be - I used to mainly lurk because I couldn't muster up 'clever' enough posts (snort).

I do post more frequently now because I don't feel like an ex journo cum yummy mummy is going to shoot me down with an acerbic one liner anymore.

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing tbh

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2009 14:07

Yes, good post Clapham

southeastastra · 21/05/2009 14:07

agree with knots, there were more quirky threads. don't believe the longer you stay the more jaded bit

ClaphamOmnibus · 21/05/2009 14:07

You aren't looking on the right threads grumblin. There is plenty of wit and there are plenty of journos.

MollieO · 21/05/2009 14:08

[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=am_i_being_unreasonable&threadid=625390-to-call-the-police-on-m y-nanny#12738258 This]] is still my all time favourite thread.

i was talking to someone the other week...there was a moldie air about her...but i liked her.

MollieO · 21/05/2009 14:08

or rather this properly linked

Saltire · 21/05/2009 14:09

I think it's better but I wil say this, I think there are far more people ready to take offence at the slightest little thing, and that can sometimes start the name calling. and some (I said some, I don't mean all) of those who take offence easily are younger posters.

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 14:10

I think I agree with knotswrapper. It'll be a different normal. Which is why I'm interested to know what the collective culture will be - it won't be greggs or fruitshoots or mooncups, that's the old collective culture, I think anyway.

Lizzylou · 21/05/2009 14:10

Totally agree Claphamomnibus.

Also, agree with grumblinalong, I don't lurk or hover over the posting button as much anymore, I did find some posters intimidating tbh

Notalone · 21/05/2009 14:10

I liked it then and I like it now. Am I allowed to ask what happenned to a particular poster or is that a faux pas? I never knew Thomcat but her posts always made me laugh - especially the talking in a funny voice at a party and the waddling down to the tube station to catch her DH when her waters broke. Does anyone know if she is still here?

misdee · 21/05/2009 14:11

i like it now, i liked it then.

i like the fact that i am back to not being as well known, and people dont know about 2005-07 peter stuff. but i like knowing that people do know iyswim.

things change

people change

Mintyy · 21/05/2009 14:12

I think you are absolutely right Omnibus.

Trouble is, oldies like me who are tiring of Mumsnet don't know where else to go . Moldies was the result of a few jaded posters trying to fill a void but misjudging rather badly in the way they set up and accidentally leaked the existence of their forum. Imo.

But I can't say I think its better now because I was never aerated or offended by the quichiness of the site as it was before.

EachPeachPearMum · 21/05/2009 14:22

Thomcat came back with a different name for a little while I think... but I haven't seen her for a little while...

ComeOVeneer · 21/05/2009 14:34

"Hopefully the experience of mouldiegate will teach them to reflect a little before pronouncing themselves superior to the new young posters."

I guess I missed it when anybody announced themselves as superior!
