Genuine observation here, not trying to stir anything. It just seems a lot less cliquey and bum-licky. My replies are recognised and appreciated. I hope newbies feel welcomed and that there isn't some barrier that you have to cross in order to become 'popular'.

Well?

OP posts:

gglimpopo is right. It has definitely dropped a level. The sex threads aren't funny or thought provoking as there is no real intelligence behind them. There are many smart funny women here but they are being buried under the masses of tabloid-esque tittle tattle.I hate the idea that this was somehow inevitable once there was a mass exodus but it appears to be true. Daftpunk no need to posh me up love I am positively regal in my other life.

badapple · 22/05/2009 10:29

There was nastiness before too!

badapple · 22/05/2009 10:31

Isn't it pure snobbery to moan about the new, mass-appeal mumsnet having lots of tabloidy threads? It is here for everyone and you need to find your way through to the bit you like. It isn't hard.

meh, badapple, the bottom line for me is that i don't like coming to mn as much as i used to now that it's got so big and impersonal, and i find i'm sticking to the running threads and giving actual advice rahter than having a total laugh of the sort that woudl make you type faster cos you wanted to be the one who got the line in there first.

so in answer to the OP's question i say no, with sadness. and i do think that whatever the OP says, this was only ever an exercise in stirring.

can someone explain what happened to twinnie please, just briefly and obviously not if it would embarrass her if she's reading?

BitOfFun · 22/05/2009 10:36

< wonders if there's a course to go on with Shineon and Daftpunk to become an intello >

VinegarTits · 22/05/2009 10:36

I agree with the OP, i for one was glad to see the back of some of the people that left

Mners are much nicer to each other these days. even me

"I hate the idea that this was somehow inevitable once there was a mass exodus but it appears to be true"

It was nothing to do with the mass exodus and everything to do with the successful growth of MN which was one of the causes of the exodus. The fact that a few dozen posters left has had NO impact on the site as a whole - although of course it has an impact for their own circle. It amazes me how important to MN some of them thought they were. They were important to themselves and to their friendship group. That s all.

BitOfFun · 22/05/2009 10:37

Ah Vinegar! < sigh of relief at no need to be intello for now at least >

Aitch, I agree: I like mn much less now too. I just don't like people confusing 'liking it less' with it being worse. You lose friends on a place and it starts to seem hollow and sad. A place that you knew evolves, and that seems sad. But it isn't worse.

AitchTwoOh · 22/05/2009 10:40

"It amazes me how important to MN some of them thought they were. They were important to themselves and to their friendship group. That s all. "

well yes, but i don't honestly think there were more than a few people who thougth they were that important tbh. it's not really fair to tar all moldies with that brush. a lot of them were just hankering after a water-cooler moment, it seemed to me.

chatta · 22/05/2009 10:40

A few dozen and little impact? If you keep repeating it it starts to sound plausible

Aitch -- threadie namechanged, and then deregged to force herself to stop wasting time. Then she reregged to pick over the moldiegate scabs. Now she is de-regging again. She would love to have aitch's email address if any mutual friends could supply it, and if aitch wanted to give it.

badapple · 22/05/2009 10:43

And yes, of course most moldies weren't in the least bad/elitist/anything.

AitchTwoOh · 22/05/2009 10:43

habit, i think, and i do like the bits that i like. and when i can find the funny threads of course. i object to the idea that i must LOVE every element of MN to post here.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 22/05/2009 10:43

I would love to know what the actual numbers are. How many people are on Moldies? Tens? Hundreds? How many people left MN altogether and now only post there? 5? 25?

did she indeed, badapple? she should stay now that she has such a cracking name imo. onebat has my email, i wonder if she'd be able to get a message to threadie?

VinegarTits · 22/05/2009 10:45

Personally i dont come here to get into intense debates about politics or religon, and i dont have to prove i am 'intello' or smart and witty, i already know i am

chatta, people leave m,n all the time. A blip when a few left at once for a new site has had very little impact on mn. Are you one of the minority of moldies who think you mattered much to people other than your own friendship group?

badapple · 22/05/2009 10:47

Aitch Thanks.
