Thinking these policies might work for an MEP? (albeit maybe not Katie Hopkins)

Fledge · 13/05/2009 13:35

Katie Hopkins' character has been discussed to death. Let's talk policies for mumsnet.

Let's pretend it could be Ruth Badger standing as an MEP, or Jordan, or a WAG, or Cameron from Big Brother, or Will Young, Alexandra Burke (X Factor), or Jade (Eurovision).... you get the point.

So here are the policies... and remember Tony Blair's Pledge card was even shorter when you read them...

Britain and Europe ? Involved but not dissolved

Voting numbers fell below 50% in the last European elections in 2004 - way below the number voting in reality TV shows. ???? is taking an independent stand for integrity, putting real people at the heart of democracy.

INTEGRITY
A straight talker taking an independent stand for Integrity

A stand for open and honest democracy where everyday people make the decisions based on common sense.

ARMED FORCES

An ex-army woman speaking up for armed forces and their families

A stand for a higher standard of life on base, in theatre and at home.

SMALL BUSINESS

A small business owner supporting job creators and income providers

A stand for building a prosperous economy from the bottom up.

THE ROCK
A west country woman wanting to give a real voice to Gibraltar.

?The people here are straight talkers. Politicians never answer the question, I am standing as someone who is prepared to tell it like it is.?

WORKING MOTHERS

A mother of three small children championing
women at work [Ed. substitute facts as necessary - mother/aunt/uncle/cousin/godparent/brother/sister]

A stand to support womens ambitions in business.

FARMERS AND FISHERMEN

A daughter of a farming family respecting small producers

A stand for British farmer?s rights to a sustainable income, and our fishermen?s rights to fish British waters first.

BY WAY OF COMPARISON:Tony Blair's 2005 Pledge Card:

[http://www.independent.co.uk/news/blairs-six-pledges-set-battle-lines-for-the-general-ele ction-1530163.html]

THE PLEDGE CARD

1 Your family better off: Continuing policies which have "delivered economic prosperity".

2 Your family treated better and faster: Reiterating details in the health five-year plan.

3 Your children achieving more: Wrapping up promises such as all secondary schools' specialist status.

4 Your children with the best start: Child care, children's centres and out-of-school activities.

5 Your community safer: Labour's law and order pitch.

6 Your country's borders protected: Promises of action on immigration.

No prob pingping

Though is sort of a cottage/shepherd's pie hybrid as didn't have enough lamb/beef mince on their own - is that allowed ?

BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 15:32

"Great to hear there's some voting planned for 4 June."

Really, really whoever you are, piss off.

I do not come on MN to have crap like that fired at me. You were quite funny, if a bit baffling, until you came out with that.

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:33

pingping - I've been desparately attempting to keep Katie Hopkins out of this thread... I made that clear right at the start... I'm studying whilst being a house-husband and interested in "Citizenship" and all the stuff about the state of British Democracy.

Seen this book?

[http://www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Test-Questions-Citizenship-Settlement/dp/0955215935/ref=sr_1_ 1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242225104&sr=8-1]

Anyway, forgetting that, what meal's best for Eurovision? And is it worth running a sweep-stake back here at home? Not exactly the Grand National but it might take some of the pain away if we lose AGAIN.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 15:33

Fledge, you've patronized the posters here to an astonishing degree. I'm not sure what suggesting we would vote 'if posh and becks were standing' is if it isn't treating us like simpering dolts.

pingping, not read the books yet - I'm in the middle of my own manuscript, so reading is on the backburner a bit atm. Picked up bit and pieces, but it's not grabbed me yet. I'm sure it will in due time, it does sound like my cup of tea.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro - what books are you talking about? John Masefield? Cookery books?

I don't simper over either of Posh or Becks? Do voters simper over politicians like Tony Blair? David Cameron? or Nick Clegg?

OP posts:
KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 15:36

Fledge: Clue - putting 'Katie Hopkins' in the thread title does not help convince us you are 'trying to keep her out it'.

I've already made tea, Chilli in the slow cooker. And I'd rather garotte myself with my own intestines than sit through Eurovision, so no meal seems very appropriate for that.

pingping · 13/05/2009 15:38

Your whole thread is based on her Fledge and all your threads for that matter.

Kay When you do get chance read them You will full in love with Edward also. The film did the book no justice at all.

What are you writing about???

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:39

BigBellasBeerBelly - Hey; no offence intended; but statistics suggests voting "last time" for Europe (2004) was horrifically low. To take a pretty random example, less than 40% of people voted in Swindon. Its weird what you find out when you study this stuff.

Anyway... Eurovision.... sweepstake... any good?

OP posts:
PortoPandemico · 13/05/2009 15:39

Ooh is Eurovision on this week? I bet we've got a crap song again....

pingping · 13/05/2009 15:39

Makada I never really grasped the difference between the two loool but I bet that will taste fab mmmm

VinegarTits · 13/05/2009 15:40

I'm having chilli for tea too

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:40

Steak and Kidney pie tonight! Thank God Unfortunately we've finished all the salad!

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 15:41

Fledge, FYI, I was replying to pingping about the Twilight books.

You said earlier 'would it take Posh & Becks to stand to get you voting?' That is patronizing rubbish, and that's what even a charitable reading of you posts here is coming across as.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 15:41

If you want to keep katie hopkins (whoever she is) out of the thread why mention her in the title?

Why are you banging on about "family friendly" policies? We're not a homogenous lump of SAHM types whose only interests are there families. You will find a cross section of voters on here, from across the political spectrum, including some so far right/left it can be unnerving. There are people from all walks of life, of all ages, male and female and not all with children.

What is all this shite about slebs? You seem to be implying that this homogenous group of MNers are apathetic about politics and voting. Where have you got that idea from?

I could go on but you have really got on my tits.

pingping · 13/05/2009 15:41

Fledge on a real are you that shocked at the level of votes its because we all know that all the MPs are skumbagz so we have got to a point where we don't care who gets voted in as they all talk about change but it never happens.

I for one would get the royals to take control of the government

pingping · 13/05/2009 15:42

Edward Cullen the Vampire of my dreams

PortoPandemico - here you go:

Scared to say that almost found myself liking it when listening on Radio 2 on way home from dropping off at nursery yesterday.... somehow sounded like had been enhanced since last heard it a month or two ago!

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 15:43

pingping, I'm writing a romance novel. Not a supernatural style one, though, but more straight forward in set up.

pingping · 13/05/2009 15:43

Maybe a conversation about Fanjos and monthlys will get rid of Fledge

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:44

Ah! Stephanie! In that sense do I sense a journey to Whitby? Vampires... how very European... ho ho ho....

Ever read Ivanhoe? I'm thinking I might.

OP posts:
pingping · 13/05/2009 15:45

Ooooo well your have to post its title on mumsnet when you are finished I will go get it. Hope it all goes well for you

I don't usually get into supernatural books but the twilight series has got me hooked bloody people at work reading it
