Thinking these policies might work for an MEP? (albeit maybe not Katie Hopkins)

Katie Hopkins' character has been discussed to death. Let's talk policies for mumsnet.

Let's pretend it could be Ruth Badger standing as an MEP, or Jordan, or a WAG, or Cameron from Big Brother, or Will Young, Alexandra Burke (X Factor), or Jade (Eurovision).... you get the point.

So here are the policies... and remember Tony Blair's Pledge card was even shorter when you read them...

Britain and Europe ? Involved but not dissolved

Voting numbers fell below 50% in the last European elections in 2004 - way below the number voting in reality TV shows. ???? is taking an independent stand for integrity, putting real people at the heart of democracy.

INTEGRITY
A straight talker taking an independent stand for Integrity

A stand for open and honest democracy where everyday people make the decisions based on common sense.

ARMED FORCES

An ex-army woman speaking up for armed forces and their families

A stand for a higher standard of life on base, in theatre and at home.

SMALL BUSINESS

A small business owner supporting job creators and income providers

A stand for building a prosperous economy from the bottom up.

THE ROCK
A west country woman wanting to give a real voice to Gibraltar.

?The people here are straight talkers. Politicians never answer the question, I am standing as someone who is prepared to tell it like it is.?

WORKING MOTHERS

A mother of three small children championing
women at work [Ed. substitute facts as necessary - mother/aunt/uncle/cousin/godparent/brother/sister]

A stand to support womens ambitions in business.

FARMERS AND FISHERMEN

A daughter of a farming family respecting small producers

A stand for British farmer?s rights to a sustainable income, and our fishermen?s rights to fish British waters first.

BY WAY OF COMPARISON:Tony Blair's 2005 Pledge Card:

[http://www.independent.co.uk/news/blairs-six-pledges-set-battle-lines-for-the-general-ele ction-1530163.html]

THE PLEDGE CARD

1 Your family better off: Continuing policies which have "delivered economic prosperity".

2 Your family treated better and faster: Reiterating details in the health five-year plan.

3 Your children achieving more: Wrapping up promises such as all secondary schools' specialist status.

4 Your children with the best start: Child care, children's centres and out-of-school activities.

5 Your community safer: Labour's law and order pitch.

6 Your country's borders protected: Promises of action on immigration.

reallylostitnow - wow - where's the immigrant thing come from?

OP posts:
Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:33

ladies... let's read and understand the opening to this thread... it's a real question...

Look at this:

www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article6150318.ece

Can you attempt to stick some chewing gum under your "Katie Hopkins" switches for a moment and discuss what policies work for mums and dads in Europe?

OP posts:
reallylostitnow · 13/05/2009 14:33

"6 Your country's borders protected: Promises of action on immigration. "

that doesn't sound to me like a policy with the immigrants as humans in mind.
what do you, sorry what does Katie, want to do about immigration then? what action woudl she take?

ForeverOptimistic · 13/05/2009 14:35

Who are you anyway?

Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:35

Ladies and gents... there are sure to be some great European policies for MEPs in here:

www.conservatives.com/

Which do we like? which do we find abhorrent?

OP posts:
Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:37

These guys seem to have some too - easy to spot the European ones... which ones do mumsnet like?

www.libdems.org.uk/policies

Which would make you get out and use your vote this year?

Or would it take Posh & Becks to stand to get you voting?

OP posts:
Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:40

Here're some more guys...

www.labour.org.uk/labour_policies

What gets you up and voting?

Surely some of you'd get up and voting only to make sure some policies aren't delivered? or to make sure some people aren't elected?

Ronald Reagan was an actor... Sean Connery Still is... and a great SNP man!

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/2829595.stm

Speaking of which, here are the SNP's policies... not sure which bits fit with Europe... but sure they're in there!

Why should we join in with your "consumer survey" so that you can tell your pet numpty how to market herself in a way which would make her sound family-friendly? If she doesn't know what she stands for, or what normal people would like, then maybe she should stop trying to pretend that she knows or cares anything about politics, families, Europe, or in fact any thing beyond the end of her nose.

Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:45

Ah! Wonderful Wales! Fantastic place... some ancestors there I think! Plaid Cymru... now they've got some policies too.... which do you like ladies? and gents?

[As I've said elsewhere, I'm independent - I like what Katie's doing as an English child of the 1970s... but I also like bits of what David Cameron's doing, bits of what Nick Clegg's doing, bits of what Gordon Brown's doing, etc. etc.]

I'm just frustrated at the lack of engagement. Katie is right about those voting figures being low in 2004. If democracy in Europe's a bit of a joke, masses of responsibility lies with those who don't get up and vote...

.... right... off to find UKIP policies... back in a sec... think I'll have a break after that and leave you to have a think and then reply!

OP posts:
reallylostitnow · 13/05/2009 14:47

sorry 'would it take posh and becks to stand to get you voting?'
wtf??????????????????????????????????????????

pingping · 13/05/2009 14:48

Well said AMIS

ROFL @ Your Fired HA HA HA HA Alan Sugar would sort this out no doubt.

reallylostitnow · 13/05/2009 14:48

delusional.

Fledge · 13/05/2009 14:49

Aha!

UKIP policy number one - break British membership of the EU (an amicable "divorce" if you like - John Bull leaves Europa and discusses the divorce settlement.... potentially messy!):

www.ukip.org/content/ukip-policies

But other policies too - some better than others!?

Right.... I'm off for a while... thinking time for you ladies and gents!

Which policies work for mums and dads in their teens, twenties and thirties? and, most importantly, for their children as those children grow up!

OP posts:
pingping · 13/05/2009 14:54

LMAO @ Posh and Becks gosh no it would take a decent honest MEP to get me to vote someone that would actually deal with the issues instead of talking about them someone who actually meant what they said since all them are corrupt none of them will get my vote I vote not to vote in any electon again after we pay these people thousands and yet they still take the piss on expenses and people say immigration & Benefits are draining our money as far as I can see its the Government and all involved with there houses and pornos...

Now fledge please piss off with these threads so we can get back to talking about Greggs sausage rolls and fruit shoots and hissing at the trolls

SpaceTrain · 13/05/2009 14:54

oh do fuck off

PMSLBrokeMN · 13/05/2009 14:56

FUCK OFF ALREADY!

There, look what you made me do!

Oh, and yes, I vote. None of your business why and who for. Go trawl Netmums for crap free ideas.

PMSLBrokeMN · 13/05/2009 14:56

VinegarTits · 13/05/2009 15:04

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:06

Great to hear there's some voting planned for 4 June. Sad about all that swearing. This site defitely rates at least PG... and seems not to be suitable for broadcast before the "watershed"...

... unsettles me really... sorry I misunderstood you all... thought you might be intersted in discussing something that affects all our lives - for a long time...

... at least per UKIP:

Ooh, I had a chicken and salad wrap, followed by a banana. It was very nice, though I think I'll put some mango chutney on the next time, as it was a bit bland.

reallylostitnow · 13/05/2009 15:07

discussion is fine, but you seemed to be pusing a particular agenda and pretending not to be.

Fledge · 13/05/2009 15:07

Oh! I had Chicken and chips... and hoops! At last something pleasant.

Welcome to the Real World, oh weird and strange individual. Mums SWEAR ! They also know when someone's just canvassing for free ideas, oh yes, we have a few brain cells left! So please, don't let the door hit you on the way out, I think we've made it more than clear what our opinions are!
