I can't open the kitchen windows and door or my little ones bedroom window and is soooooo warm today! Its driving me mad!

They smoke outside their house as they won't smoke inside and yet expose us to it in the process!

to all you smokers... you really stink.
you think you don't, but you do. and your house stinks. and your car and your clothes. and one day, when you give up, you'll realise that i'm right.

ChippingIn · 13/04/2009 22:28

lowenergylightbulb - if it's so difficult to find somewhere to smoke these days, why not stop??

Smoke smells revolting - why should anyone else have to put up with smelling it in their home?? It's your habit, not theirs. I can smell it if someone is smoking outside and the windows are shut, it gets in and it's horrible.

Car emissions might be worse (or not), but they don't smell.

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 13/04/2009 22:28

if you get on with them, just mention the childs window.
but tbh if they say no, it is their garden

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 22:31

Ya boo! I'm a pretend smoker (3/4 a day) so I don't stink!

AitchTwoOh · 13/04/2009 22:33

you do! honestly. i'm telling you. your hands smell funny.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 13/04/2009 22:34

Aitch is right. Smokers stink.

You could ask them very nicely but don't expect them to do anything about it.

Your child is unlikely to come to any harm unless there is a fan sucking the smoke directly into the bedroom.

I am with FAQ in being highly sceptical that smoking in the garden next door could pollute your washing.

random · 13/04/2009 22:37

I probably stink of wine as well ...[sprays nasty smelling superdrug bodyspray on thread] is that better

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 22:37

Seriously why would you be smelling me mitts?...anyway I always wash my hands ...actually I quite like to smoke in my garden

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 13/04/2009 22:37

it would be lovely if you had a good enough relationship to ask them to move.

Failing that the smells that come in from outside are your responsibility to keep out of you don't like the smell - get a fan in the window opening to blow away outside - burn incense/essential oils on the windowsill.

AitchTwoOh · 13/04/2009 22:41

lol at you two.

but really, you do stink. and one day you'll give up and you'll see...

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 22:49

I probably do a little ..I gave up for a couple of years..then i started again..when i went back to work I decided I wouldn't smoke during the day and I have stuck to it for the last 2 years...just got to get rid of the one when I get in..one after dinner and one before bed..

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 13/04/2009 22:51

Yanbu, we've a residential place next door to us and as we moved in, they had to start a smoking area outside - and guess whose house it is next to.

I've been aksing them for 9 months to move it but they keep stalling for no good reason. It's right outside ds's window and our front door, plus prevailing wind means it blows right into our garden. We both have 100ft gardens so they could move it easily, bastards...they're a nightmare in a lot of ways though. I hate them.

AitchTwoOh · 13/04/2009 22:53

that's the nightmare, isn't it, the false give-up. i remember giving up for six months and then thinking 'just one waffer-thin ciggie' and i was back on twenty a day by the end of the week.

just jack them in altogether. you know you really don't need them if you're going hours without a fag.

Pannacotta · 13/04/2009 22:55

I think you should ask, no harm in that.
You're not asking them not to smoke, only to light up further away, which seems fine to me.
One set of our neighbours smoke (we have several sets of neighbours, sadly) and every time we go out into the front garden it really stinks, so I totally sympathise with you.

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 23:00

you are right Aitch..

Desiderata · 13/04/2009 23:00

We know we stink, Aitch. We don't care, y'now

One day, you'll smell of wee.

onagar · 13/04/2009 23:02

Bonfire

Cigarette

Comsider the relative size and quantity of smoke

AitchTwoOh · 13/04/2009 23:04

i don't believe you, tbh. i think if you knew how acrid it is you'd be pretty shocked. if you're smoking you only really get the top notes, the warm and inviting smell. it's when you give up that you suddenly smell how bitter it is.

BootyShake · 13/04/2009 23:09

Its true, you dont know how bad it smells until you stop. I gave up two years ago and whenever I smell someone thas just had a fag I cant believe how awful they smell.

Desiderata · 13/04/2009 23:13

Aha! Top notes?

Aitch has been doing a course in aromatherapy, methinks

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 23:25

I know how much they stink..when the smokers at work come to chat i think 'You really have stinky breath' I don't know what one of them smokes but her breath actually smells like crap...we even have one who part smokes the cig and holds it in her hand..thats really badd..she reeks

BootyShake · 13/04/2009 23:29

Not just the breath or their hands, one cig makes their clothes reek.

She smoked using her hand? As opposed to what, her foot?

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 23:33

hahaha..she holds the part smoked cig in her hand and it reeks!

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 23:34

she could at least put it back in the box or something!

AitchTwoOh · 13/04/2009 23:35

not so, smelly.
