Driving home tonight with DH and DS and our local gang of wee knobs hardmen are throwing stones at moving cars. Clever boys that they are.

DH goes to turn our car and they do it again - so DH marches over and says in no uncertain terms that if they do it again he won't mess about it.

I have no problem at all with kids being out playing - I lived two minutes away from our current house when I grew up (and dinosaurs roamed) and we all played outside. But FFS DS is 5 and knows that throwing stones at cars is v wrong and these "young men" are at a guess 9 or 10.

Just waiting to wake up tomorrow morning to a horses head in my bed with a warning.....

I don't agree with threatening them, but i imagine its hard not to, in the heat of the moment when some little cunt is throwing a stone at your car or whatever not to say something.

Earlier in the week DH took DD out in her sling and a bunch of hoodies from the holiday camp were walking behind them saying "whats that on his back?" "OMG its a fucking monkey" and "look at the size of her arse" Shes 1 FFS !! DH made some comment about it being uncool to bully baby girls and they ran off all sheepish.

Not so long ago, one of my Dad's work colleagues was driving to work on the dual carriageway in our town. There are several footbridges over the road, connecting two notoriously rough areas. She was driving under one of these when a pair of kids threw a live cat over the bridge and it hit her windscreen, killing the cat and very nearly her, as she lost control of the car and overturned it (thankfully, she escaped with only minor injuries, which was a miracle).

When the police caught the kids involved (CCTV evidence I believe), they were aged 9 and 11. Got sent away with a slap on the wrist, despite gross animal cruelty and what can only be described as attempted murder.

So, although I don't agree with it, I can see why people are driven to threaten kids of that age.

SmallShips · 10/04/2009 16:55

A live cat?! What the hell is wrong with some people?! I was still playing with barbies at 9 (perhaps slight exaggeration) it would never have crossed my mind to find a cat to throw off a bridge.

ilovesprouts · 10/04/2009 17:16

chuck them off the bridge more like how very cruel no wonder some kids are like that today

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 10/04/2009 17:24

Oh for Christ's sake if 9 and 11 year old kids are throwing cats off bridges, then it's their parents and home life you should be examining. The criminal justice system is a totally inappropriate forum for finding out why they did this and to ensure that they don't do anything like this again, understand why it's wrong and grow up normal and not repeat the cycle with their own kids.

But yeah, let's all be thick and say we should throw them off bridges instead.

FFS.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 10/04/2009 17:24

Kids have always been cruel like that. It's becasue they come from cruel families.

jeminthecity · 10/04/2009 17:25

It's not really ok to threaten little kids imho, but i understand why you were cross.

Other tactics could be used, I take it you're adults?

ScummyMummy · 10/04/2009 19:16

God, how awful, Eve4Walle. Glad your cousin was ok but sounds bloody traumatic. Poor cat too.

Took dog for walk today and council had planted about 100 plants on the side of a park a week ago. Dh commented at the time that they wouldn't last long. Sure enough approximately half of them had been pulled out today, not for any other reason than wanton distruction. They weren't taken, just thrown aside so it was purely for the thrill of vandalising. Also the dog poo bin had been pushed so far up the lampost that it was impossible to use. Dh 6' 4" couldnt reach it to pull it down so it must have been one kid standing on another's shoulder. Why would anybody go to that much effort just to cause inconvenience to others. I said to dh that when I was younger it was a premium to live near a park, now it must take money off your property to have yobs hanging around all night. We have been walking dog at midnight and bypassed the park because of youths shouting and drinking in them.

ilovesprouts · 10/04/2009 20:01

bella oh yes lets all be thick ,dont say nowt to any of em and let em get away we stuff shall we how would you feel if they said to you they would drag your ds2 out of the buggy and spit all over em and say its ok your mum did not bring you up right you say owt to the kis round our way they tell you to fuck off and i mean 5 6 7 years old too many kids are running wild !!!!!

onagar · 11/04/2009 14:41

ilovesprouts · 11/04/2009 14:52

they could try

OrmIrian · 11/04/2009 20:47

So onagar, to paraphrase 'the only things these animals understand is violence'. Is that it?

So what's the fucking point of being human? We might as well say sod it all and buy guns and barbed wire.

What a charming Easter message.

Baisey · 11/04/2009 22:53

Last year we were having a bit of trouble with a gang of teenagers hanging outside our block of flats, shouting, playing music, drinking, etc. Easy way of getting rid of them.
Go downstairs with pet staffordshire bull terrior, she doesnt half pull when she only has collar and lead on, this looks rather menacing, she's a very inquisitive dog so pulls towards the teenagers, team this with a surly stare off me and hey presto gang of teenagers go off to search for a better safer loitering place.
FYI pet staffordshire bull terrior is the biggest, softest, teddy bear going, but they didnt know that lol!

Sorry not had a chance to be back before now. DH and DS were outside playing football today and lovely little darlings went by on their bikes.

DH got an ok Mr? from one of them and a yes thanks back from DH.

What made me really sad was the fact that these young lads have no-one that will be arsed to play football with them. Which explains why they behave the way they do....

Don't know if anyone heard radio 5 the other night but the woman from Kids Company was on talking about how we can't expect children and young folk to take responsibility for their actions til they are in their 20's. And the kids who haven't had the nurturing, attention and love will never have a fully developed frontal lobe which allows them to regulate their behaviour. Prompted a very heated discussion. Just like mumsnet!

Hope you all enjoy your eggs tomorrow
