Tothink that opera is just musicals for posh people in same way that Archers is for people too uptight to admit to enjoying soaps?

Completely

becaroo · 07/04/2009 19:26

...agree that is!!!

hf128219 · 07/04/2009 19:27

And ballet is just a load of people leaping around?

pginthecloset · 07/04/2009 19:27

It's totally true! I said as much to DH the other night when we saw some highbrow wailing on BBC4

Thunderduck · 07/04/2009 19:27

I love musicals and opera and I'm not posh. DP is posh and loves both also.

Katisha · 07/04/2009 19:30

What's wrong with being posh?

hf128219 · 07/04/2009 19:31

It's an unwritten rule - people can take the piss out of posh people.

moondog · 07/04/2009 19:31

I mean,it's all flimsy story lines and cracking toe tappin' tunes eh?

And wtf is the Archers thing about? I listened once. Someone pretended to be a Hungarian farmhand [Gawd knows why]. It was embarrassing.

at highbrow wailing

opera is not just for posh people. It's for anyone who likes to listen to opera music.

YABU

pginthecloset · 07/04/2009 19:32

moondog · 07/04/2009 19:32

Olifin · 07/04/2009 19:32

I love opera and the Archers and I'm defo not posh. Just maybe a bit square

Winebeforepearls · 07/04/2009 19:32

Have you been to the real live thing, Moondog?

Katisha · 07/04/2009 19:33

SO therefore why the equation opera = posh?

pginthecloset · 07/04/2009 19:33

I think people are being a bit defensive about the thread - I'm sure it was just meant to be light-hearted..

Thunderduck · 07/04/2009 19:33

Nothing at all wrong with being 'posh'.

Thunderduck · 07/04/2009 19:34

And nothing wrong with Opera either. I can't comment on The Archers as I don't really listen to the radio.

moondog · 07/04/2009 19:34

Of course! Many times.
I was baptised by being taken to see The Mastersingers of Nuremberg by my father when I was 14.He wasn't pleased when my mother, sisters and I all fell asleep.

Am posh and uptight 'The Archers - the opera' here I come...

Nontoxic · 07/04/2009 19:36

Can't wait to quote that line to my opera-loving friend next time she slags off musicals. And she likes the Archers.

muggglewump · 07/04/2009 19:36

YANBU
Just go and see Joseph and watch S'tenders like the rest of us. Innit

singingmum · 07/04/2009 19:36

Raised on council estate and my dp works in shop LOVE OPERA!!!!!!!!!!
And so do my dc's.It is not just toe tapping tunes and better storylines than any soap opera
Soap opera = washed out story lines with no decent writers and no taste
So there

pointydog · 07/04/2009 19:37

I agree.

And people who like going to musicals are just nutz.

Thunderduck · 07/04/2009 19:37

Nothing wrong with musicals either.

pointydog · 07/04/2009 19:38
