Tothink that opera is just musicals for posh people in same way that Archers is for people too uptight to admit to enjoying soaps?

Sorry Thunderduck! (I did put IMO!)

I once sat under a trap door for about 3 hours waiting for my cue to turn a handle, whilst Phantom muffled on above my head, I think maybe that has influenced my opinion!

Shit! I knew it. In fact I did know that. Hellfire.

I am English/adopted Scot - guesss I like the SF as I don't always sleep well - liked drifting off listening to it, and it's oddly exotic and familiar at the same time.

Love opera, love the Archers, love early choral music.

But I am well rough.

LOL@Hazey. I think that would put even the most ardent fan off.

Nothing wrong wih some bits of Wagner - Flying Dutchman is very tuneful and relatively short (2.5 hours). Ring Cycle though is rather an acquired taste (unfortunately DH has acquired it).

retiredgoth2 · 07/04/2009 20:38

...I hate Wagner too.

Except in Hart to Hart of course...

pointydog · 07/04/2009 20:38

I like opera highlights but usually find the whole thing a bit tedious.

Apart from Gilbert and Sullivan but that is not really opera is it?

Madsometimes · 08/04/2009 15:05

I have only seen one opera which was the Magic Flute. It was sung in English and was fab. It is not high brow though, and was definitely a musical of its day.

I also like musicals, and am not posh!
