to think that it seems if you have a DS first, most often the second is a boy?

However if you have a girl first it seems far more evenly spread that the second is either a boy or girl?!!!

Just an observation but it does seem that way!

Why is this in AIBU?

I seem to recall reading some research or an article on this in the last year or so.

I'll have a rootle

I do know a lot of people who have 2 or more girls though.

neenztwinz · 05/04/2009 21:35

I had boy then girl, but they are twins so do they count?

BalloonSlayer · 05/04/2009 21:36

Someone told me years ago that when you have your second child, there is a 70% chance that you will have the same sex as your first.

Just thinking of a sample of 20 friends and rels with 2+ children, the first two are:

Girl, then girl: 4

Girl, then boy 7

Boy, then girl 4

Boy, then boy 5

Any help???

Bleatblurt · 05/04/2009 21:36

Boy, boy, boy for me.

neenztwinz · 05/04/2009 21:38

Ooh yes two of my friends have a boy then a girl. Others are

Girl, girl, boy
girl, girl
boy, boy

er, I don't actually know that many people with two kids!

tryingtobemarypoppins · 05/04/2009 21:39

I'm still reading that site and trying to understand it!!!! Can anyone understand it and make it simple for me!

OP posts:
Bleatblurt · 05/04/2009 21:40

The end of that site says

Conclusion
Although we often hear the "statistic" that you are 30% or even 70% more likely to keep having the same gender, this is just an old wives tale. It is NOT a fact. The truth is, your odds stay pretty close to 50% for each child and only vary slightly. If you have had 2 or 3 boys, you are only about 2% to 6% more likely to have another boy. If you have had girls, you are slightly more likely to have a boy next.

Which makes it a lot clearer than all the blurb beforehand lol.
