Moondog - that's the reporter that said those things - just pointing out what I should imagine were some pretty obvious things to the naked eye

The same article says that

"Louise is not inclined to blame the government for her difficulties. She is grateful for the money she gets every week and doesn't think her life would be much enhanced by increased payments."

faq, indeed people need help, education and rescourses to help themselves....

and phew che...was just wondering, because I am not very eloquent to night, I think....

chegirl · 21/03/2009 22:16

FAQ no! Look at the size of those gardens!

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:16

right then Chelle - then you would know from the website that they won't be able to choose where they live, they'll receive a maximum of £42 a week (if they're single). If you have a baby under 12 months you'll get an extra £5 a week, aged 1-3 £3 a week extra,

Accomodation is provided by the government in

  • north west;
  • midlands;
  • north east;
  • Wales; and
  • Scotland.

If you've been waiting more than 12 months then you may be able to work, but not in certain types of job (doesn't say what)

None of that is available for illegal immigrants - because they are ILLEGAL.

lol Che - I know - I'm jealous

What FAQ said.

pooka · 21/03/2009 22:22

One of those "immigrants" has got a horse. Have they any idea how much livery fees are?

Chellesgirl · 21/03/2009 22:32

West Midlands

I used to know some illegal immigrants. They bought a garage (with an office behind) round the back of the flats where I lived and they set up a 'car wash'. They worked hard charging really low prices. But they always seemed to drive the really nice cars. They had been here for 4 years and lived in the office part of the garage. No - one Knew as you couldnt see it from the outside. I only knew as I made friends with them. That was all until they got busted! Dunno where they are now but it was a nice cheap wash for my baby every week.

chegirl · 21/03/2009 22:34

FairLady dont worry, I seem to have lost the ability to string two words together. Mind you this subject has that affect on me.

FAQ dont be jealous, imagine the gardener's fees - they want £2.50 an hour these days

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:34

"But they always seemed to drive the really nice cars."

that's probably because they busted their gut working hard, lived in a garage which no-one knew they lived in (apart from those who used their "custom") and therefore didn't have rent/council tax/other bills to pay

Pg1 by FAQ : "I saw some very large people shoveling food into their mouths who were definitely living in poverty when I was in Zim. Body ize and happening to have food to shovel into your mouth are not linked to poverty (by and large) "---- then what IS???? The recent RedNose cry-for-help displayed some rather malnourished people in their program and I would say they were most definitely living in poverty.
How would you define poverty then?

FairLadyRantALot · 21/03/2009 22:37

well...faq...you missed the detail...they bought it...that detail doesn't wash right, tbh...buying anything propertywise isn't that simple and it implys you actually have the capital to start of with....because I doubt illegal immigrants get morgags....

chegirl · 21/03/2009 22:40

chelle if they worked really hard, do you think thats how they got nice cars?

Ok they should have been paying taxes on what they earnt but apart from that what is the problem? They were working and providing a cheap service for local people. They were not living in council accomadation either.

I honestly do not understand why people get so het up about immigration. The way some carry on you would think that if there were no immigrants (illegal or otherwise) there would be no housing shortage, no crime, the NHS would be able to afford free boob jobs on demand, unemployment would be nil etc etc.

Am I the one being naive?

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:41

Depends on whether you're talking about poverty on a global or national scale

I tend to agree with what most of the WBO says. here

It's very complex and not something than you can just put a "label" on.

OP posts:
FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:42

FairLady - depends who they "bought" it off .

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 21/03/2009 22:43

suppose so faq...but some initial capital would have had to be involved...surely...

Chellesgirl · 21/03/2009 22:46

They bought it off thier immigrant friend.

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:47

true - although we don't know what they were doing before they "bought" it - or one what terms it was bought (if indeed it was)......

DH has "bought" my (lovely less than a year old, mine, ALL mine WAAAAH) dishwasher off me as there's no space for it here and there's a fitted one.

He hasn't paid me a penny for it yet - and I'm not expecting to see anything for it any time soon either LOL.

OP posts:
FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:50

anyhow - how did you know they were illegal immigrants??

OP posts:
Chellesgirl · 21/03/2009 22:57

they told me and my DP. What it was, was that this illegal immigrant was from bosnia and came to UK. He already knew the immigrant guy who owned the garage. He sold it to him, the illegal guy had money in bosnia. the immigrant guy said that if he sets up the business then his sons have to work for him.

FAQinglovely · 21/03/2009 22:59

lol - they told you? I don't think many illegal immigrants would be divulging that sort of comment tbh.........

Chellesgirl · 21/03/2009 22:59

They used to get 'deliveries' at about 3 in morning from some trampy beat up van. They managed to stay open for about 9 months.

he became good mates with my DP. We used to 'chill' with them on hot days, you know, music blearing, smokin the whacky backy (not us tho) We got talking the one time about how the illegal immigrant had his motorbike crushed by DVLA but they never realised he was illegal!
