Moondog - that's the reporter that said those things - just pointing out what I should imagine were some pretty obvious things to the naked eye

The same article says that

"Louise is not inclined to blame the government for her difficulties. She is grateful for the money she gets every week and doesn't think her life would be much enhanced by increased payments."

Take out the savings bit, cus I know its my head on a stick next!

Why was she not put into accom then??? I dont get why some councild can do one thing and others a next?

DSM · 24/03/2009 23:30

I used to earn more than £27,000 a year and I have no savings.

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:30

Its all coming out wrong!!!!!!!!

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:31

are you a shopperholic DSM??? Own up.

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:33

Chelle - at one point when DH and I were together we had a joint income of £35k a year, we had no savings, couldn't afford any, the money coming in covered the debts, bills, food.

Who are the loons on this thread? It's a bit scary really

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:35

Maybe she did the right thing then and paid off all her debts etc... Better in the long run than being homeless, no job and having debts.

She just seemed like she was faking it all.

DSM · 24/03/2009 23:35

No, not a shopaholic.
The nature of my work means I can earn £30,000 one year and £8000 the next. Currently, I have no savings.

I agree she should have been put into accommodation, there must have been a reason why she wasn't.

Obviously not all homeless people are put into accommodation, otherwise we wouldn't see people sleeping on the streets.

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:35

DSM - i think thats the point I was trying to make earlier. It came out all scewiffy.

The people on the streets sleeping in doorways with thier trolley loads of binbags filled with god know what, eating out of bins - Is what the council call 'homeless' as 'This morning' was trying to make a point of. They said that the 'homeless people are treated first' 'bla blas not treated as homeless cause she can get to a shelter'

I still dont get it. The council say thier homeless, and do nothing still? Or is it the homeless people to drunk to accept?

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:43

Comprende? Non?

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:47

sounds like they highlighted which ever council it was to show how they're doing it all very wrongly, as most councils (afaik) don't only class you has homeless if you're already sleeping on the street.

DSM · 24/03/2009 23:47

Well, in the defense of the government (I don't think I have ever said that before..) if they have a list of homeless people, why should this woman get to skip to the front?

They can all get to a shelter, so that makes no sense.

I am sure these people weren't born homeless, therefore they presumably had homes and possibly jobs at some point.

But she should skip in front of them for accommodation, why?

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:51

"They can all get to a shelter, so that makes no sense."

well yes they can get to a sheleter if the shelters aren't already full (as they often are).

Did anyone watch Secret Millionaire on Sunday night? Had "homeless" families, no they weren't in B&B's, or on the streets, they were living buildings, but absolutely appalling conditions, 1 room for a family of 4, syringes right outside the front door, absolute squalor.

OP posts:
DSM · 24/03/2009 23:53

Sorry - that wasn't my opinion in general, it was referring to this statement chellesgirl said:

They said that the 'homeless people are treated first' 'bla blas not treated as homeless cause she can get to a shelter

Meaning that the woman was put before people on the streets as she could get to a shelter. I was merely stating that everyone is capable of getting to a shelter.

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:54

She shouldnt, by no means. And they did say something too about how many people are on the 'homeless list' being less than those who are actually homeless, like myself, DP and DD on Friday. They dont have enough accom to home everyone. But its sad becuase like this Lady on tele, its not her fault so why should she suffer at Tony Blairs and Gordon Browns 'Mistake' along with the Bank of England.

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:59

DSM- thats what I thought, Everyone is capable of getting to a shelter, but is it these drug addicts and alcoholics cant be bothered or are they just not getting spotted and told about the help?

I know round my town, around the shopping centre there are 3 men and 1 woman 'homeless.' I cant actually say tey are homeless as Ive never seen them walk into thier house if they have one, but 2 of them have thier trolies and walk long miles every day, at least 10, and the other two are full on drunks and just lie on the street.

FAQinglovely · 25/03/2009 00:01

the problem is that there simply aren't enough spaces in homeless shelters, so it's not uncommon for a homeless person to walk miles from shelter to shelter to try and find a bed for the night to find them all full and having to sleep on the streets.

OP posts:
Chellesgirl · 25/03/2009 00:03

ok then change the subject slighlty.

Is it only homeless poeple that do the 'big issue'???

FAQinglovely · 25/03/2009 00:04

and actually you know just thinking about it now, if I were to suddenly find myself homeless tomorrow I wouldn't actually know where the shelter was in our town (if we even have one?)

OP posts:
FAQinglovely · 25/03/2009 00:06

it's homeless and vulnerably housed (ie those in temporary accommodation)
