BunnyLebowski · 18/03/2009 18:17

.....sexy baby over and over again i.e

"Who's a sexy little baby?"

"DD's a sexy little baby"

"Sexy sexy sexy baby"

DD is 5 months old.

MIL was up visiting last weekend. I asked her not to use language like that as it's horrible and sounds completely ridiculous.

What's wrong with cute/gorgeous/cheeky ffs?!

Didn't go down well but she didn't do it again!

Was IBU?

P.S - This is my first post EVER on mn so please be gentle!

eugh

just tell her to stop

cornsilk · 18/03/2009 18:19

How strange.

MummyDoIt · 18/03/2009 18:19

Yuk. Can't think of anything more inappropriate.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 18/03/2009 18:19

I agree. It's stupid. (not to mention incorrect use of the word) Well done for telling her.

Haribosmummy · 18/03/2009 18:20

You are not being unreasonable.

I would hate anyone to refer to my DSDs (even though they are 14 and 11 now!) as sexy if they were adults.

To me 9 month old son, I would find it positively strange.

i think you are right to ask her to stop.

LadyOfWaffle · 18/03/2009 18:22

my MIL called DS sexy legs

JustCallMeGoat · 18/03/2009 18:23

she is a freak well done on telling her to stop

Lulumama · 18/03/2009 18:23

YANBU

i really can;t stand the use of the word sexy in regards to children.

like you say, there are lots of different words

babies and children are many things, but not sexy.

Blottedcopybook · 18/03/2009 18:23

Ugh - no, YA def NBU. I'd freak if someone, ANYONE referred to my kids in those terms.

MargotBeauregarde · 18/03/2009 18:25

yup. That's horrible. My xmil used to say to my son "I'm gonna eat you up, I'm gonna eat you up". It made me shudder.

My xstepMil told my dd she had hair legs!!!!

Lovely to be able to type those Xs! xmil xstepmil phew!

GossipMonger · 18/03/2009 18:25

A Mum at school calls ds2 (4y) 'sexy' when he wears shorts and it makes me cringe!!

I just dont know what to do or say without being horrible to her!

YANBU

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 18/03/2009 18:26

DD is just 2 and a mother at playgroup always says to her DS "Hello sexy" when she picks him up... Bleh, bleh, gross inappropriate word to describe a child

missblythe · 18/03/2009 18:27

'tis vile.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 18/03/2009 18:28

you'd be surprised though, how many people do use it and get very defensive and tell you that they don't mean it "like that"

the word means sexually attractive. It's quite clear.

Although 'sexy' seems to be used to describe everything these days. A sexy baby, a sexy car, a sexy cup, a sexy sofa, a sexy tin of beans in your bloody cupboard.

HOW many words in the damned English language ffs?! You haven't got a limit you're allowed to use!

psychomum5 · 18/03/2009 18:29

an old friend of mine used to refer to her son like that, from being born.

not something I like I have to say!

Ledodgy · 18/03/2009 18:31

I agree Hecate. I blame Nigella.

ZZZen · 18/03/2009 18:31

very odd

2shoes · 18/03/2009 18:32

yanbu

ZZZen · 18/03/2009 18:32

I would have done the same BL. How is sexy appropriate for a baby? Weird

MrsMattie · 18/03/2009 18:32

Weird. I'd tell her to stop, too.

Rindercella · 18/03/2009 18:34

YANBU. Horrible, horrible, horrible and well done for telling your MIL. If she continues to do it, please continue to tell her to stop. It is entirely inappropriate and I am sure there are a thousand words to call your DD and sexy would not even figure.

Welcome to MN... am sure you won't get a flaming with this as your first post

Lawks · 18/03/2009 18:39

I call my daughter scrumptious. Is that okay?

BunnyLebowski · 18/03/2009 18:42

Cheers everyone!

I knew I was right but it's nice to have my stance validated by you lovely lot

DP agreed with me but was less vociferous as he didn't want to upset his mum....

Ta!

Wierdo (not you Bunny - a big fluffy welcome to you)

I am always calling my DSs handsome (because they are)
