to think that if a couple are both very disabled that they are very selfish to have children

who end up being their carers?
I understand that some people become ill/disabled or have accidents. But if I had a dibilitating disease and my husband had something chronic too I would npt have children that I could not give a good life to. A life that would mean from a young age they do most if not all of the housework and help me get dressed, wash etc. It's just wrong. Those poor children with the weight of the world on their shoulders.
Having children is not a right.

The fact that you namechanged for this shows you know you're wrong. What next, forcible sterilsation for the disabled? Hitler would be very proud of us.

Please ladies, allow me.

Do fuck off OP, there's a love.

Divineintervention · 16/03/2009 19:59

I think you mean debilitating .
I agree, I did think that it was awful for that little boy on comic relief looking after his parents. Perhaps he should get more help, but he doesn't and his parents should have found out what was available before they had him and his little brother.
Love is not ever enough to make a good parent or a happy child.

I have to say that i would view each case on its own merits ( gosh i sound like a politician!) I agree i would feel the same way as you ,however im not sure that gives me the right to expect the rest of the world to feel the same .So strictly on the fence on this one

Nabster · 16/03/2009 20:00

stupid and a coward

Divineintervention · 16/03/2009 20:01

I don't get the flaming, well I kind of do... But surely OP has a point?
If both would be parents know that little offspring is going to have to do everything for them at the age of nine, isn't it a little selfish???

roomforthree · 16/03/2009 20:01

IMHO your YHO is bullshit. Ever heard of eugenics?

I was about to agree with nab and tmmj, because who on earth has children just so they can guarantee themselves a carer?

But then, I don't know if people will remember, but last year there was that controversial programme about having very large families and a disabled couple (one sight-impaired, maybe both?) kept knocking out children so they could be cared for/claim the benefits. The eldest girls did all the work and the littlest children went to sleep on the floor. It caused a big fuss on MN. But the extent of the reaction made me think they must be unusual.
