To be scared to meet MNers in real life?

Longtime lurked here who seldom posts as you all seem much wittier and wiser than me!

I notice that there are meet ups between MNers regularly. My question is, are the ones you have met really as dazzling in their charm or pithy in their wit as they would have you believe? Or (gulp) even more so?

Of course, if they are crashingly dull feel free to say so, haha. Personally I would be quite scared to meet some...too good to be true, or maybe intimidating. What are your experiences, and AIBU?

fattiemumma is a liar, she is not fat

TrillianAstra · 12/03/2009 22:55

And I bet you have more than 2 shoes...

ShowOfHands · 12/03/2009 22:56

Have met several MNers, even slept at the house of one of them on more than one occasion. All lovely yet nothing like I imagined. Apart from one, who was exactly like I imagined.

There are a few I'm desperate to meet though.

2shoes · 12/03/2009 22:56

well, i

TrillianAstra · 12/03/2009 23:00

2 of them I imagine.

My name isn't a lie because it doesn't say anything.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 12/03/2009 23:19

I'm pretty sure I won't rock up to a meet up in a primark ensemble, but it won't be Prada either hat's for sure.

MumGoneCrazy · 12/03/2009 23:39

I'd be too shy

Im not good with new people unless ive got a few vodkas in me but as im pregnant i cant and if i turned up tipsy it wouldnt go down too well with you lot

Also im not sure if there's many from my area in South Wales

MumGoneCrazy · 12/03/2009 23:49

Im also a thread killer it seems

fattiemumma · 13/03/2009 07:59

Im at Gatwick, Primark. so not quite in london but its within travelling distance for those special MNers worthy of the trip

Rhubarb · 13/03/2009 08:02

Oooh, are you like one of those people who live in airports?

fattiemumma · 13/03/2009 08:05

not quite so posh. i live in the slums round the back

hidetheribbons · 13/03/2009 13:50

I wouldn't go to a meet up, what I like about this site is the anonymity!

agree Fio (about shyness bit) am not good in large groups ... particularly large groups of women

sure you WOULD be v. welcome btw

screamingabdab · 13/03/2009 17:18

Counting. I also do not like large groups. I like the anonymity of MN, but I do like the feeling of having "hit it off" or made someone laugh online. I'd be horribly disappointed if that didn't translate to real life.

Countingthegreyhairs · 13/03/2009 20:29

agree screaming - it's much harder sometimes to be heard in rl - am rendered mute by large groups but will happily gabble on here ad infinitum and probably ad nauseam ...

FairLadyRantALot · 13/03/2009 20:38

Hm,I have met people through Babycentre, Raising Kids and even mumsnet (although not a meet up, it was through "a mile for maude")....and I generally think that people tend to be a lot like their Internet persona....never been disapointed....
