aibu to think twitter is narcissism of the highest order, taking what is essentially the 'what you are doing' line from facebook and expecting anyone to give a shit.

I could get down but I doubt I'll ever get back up again

I only have one follower Alistair too, but I can never find anyone to stalk follow.

LoveMyLapTop · 07/02/2009 17:32

ROFL@ Head Fary will follow you if you want in a non stlker type fashion!
I am on there as my MN name

SugarSpike · 07/02/2009 17:34

Ive just joined, still not sure, can be interesting listening to wot the likes of phil scofield and jonathon ross are up to but Im sure the novelty will wear off. I dont think I will be doing much status updates as my life is to boring and I have 1 follower of whom I dont know, cant find any of my real friends on there either.

HeadFairy · 07/02/2009 17:36

Uh-oh, you have a stalker lovemylaptop

LoveMyLapTop · 07/02/2009 17:38

You've done it now, doomed doomed I can tell you!

HeadFairy · 07/02/2009 17:42

Oh dear, I'm going to be wasting even more time at work. Was doing a piece for a N24 bulletin and was so distraced by Mnet we were really late, only just made air. Now I'm doubly distracted

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 10:58

what a pile of cack, really! i've never used facebook, but people like janet street porter and toby young don't have a great deal of good stuff to say about it.

it's utterly boring. why would anyone want to spend their life micro-blogging what they do. try talking to people in the real world... other humans...

those who communicate the most usually have the least to say. true saying.

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 10:59

sorry, I meant twitter, not facebook! but I also have a dislike for facebook too.

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 11:12

I like twitter, i like readin other people shit updates

So get on Twitter and follow me cos im narcissistic interesting

daftpunk · 16/02/2009 11:17

it's another load of crap for saddos with no life or RL mates.

daftpunk · 16/02/2009 11:18

just like facebook

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 11:20

Er thanks for that DP, so your saying i have no life or rl friends? each to their own

daftpunk · 16/02/2009 11:25

apart from you VT...who i find extremely interesting and entertaining.....

Highlander · 16/02/2009 11:37

I started twittering last week (cos everyone else is . But I just don't get the point. Seems to be another sleb, 'look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!' platform.

DaddyJ · 16/02/2009 11:39

I like the Search function,
ignoring the rest of it

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 12:02

daftpunk, I totally get where you are coming from. facebook and twitter are just a fad, people will get bored of both applications and it will be another time-wasting site that will be dominating people's lives next year.
we all use the internet, fair enough, but to deliberately spend hours in front of one website detailing when you went for a dump, what you had for dinner, or what you bought at the shops is just boring. no one really gives a toss.

Ledodgy · 16/02/2009 12:04

I like twitter too. The sheer randomness appeals. I got a direct message from Yoko Ono yesterday ffs!

daftpunk · 16/02/2009 12:10

exactly ahfeckit....who gives a fuck about someone elses boring life, & why the hell would i want to see photos of someone drunk on a night out?? ....i've never had FB, i'm in touch with all the people i like, if i've not been in touch with you for 15 years it's probably because i don't really like you. ...tbh this is the only "social" website i've ever used, (and ever will use)...it's enough.

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 12:22

I know, mumsnet is really just something I use sporadically. may be days and days before I come back online, depends on what is going on in RL. I really feel sorry for people (can include my DH is this too!) who feel the need to constantly check their FB page, to see who has said what, or done what.

FGS, what did we all do before all this social networking? we talked to people face to face, or we phoned them if we couldn't meet. there's definately a lot to be said for just not making yourself too available. I enjoy my anonymity thanks very much.

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 12:23

DP and ahfeckit not everyone feels as you do, thats the beauty of individualism, you dont have to use these sites, so dont, nobody is forcing you, just move on and live and let live a little

To assume folk who like this kind of mindless fun are all feckless bores with no rl friends is, imo, fuckwittedness in itself, the beauty of these things for me personally is that fact that they are brainless entertainment, is a stress free change and a way of switching off my brain after using my brain all day at work

Ledodgy · 16/02/2009 12:25

I agree VT. I do suprisingly have a life and lots of 'rl' friends.

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 12:28

Me too Ledodgy, i enjoyed checking fb and twitter and seeing the funny things my friends have written (maybe i just have witty friends ) i can assure you i am far from brainless and i have lots of rl friends that i see regularly

Ledodgy · 16/02/2009 12:28

I also think it's probably more boring going online to talk about why something is boring but that's just my opinion.

ahfeckit · 16/02/2009 12:32

that's the beauty of having an opinion, we don't always have to agree on everything (that includes facebook and twitter).

we'll agree to disagree, me thinks.

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 12:35

A guy i went to school with added me to his FB recently, we were chatting the other night(20 yrs since we last saw each other) it was great to catch up, he is now one of Britains top chefs and appearing on telly soon, owns a resturant and has invited me up there to try his menu, we would have never got back in touch if it were not for FB

Also a lot of my friends have move away, one lives in Oz now, another in Spain, i would probably not keep in touch if it were not for FB, i love looking through new pictures they put up and seeing how their dc have grown

But hey, i guess not everyone has interesting friends who they like to keep in touch with
