..........there, I have said it.

I HATE little cars with a passion previously reserved for dog walkers who fail to pick up dog poo............I have now got a new rant!!!

OMG, you drive along, feeling as tho you are scraping the road with your bum, feel small next to proper cars, teeny next to MPV's, teeny tiny next to 4x4, and impossibly insignificant next to trucks/lorries/juganauts.

and THEN, you cannot get out of the car looking all swish, you damn near have to ROLL out the car onto the pavement/road cos you are so near to the fucking floor.

I HATE little cars.

AND................

I HATE my DH's car even more, cos it leaks thru the fucking sun-roof and not only am I scraping the road with my bum, I am wet through too.

little cars should be scrapped, and we should all be given cars that make you feel like a real person.

rant over........I feel better now

Little cars are great, you can park em easily and fuel costs are low.

YABU!!!

If we all had little cars (for our little road system) there wouldn't be so much pollution nor gridlock.

JackBauer · 22/01/2009 09:20

I thought you meant matchbox cars, they are worse than lego for stepping on, adn when they are upside down you can't see the little bastards.

have never owned a little real car for exactly the reasons you have stated, so no YANBU

alphabetsoup · 22/01/2009 09:20

...except if you have 4 children and need (yes i am mindful..) to make a car journey. 1 x large car with medium emissions = better than 2 small cars each with low/medium emissions.

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 09:23

oh little match box cars are evil......they lie in wait until you are coming down the stairs and then suddenly drive out of their hiding parking spots and wait for you to tread on them and give them a great stunt fly down the stairs!!!!

little REAL cars are still evil tho...............and they can;t fit all my children in either!!!

claw3 · 22/01/2009 09:33

Ha ha!! i know exactly what you mean. I went from a Land Rover to a Fiesta, felt like i was driving a go cart!

Felt very small and insignificant, i want my POWER back

Divineintervention · 22/01/2009 09:36

I am powerful in my Grand Espace!! I too loathe little cars when fobbed off with one as a courtesy car to fit four children safely into .

BadMomma · 22/01/2009 09:37

I hate them too. The shite-mobile we bought is just detestable, makes me feel resentment towards it every time I see it. It was a compelte compromise car, we needed a big family car for us and the 3 little ones, so had to get rid of both "our" cars and get 1 family, 1 runaround.

I know we're really lucky to be able to run 2 cars, and this tiny abomination is saving us an absolute fortune on petrol, insurance, tax etc, but it costs me heavily in pride.

It's a 107 btw, in that nauseating shiny blue colour.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 22/01/2009 09:37

Yes, I agree.

I'm trying to get rid of my VW Polo for something with a boot that will be able to hold more than just DD's pram (which is the smallest pram on the market!)

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 09:40

I am having to use DHs little renault clio as our Chrysler Voyager is in getting mended (I wrapped it around a post in the hospital car park 2wks back, thanks to ice/cars parking too close and a little old lady trying to drive into my spot before I had vacated it!!).

it is not fun, and I feel very small in it, and not as tho I am in command of my driving.

oh, it is speedy tho.....takes off a tad quicker than I am used to!

OP posts:
mylifemykids · 22/01/2009 09:43

I think 'larger' people in little cars are hilarious! There's a VERY large man in my area who drives an old style mini and DH and I have (very childishly) taken to calling him 'shoe horn man'. I really have no idea how he gets in and out!

Divineintervention · 22/01/2009 09:44

psycho...Chrysler Grand Voyagers (I used to own one)are death traps. They get 1 star on NCAP.

youknownothingofthecrunch · 22/01/2009 09:46

YABU! I love my little car, I feel smug about the low emissions and ability to park in small spaces. I feel superior to all the stupidly sized cars who can't squeeze past vans who've stopped in the road. I laugh at all of you who are unable to get by, trapped in frustration, while I nip away through the traffic (of course if I'm behind you the laughter turns to swearing)

violethill · 22/01/2009 09:46

Hmmm not convinced.

If idiots weren't driving fuck-off big 4x4s then you wouldn't feel so insignificant would you?

I'm not saying all bigger cars are a bad thing, obviously when you have a few kids you need a family car. But there's a difference between sensible family size and fuck-off huge polluting tanks isn't there... I see a worrying number every doing the school run, and there's definitely a correllation between having a huge car and being a crap driver.

So while I think YANBU about your bum on the road, I would far rather see more small cars on the road, which to me says 'environmentally and economically aware' than 4x4s which say 'environmentally unfriendly, selfish, dangerous, and rubbish driver too!'

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 09:47

are they.............I knew they weren;t great, but not that bad!!

we had a previa before and it saved us in two nasty crashes.......I want one again but DH was not so keen. I do think that we will go back tho once finances are on an even keel again.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 22/01/2009 09:48

The safety thing is what worries me most about my shitty little car.

I'm getting a volvo soon.

OrmIrian · 22/01/2009 09:49

Ha ha!

I do agree about the sense of insecurity and being close to the ground. But I feel that all drivers should be forced to give up their big beasts and drive little cars. Cars should be only a neccessity and not a pleasure and used only when there is no other choice. Driving around in a tiny little tin can would sort that out soon enough. You'd soon see more people getting on to the trains and walking to the shops.

Quadrophenia · 22/01/2009 09:50

driving close to the ground is wicked, i have a big car but it is lowered for this very reason

OrmIrian · 22/01/2009 09:51

And.... have to say this.

If you drive a fuck-off great big car, please learn to park the bloody thing! I hate hate hate it when morons with big cars 'park' them almost in the middle of the road and slap bang in the middle of a space big enough for 2 cars because they can't judge the distance. Thankyou.

OrmIrian · 22/01/2009 09:51

Was there not a car called an Imp?

claw3 · 22/01/2009 09:53

Violethill - oooooooo get you, you little eco warrior, you!!

That 4x4 was for emergencies, you never know when you might cross pathes with a sheep who needs herding on the London roads

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 09:54

oh orm, I am a great parker......I get very riled when people up at school take up two spaces and then wont move up when a teeny car wants to also park, just because they then cliam they can;t get out again. just because I normally drive a big car does not mean I can;t park!

in fact, I can park better in my big car.......I have parking sensors (amd missing them I admit in this tincan car.......I have to actually use my mirrors!!!

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 22/01/2009 09:55

Parking sensors !

Madsometimes · 22/01/2009 09:56

Micra driver. Don't like big cars, little cars or medium sized cars. I do not like cars! (But I especially do not like big tank sized cars). Can you tell that I hate driving?

Madsometimes · 22/01/2009 09:57

My micra has parking sensors. No sneering from me!

youknownothingofthecrunch · 22/01/2009 09:58

Can I ask if there is a correlation between owning a big car and crashing it? DH and I have always chosen small cars and never crashed. Visibility is generally worse in a big car (I've driven other people's) IME, and obviously they take up more space (therefore making it statistically more likely they will hit something - she says with tongue in cheek), they are also less manouverable and so less able to get out of danger.

Now this is jokingly asked, but are you more likely to be in an accident if you have a big car?
