little cars are the spawn of the devil....................

..........there, I have said it.

I HATE little cars with a passion previously reserved for dog walkers who fail to pick up dog poo............I have now got a new rant!!!

OMG, you drive along, feeling as tho you are scraping the road with your bum, feel small next to proper cars, teeny next to MPV's, teeny tiny next to 4x4, and impossibly insignificant next to trucks/lorries/juganauts.

and THEN, you cannot get out of the car looking all swish, you damn near have to ROLL out the car onto the pavement/road cos you are so near to the fucking floor.

I HATE little cars.

AND................

I HATE my DH's car even more, cos it leaks thru the fucking sun-roof and not only am I scraping the road with my bum, I am wet through too.

little cars should be scrapped, and we should all be given cars that make you feel like a real person.

rant over........I feel better now

Not to the same extent. I can smoke a fag outside miles from anyone and do no harm (apart from to myself). I can't drive a car anywhere without adding to the sum total of excess carbon dioxide, monoxide, heavy metals etc in the environment as a whole.

I don't smoke as it happens. But I could. In theory.

IdrisTheDragon · 22/01/2009 11:15

There was a Hillman Imp I think

NotSoRampantRabbit · 22/01/2009 11:18

OrmIrian

There was indeed a Hillman Imp - my dad had one and used it to woo my mother.

I loved loved loved my old school Fiat 500 in blue with big pink flowers. It was the hottest thing on the streets of Naples by a long way.

Would love a new Fiat 500 - they are just so.......cuddly!

IdrisTheDragon · 22/01/2009 11:18

Here

My all time favourite car is this. I would love one.

I prefer smaller cars but our volvo is useful for filling with stuff.

NotSoRampantRabbit · 22/01/2009 11:18

x-posts Idris!

NotSoRampantRabbit · 22/01/2009 11:20

Idris that is just spooky - my dad also had an Austin Healey Sprite - in fact think it was the Sprite he used to do the wooing and then onto the Imp once my mum was in the bag so to speak.

Oblomov · 22/01/2009 11:32

I don't 'get' any of your reasons, OP. Honestly.

Oblomov · 22/01/2009 11:35

What makes of car classify as 'small', in your eyes, then ?

IdrisTheDragon · 22/01/2009 11:35

at Rabbit's dad.

MrsMattie · 22/01/2009 11:36

We have a small car and a bigger car. They both have their pluses and their drawbacks. Not really sure your OP makes much sense

I have never really suffered with 4x4 rage before, but recently watched a woman struggling to park an enormous Porsche Jeep in central London and did feel like screaming 'FFS, get a smaller car, you numpty!'

llareggub · 22/01/2009 11:42

To all those posters proclaiming that they can't see small cars, god help mere cyclists and pedestrians. Open your eyes and use your mirrors!

I have a Yaris and love it.
Don't like driving dh's big Merc.

llareggub · 22/01/2009 11:57

I've got a teeny tiny Fiat 500.

You drivers of big cars will never understand quite how far a tank of petrol can go!

I get the fight against 4x4s so many emmissions for few people, but people carriers are usually used by people with 3+ children needing car seats.

Lizzylou · 22/01/2009 12:11

I have only 2 DC, so no need for a big car.
We did used to get a Phil and Teds with doubles kit in the boot of my teeny car though, so no excuse there!

I do loathe those big car/4x4 drivers who can't park, look at you (if they can see you )like you have no right on the road and have zero spacial awareness. Drives me loopy. The school car park is a minefield, so bloody dangerous.

I did however long for a beast of a 4x4 when we got snow earlier this week and I was sliding everywhere and struggling to get up the hill

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 22/01/2009 12:21

YANBU - comfort and safety are a priority to me and generally bigger cars do better in both of these areas (please note the generally there!)

I've got a skoda fabia estate which I think is fab, DH ha a passatt estate which is ginormous and I struggle to park it as I can't see the front or the back of it very well!

Just an aside - we have a shopping street locally which is one way and cars parallel park either side of the road. One day I was down there and a smart car had reversed in boot first to the pavement so was at 90 degrees to all the other cars! Brilliant use of space, but it did make me laugh!

tumtumtetum · 22/01/2009 12:35

YABVU i love my nippy little car.

And I have noticed that people who drive tanks seem to be worse drivers as they are so big and important that everyone has to just get out of their way.

they can never park the bloody things.

When they drive at you when you're on foot you can't see the driver through the blacked out windows to give them a look.

And they are much better for running over small childen with - just 10 minutes ago someone in a tank nearly ran over my toddler. There is no chance of going over the bumper as it's too high so that's usually game over. People in little cars aren't so arrogant and don't think it's funny to scare pedestrians.

Plus the pollution and all that extra metal to build them etc they are obscene . Everyone should drive small cars.

veedub · 22/01/2009 13:32

Orm you need to come to the hills and dales and experience the thrill of real driving instead of towns and cities. If its town shopping i want, i will walk, if its driving pleasure i will take the HUGE chevy Camaro, or the vw beetle or the mustang and have more fun in an afternoon than in a lifetime of driving a micra.

wontbepreggersagain · 22/01/2009 13:42

oooh- i just run over little cars in my big car

daewoo matiz- now there's a car i don't get!! to small to fit a shoebox into.

sweetie66 · 22/01/2009 13:43

LOL Flaminhell, I drive a teeny smart car and I love parking in the carpark to make you think there is a space! I deliberately pull back as far as possible. I love my litle smart. My DD calls it the sweetie car. It is perfect as a run around for me and her. Then we also have a large Rover which is the family car. Wouldn't change mine for the world. I can fill it up for £20 and then run it for about a month before filling up again. £35 a year road tax. Shall I go on?????
Each to their own.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 22/01/2009 13:58

Have a super Mickey Micra for running about in - although we do fit 5 in quite frequently. Have an MPV too for when we have 6 up and stuff too for holidays etc. Prefer nipping about in Mickey as good fun and cheaper to run about, easier to park etc. DW wants to trade up for an Audi TT for more power and more street cred when parked in school.

psychomum5 · 22/01/2009 18:17

oblomov.........reasons for thread.....rant about having to drive DH's hidious car.

small car in my eyes.....one that I have to sit down into. My car that I normally drive I sit in, not down (IYGWIM).

oh, and also, a small car is shorter than me. a 'normal' (in my eyes( car is as tall as me.
