To want to change my mind and buy an x-box 360 just so I can play Guitar Hero?

DH has wanted one for ages. I have been a nag about not getting one, as I have seen many of my friends become x-box widows, and DH has a history of becoming heavily involved in on-line games, to the detriment of his long-suffering wife.

However, I have just played on our friend's Guitar Hero, and it is the most fun I have had in a long time!

DH and I have been talking, before this, about how we need to get some common things to do in the evenings, other than just tv, computer, mn! This would be perfect, we can play on our own (so I can get to be a rock chick and rock my friends into oblivion!), together, and we can play with our friends when they come over.

Am I mad? Will this pass? I really really really want it, and feel like such a turn-coat! DH does not mind that, but is finding it all rather amusing!

AIBU to want it?

I bought DP Rock Band for Christmas (same principle), we play it together, him on lead guitar, me on the drums. It's fantastic. Get it get it get it!

MillyR · 09/01/2009 20:26

I hate all computer games, but my ds got guitar hero world tour for christmas and I absolutely adore it. We all play it together: me, dh, ds and dd, as there are 3 instruments plus a singer.

YANBU!

noonki · 09/01/2009 20:27

YANBU at all

I tried DSS's guitar hero on his Nintendo DS and can't stop thinking about it

honestly think I am an instant addict.

We have just got a new mobile phone and I actually agreed to the wii as a freebie because I want to buy guitar hero for it

CarGirl · 09/01/2009 20:27

you could just get it for the playstation instead so no on line?

MillyR · 09/01/2009 20:28

Pavlov, under no circumstances must you let your dp buy Fable2, as that is very addictive and he will ignore you for a month!

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 20:50

cargirl - we had considered the wii as apparantly you can get it for that too, but soooooo expensive! Not that x-box 360 is cheap imo. DH is happier as he thinks that the 360 is a better machine in terms of engineering or whatever, thinks it is much superior.

MillyR - I was addicted to Fable on our old X-box! But that was about it. Although I have some hardened x-box friends who say Fable2 is not so good, has some gliches. BUT they are the type that do ALL the quests a million times to get those secret thingy bobbies!

I got to the end of a song in my 3rd attempt, was very impressed with myself AND I did that jiggly thing with the bar a couple of times. DD aged 2 was stood in front of DH when he had a go, no prompting, headbanging and being a 'groupie' ROFL! .

Rock Band - do you have a link to that? Is is similar then?

My friend and I got sloshed one memorable night and ended up being Axl and Slash on Guitar Hero, to our dh's amuaement and our ds' mortal horror

moondog · 09/01/2009 20:56

How doesi t let you play guitar?

LoveMyLapTop · 09/01/2009 20:59

I bought DH guitar hero on Wii for Xmas. The only one who is addicted is

Me

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 20:59

at ladymariner!

So, I am sensing that this is a good idea...how do i know which one to get? I played yesterday, we played a few tracks including Beat It - michael Jackson, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins...

(Oh, and something a bit technical, you might not know, or you might. Our music 'surround' is an Apple Ipod Stereo. We use this to listen to the tv through too. Can we use this for x-box? I mean, would we unplug the TV and input the x-box? Oh don't worry, not sure I know what I am asking!!!!)

you are so not being unreasonable!
go the whole hog tho and get rock band
its amazing

ladymariner · 09/01/2009 21:03

Can't help you on the technical side, but oh yes pavlov, it is such a good idea to get one!!!

differentID · 09/01/2009 21:04

go for it. I don't have it yet as I've not found a price I want to pay
My absolute fave game is Oblivion- great for some stress relief

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 21:04

Moondog - you have a guitar which is programmed to the x-box, on this guitar there is a 'strummer' to strum with the right hand (if right handed), and at the top instead of 4/6strings, there are coloured buttons. On the screen, there is a prompt, in time that tells you what colours to press, and when to play the guitar rift for the tune you pick. You can get to do long feeds[?} double strings (colours) and there is a bar that you can wang like a proper rock chick....the harder the song/you choose the setting, the more notes you have to play.

Its also motion sensitive, so if you are proper rocklike and throw the guitar around as well you get extra points and the crowd goes wild. If you are shit, you get booed off stage.

The music is actual music, not musac, so you get to listen to great tunes AND have fun!

Is rock band better then? I only see the point in buying the best, if I am gonna spend a fortune, there is no point scrimping now!

MillyR · 09/01/2009 21:06

guitar hero world tour is equivalent to rock band; it has guitar, drums and mic for vocals plus some boxes you get free bass also. There are pros and cons to which is better, rb or gh, but I think the differences are minimal really. I would google for comparisons between the two before buying.

twoluvlykids · 09/01/2009 21:07

I Bought Guitar Hero for PS3 for DS - I'm rubbish and go boo-ed off, but DS is brilliant on it (he's a drummer, anyway)

Actually, I bought Rock Band for the Wii, but it was the wrong one, so had to change it on Boxing Day

Bad Mother Alert on Christmas Day, I can tell you....I'd never felt so bad....

twoluvlykids · 09/01/2009 21:08

btw, guitar hero world tour and rock band are the same price in argos, for wii, ps3 and xbox

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 21:09

I know the one my friend has was Guitar Hero, with the option to buy other instruments, as I recognise the guitar in the picture! Maybe I should just buy that as I enjoyed playing that one?

Oh gosh do not confuse me now! I am so bad at buying things as I start comparing, then get all stressed and worried about which one to get then usually end up buying the wrong one!!! I should just go and buy it, be done with it eh?

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 21:11

twoluvlykids - but the consoles are a different price? I don't even have a console yet!!! I have to buy the whole lot!

OP posts:
harleyd · 09/01/2009 21:12

go and get it!

giddykipper · 09/01/2009 21:12

This is Rock Band, all the usual places like Game and HMV sell it. It's just the same as Guitar Hero, I bought it though because you can get an ACDC 'game' for it which you can't get on Guitar Hero.

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 21:14

oh giddy - thats a big problem....DH is a big ACDC fan . He would love to pretend he was in ACDC! But its much more expensive than Guitar Hero isn't it? Can you just buy the guitar for it, then buy the other instruments as you go along?

OP posts:
twoluvlykids · 09/01/2009 21:15

Ah - didn't know that! No idea on console prices, we've had wii since last summer, & DS bought his own PS3 console with birthday/christmas/paper round money. I know it was mega bucks, though, & I wasn't happy about him having it.

MillyR · 09/01/2009 21:15

You can't get the wrong one! Pros and cons are tiny, although I would argue for guitar hero being better. They were both developed by the same team originally anyway. I am so addicted I am considering buying rock band as well so that I can play an additional range of songs!
