To want to change my mind and buy an x-box 360 just so I can play Guitar Hero?

DH has wanted one for ages. I have been a nag about not getting one, as I have seen many of my friends become x-box widows, and DH has a history of becoming heavily involved in on-line games, to the detriment of his long-suffering wife.

However, I have just played on our friend's Guitar Hero, and it is the most fun I have had in a long time!

DH and I have been talking, before this, about how we need to get some common things to do in the evenings, other than just tv, computer, mn! This would be perfect, we can play on our own (so I can get to be a rock chick and rock my friends into oblivion!), together, and we can play with our friends when they come over.

Am I mad? Will this pass? I really really really want it, and feel like such a turn-coat! DH does not mind that, but is finding it all rather amusing!

AIBU to want it?

Jimmy - great news he is back on Sunday. We should definitely have met up in the eves, we could have had the prisoners held captive together! I am still jetlagged. Could not sleep last night, went to bed a 2am, and I felt soooooo awful this morning. DH got up took one look at me, sent me back to bed. I woke up at 12:30pm to a note saying they had gone to the beach!!!

I LOVE Enter Sandman - I might have to buy that one too!!! I don't think the World Tour has Metallica on at all?

No I don't think it does. We only got world tour yesterday but we've not come across metallica yet.

MillyR · 09/01/2009 22:13

Metallica -trapped under ice is on world tour according to the gh website. I can't remember any more Metallica being on, but that is probably because the Metallica special is being released really soon.

The track list that it shows you when you first turn it on is not the full track list; it gives you more choice as you progress.

Stonehenge · 09/01/2009 22:13

Then again, it does have a metallica video on it so maybe you can unlock them?

Stonehenge · 09/01/2009 22:13

x-post again, soz.

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 22:30

MillyR/stonehenge - ooh I am v v v v v excited now...Moondog - you want to join me in purchasing one? Or else I shall invite you round for a jam!

We could have MN play offs, see who can get the highest scores, best streams etc!

Pavlov, I would be elbowing you out of the way and geetting ridiculously silly.

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 22:52

No because you can bring over the drum kit and we can share or, you can pour/drink wine/mosh while its my turn, and I will do the same when its your turn. And if you did elbow me out of the way, well then you would be a proper rock chick then surely

i would go for a ps3 rather than the 360..i know they are a lot more expensive...we traded our 360 in for the ps3 because of the dreaded "ring of death" on the 360. (its a manufacturing fault that affects no end of 360s..kills it off and cant be mended, has to go back to manufacturer..but it is replaced) the ps3 has all the attributes that the 360 has..and some (including a blu ray player..the new dvds!) its hd ready, you can play dvds, music, load photos into it etc etc. it has not long ago released "home" which the 360 also has (its an online community)
also the ps3 has little big planet..which is one of the best games ive played in donkeys!!
if you look around you might be able to find a deal where you get the game you want with the console you want.
having said that if you have dc, id get the wii (we have one of them too!!) then it can be more of a family thing, both the ps3 and 360 are quite adult gamers based!! (lots of killing and swearing and stuff!!)

PavlovtheCat · 09/01/2009 23:33

OH! lea ! I am glad you told me about that. My friend had this happen to her !!! DH had just used it so she thought he had buggered it up somehow (she NEVER lets anyone touch hers, her and her DH have one each...exactly) until she sent it off.

Problem is ALL our friends has either x-box, ir WII, majority x-box and go online. DH would not consider anything other than those two . I agree with x-box being adult gamer based. That was my main issue with getting it. DH is a gamer at heart (everquest, AO, all that) and that really appeal to him on x-box, he misses it. BUT when he gets hooked on on-line it can be relationship destroying, which was my hesitation around x-box this time, where the WII has lots of fun games rather than 'shootemups'. But it boils down to cost right now, ad he promised me he wont get online yet.

This HOME thing? Does that mean you could talk/play same games as friends who are playing on x-box?

Pavlov, if your dp does convince you to get xbox live for your 360 then you could even form an MN band, with people in different locations all playing in the same band. It is a great team game!

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2009 00:04

Can we?!!!! Oh do not let me get started! Oh now I am more excited than before! Watch this space ladies (although that means going online, which I am dubious about)

We need to think of a name for our band though...I wont tell DH that bit right now though, wait til we get it!!!

OP posts:
MillyR · 10/01/2009 00:11

Yes, at first you might want your dp to believe it is a game you are going to play together, rather than tell him you are already being headhunted for a Mum's rockband.

Are you intending to be a guitarist in the game? Do you think you will get two guitars so that you and dp can play at the same time? I play bass (in the game, not in RL) and I think vocalist is the most difficult to do. I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few mums play drums because their child wants to do the lead guitar. As it is my son's game, we have to let him play lead. (we are meant to be adults, after all!)

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2009 01:03

Luckily for us DD is only 2 so she will have to wait her turn! She wanted a go though 'my turn mummy'! I think to start with we will both do guitar. DH has a guitar, but can't play a thing! So he wants to do guitar. And me too! We might get 2, or get the drums. I cannot sing, nor can DH! We might give that bit a miss!

I work with primary kids, my partner works with secondary school kids....the game rocks! (the wii is awesome too).

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2009 15:23

We got it! DH is just setting it up now as we speak!
We got the x-box console, 3 games plus a second wireless controller for £144.98. And the Guitar Hero: World Tour Solo Guitar for £59. (plus we got insurance for £20, which covers accidental damage including controllers, thought that sensible with a 2yo!).

So you might not find me on MN this evening

I didnt know there were so many versions of guitar hero and all the way till christmas i worried i had bought legends of rock. But as i had already wrapped it, and couldnt be arsed to check, i just crossed my fingers and luckily i had bought world tour

I only bought the guitar version cos our front room is tiny, but now i've decided i want to get the drum kit and mic too. I'm obsessed!!

NotQuiteCockney · 10/01/2009 21:17

Ok. First, you want to look at this. It lets you know what instruments can be shared between games on various platforms. Xbox360 is the best for being able to use one set of (drums, guitar, whatever) across different games. Wii is the worst (helpfully, that's what I have.)

Second, rock band and Guitar Hero World Tour are basically the same. But the rock band guitars suck. They're just really fiddly and annoying. The GH ones are much much better. I'm wavering about which drum kit is better, but I suspect the GH one is, too. (I haven't played drums that much on GH.) (Yes, we have both games, both drum kits, four guitars. Very sad, I know, but also lots of fun.)

NotQuiteCockney · 10/01/2009 21:19

Oh, one giant fecking hassle with GHWT - so far, you can't buy the guitar and the game and then buy the rest later. If you want the drums, you need to buy the whole sodding kit at once (game, drums, mike, and a guitar). Maybe this will change, over time (you can buy just the drums for Rock Band, I think).

lunavix · 10/01/2009 21:21

LOL

I have guitar hero on my wii and I've decided I want an xbox so i can play it live against other people!

PavlovtheCat · 11/01/2009 22:20

Yesterday, we had 3 friends come over. One of my friends has this game so he brought his guitar over too, so we played guitar and bass together. WE ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!! It was fab fab fab. Until I had too many Manhattans then I struggled to see the two seperate music sheets, they stayed until the wee hours.

Then I got up this morning, and at 10:30am, we went back on it. And have been playing it all day . One of our friends who came around last night forgot his bag, so returned to collect it, and stayed for 3 hours playing with us again!!!! Poor DD, she watched dvds, and generally got relegated to the sidelines today (did her good as she is very tired so needed to rest, thats what I am telling myself!).

I have been playing in easy mode, and today I started Medium for some songs - I can do Everlong (foofighters), the Janes Addiction one (can't remember the name) and Smashing Pumkins all in medium level.

It is so addictive!

PavlovtheCat · 11/01/2009 23:16

HAHAHAHA, we turned it off. For 2 hours.

Its now back on. Shame, I have to go to bed as I have to work tomorrow.... Oh, just one go.
