Another post is getting on my nerves a bit - i hate the fact that because of our jobs (vocation whatever...) we have to be society's keepers and society's bitch. It truly pisses me off.

OP posts:

I'm tired and I'm going to bed. But this christmas, whiney people on MN - please give teachers a chance, shower them with lovely gifts, and refrain from complaining about all things totally irrelevant to your children's education. Small puppies and teachers everywhere will be grateful...

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 22:13

what? I annoy you? I don't really understand your last thread. Do you hate me or seomthing?

FairyMum · 17/12/2008 22:14

It worries me that some teachers on here think that not smoking outside the school gates equal perfection.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:15

Luckily, so far, the two they've had are absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't have a bad word to say about either of them.

One of them puts an apostrophe in to Wednesday's and Friday's, but I have not reported him. I did put a tiny blob of Tipp-Ex on the note and popped it back into the homwork folder though.

I've taken slack for my job. I used to breed mice without pancreases so I could test powerful new drugs on them! I won't tell you about my new project.

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 22:16

flack

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:16

HOmework folder I mean. HOM studies are on Tuesday's

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:18

My MIL, FIL, brother, SIL and many friends are teachers - they all have their lives but they are all conscious to live away from the school at which they teach in order to do this.

My brother always says that it wouldnt feel right getting drunk in a local with his students parents around.

sorry I don't even know how I posted twice. Good job I am not a teacher!

undervalued · 17/12/2008 22:20

I work in a tough secondary school - infamous actually - inner city, economically deprived and all the rest. For the most part it is inspirational. Most of these kids live with seriously vile issues, yet still try to understand Shakespeare and feel sad when they read war poetry.
I wish they had such petty shite to get all het up about. Go out, make friends - before you burst with pointless stress Liffey.
I gave up smoking (yes, I know this thread is about other stuff) because I hated them seeing me smoking. I felt bad. I still go out with friends while they smoke but feel ever so pious.

combustiblelemon · 17/12/2008 22:21

YANBU. FFS it wasn't a crack pipe.

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 22:23

I'll pass on teh love bomb, thanks

But what about goldilocks? I didn't have a clue what she was saying to me.

blondehelen · 17/12/2008 22:24

I take flack in my job as a nurse too. But when I worked at a hospital you didn't see nurses smoking outside the hospital in full view. (generally hiding behind a tree or a bin!!) Its about professionalism

That said, I have great admiration for teachers. Yesterday dc school put on an evening performance of the KS1 play, so teachers would not have been home before 9 and tonight KS2 had their carol concert and again all teachers their til gone 8. These teachers have young children of their own and commit extra time for my children.
I must confess to moaning about the decision to finish at 1pm Friday just cos it was late notice and I had to arrange childcare, but I will be going out tomorrow to buy wine and chocolates for my dc teachers!!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:26

I thought I was going to be accused of name-changing to call you annoying! no idea what that was about either!

How's my aura pointy? I'll be up half the night worryign that there's brown in my aura again.

FabioHasBirtdaiTiemForCaik · 17/12/2008 22:26

I own a teacher.
She doesn't smoke.
But she locked me in a cage.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:29

wow, don't let me near anything in a cage!! I might just remove her ovaries/pancreas, who knows?

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 22:29

hey there, little lolcats fan!

poinsettydog · 17/12/2008 22:30

not brown, red

SniffyHock · 17/12/2008 22:31

I was a blody good teacher. I only ever smoked when I was a teacher. I will never go back to it and am full of admiration for anyone in the profession. Smoking is not illegal!!!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 17/12/2008 22:41

I'm sure I'm green.

gabygirl · 17/12/2008 22:44

"I take flack in my job as a nurse too"

Yes - but have you ever had to deal with 30 patients at once, of whom 2 are giving you the finger, one's calling you a bitch under his breath, 4 are refusing to sit down and take off their coats, one's shouting 'Oi - piss off you gay twat' at another boy on the other side of the room, and 5 are texting on their phones instead of doing the work you've asked them to do three times?

That sort of scenario was something I dealt with several times a day, when I had the dubious pleasure of taking bottom set year 9 for English. And then I'd have to try to teach them Shakespeare...... On a Friday afternoon.

Top that for torture!

gabygirl · 17/12/2008 22:49

DH remembers his primary school teacher smoking.

IN THE CLASSROOM

Those were the days.......

FairyMum · 17/12/2008 22:53

Gabygirl, nursing is a very hard profession. I really think teachers need to get out there and person do some job-shadowing in other professions. You do really seem to think teaching is the hardest job. I am sure its hard, but comparing yourself to nurses the way you do in your post. Do you have any idea!
