If that's the case RambleOn then why do they shave you just before you go in for a c/s?

cilverangel · 19/12/2008 10:03

REALLY GET RID OF THAT LOT!!! ITS FOR HYGIENIC PURPOSES DURING BIRTH

IF NOT THE WAX TRY ANOTHER METHOD OKI

Ghenaphur · 19/12/2008 11:12

I say if you usually wax anyway go for it. I did it with my first but I am a regular waxer. It will be a bit more painful as you have more blood in the area but if you take paracetamol an hour before it will help.

God forbid if they need to make an incision it will at the very least be a clean surface and you won't need to be shaved during labour.

DO NOT SHAVE - bumps nicks and itchy regrowth is NOT what you need while you are recovering.

I for one totally understand your feelings and you should not be made to feel ashamed of it.

VirginBoffinMum · 19/12/2008 11:50

I think on refelection feminism is dead if people are feeling they have to do this to themselves.

I remain hirstute and proud.

expatinscotland · 19/12/2008 11:53

'I think on refelection feminism is dead if people are feeling they have to do this to themselves.

I like doing this to myself. It's my body and I don't see how that means it's anti-feminist to wax/hair remove.

For me, at least, it's a cultural thing.

I'm Latina, and many Latinas aren't very hairy people because of the native Indian blood in them.

To me, that's appealing. That's what I see as attractive. I don't like men with hairy chests or lots of body hair or facial hair. I just don't.

But my mother is half-French and as a result I'm quite hairy.

I don't like it and never did, especially in a hot climate. It's sweaty and not comfortable.

I just prefer how I look without a bunch of body hair, especially as my skin is naturally very fair and my hair very dark.

angelgabriel · 19/12/2008 12:29

Blimey I feel like I'm missing out on some womanly ritual. I'm fairly hirsuit and always kept a natural bush with a little trim round the edges when I go swimming...

My mum is a practice nurse, formerly a midwife - she had a woman come in for a smear with glittery bits! Honestly though I've never heard her comment on the hairiness or otherwise of her patients, although she did tell me to shave my legs before giving birth first time round!

Honestly the last thing you'll be thinking of/worrying about when giving birth is the state of your muff.

bleh · 19/12/2008 12:35

'I think on refelection feminism is dead if people are feeling they have to do this to themselves'

What about getting men (particularly those of the very hairy back [boak]) to remove hair? Is that then a very said reflection on masculanism? Some might argue it's a sad reflection on the state of the masculinity, but I doubt they'd be accused of ruining it for everyone.

pushchair · 19/12/2008 12:39

personally think the hollywood looks gross
Wonder who decided a 'landing strip' was a good design.
The American of the wiki pics looked best to me-neat and good for bikinis/swimming etc without being toally IMO over the top.
I feel clean and womanly and have a full bush. Never occurred to me to trim or anything for birth as was sure that midwives would have seen everything before. Had tears and episiotomies and no problem with hair.
Please do not judge others on what they choose to do with pubes. Tis a personal choice.

VirginBoffinMum · 19/12/2008 14:22

Also another feminist argument - isn't de-bushing yourself really about reverting to a childlike pubeless state, just like dieting to minimise your curves and suit current fashions is really about developing the appearance of a lean adolescent male?

Are women now so scary that we are effectively being forced to become children in a man's world once again?? Is this why they want to yummy mummy us and get us in pink fluffy cardigans once again, cooking 1950s buns like Nigella, instead of challenging them as equals??

expatinscotland · 19/12/2008 14:24

i've never dieted in all my life. ever.

i exercise as much as i can to a) help my depression b) keep my hypertension in check c) be healthy so i can be there for my kids.

i've been sportive since i was 3 years old and started ballet.

i don't like having lots of body hair. so i wax it off.

i don't see that as tied to who i am as a woman.

it's a personal preference and i've been doing it for years and years, long before it became fashionable.

ScaredOfEverything · 19/12/2008 17:27

"I think on refelection feminism is dead if people are feeling they have to do this to themselves."

Goodness me, I started this thread as lighthearted, but I really do find that statement completely ridiculous.

I went for a fairly brutal wax before DD1, however DD2 was born au natural at home (by accident), and out of the two experiences, I have to say, the only one with any issues was the beauty therapist.

Lushly verdant, bare as a badger - tbh, it only matters BEFORE the actual crucifying agony.

flaminhell · 19/12/2008 17:46

Oh Jesus, get it tided up, a snip and a brush, Brazilian seems a little desperate, like hey I might be giving birth, and pushing out a 8lb bambino, but I still got it, LOL!!

VirginBoffinMum · 19/12/2008 19:40
VirginBoffinMum · 19/12/2008 19:41

Sorry, should have read Andrea Dworkin there. Can't type.

zazen · 19/12/2008 23:44

That's OK VBM, none of us can type either when putting on dungarees!

I would tidy up a bit, a trim if waxing is contraindicated - just in case you have a section. That's all - and also to be more hygenic with the lochia and fluids etc after wards, cos there's nothing worse than sitting for hours and hours breastfeeding and stinking of old blood - and if you need stitches, they don't sew your hair into the wound, and get in infected. Basic common sense stuff.

I also have dark hair ExPat, and when I don't get a colour from the sun in the ?? summer ?? I really notice my dark dark hair, and it's long and strong also - must be the chocolate percentage, or the Shakespeare - if hairs be wires etc etc.

My Mum's family was originally from Northern France - does that count in your book

zazen · 19/12/2008 23:49

Never thought the back crack and sack wax was humane TBH, but then I chose a practically hairless mate - he just has thick hair on his head, and fine hair on his legs and forearms. The rest of him is pretty silky

Dd has my hair pattern (poor thing) and even has whorls of very very fine hair, like a horse can have! I'll bring her to have her legs waxed at 16.

expatinscotland · 19/12/2008 23:51

i take a good tan, zazen, although i burn easily if i'm not careful. i'm just that yellow in undertone to get away with it.

i just like how it looks.

i dunno.

i don't like really hairy blokes. i just don't.

Ronaldinhio · 19/12/2008 23:53

depends if your dp is filming the birth for youporn

are you getting big fake acrylic nails and some see through high heels?

Ronaldinhio · 19/12/2008 23:55

also consider very dark lipliner and some pale pink lipstick

twizzler · 19/12/2008 23:59

I had a bikini wax and pedicure with only a week to go before my due date.

Don't think there is anything wrong with it if it makes you feel, shall we say "neater".

I did however, go into labour that night. Could have been the shock of having pubes ripped out.

chefswife · 20/12/2008 01:40

i was going to have a brazilian at 37 weeks but i gave birth instead...

smallone · 20/12/2008 09:51

I didn't want the hairless look but did want to tidy up, so used DHs hairclippers with a No3 guard on. A bit gross I know. No chance of cutting yourself and you're guaranteed an even look without being able to see what you're doing properly!

I would recommend doing something if you're very overgrown coz its easier to keep clean afterwards.

I had an EMCS and wasn't shaved at all. But had acrylic nails on so they had to remove my toenail varnish to put on my blood oxygen thing. I then realised how long my toenails were and was completely mortified! Had to get DH to bring nail clippers in on next visit! Didn't care one jot about the number of people newly aquainted with my fanjo tho!

smallone · 20/12/2008 09:58

Just read previous post and would like to make it clear that I was not being filmed, nor was I wearing heels or make up
