Im 37 weeks. My ladygarden is a mess. I cant even see it anymore. So, am I?

When I was being stitched up post birth the midwife stitching me said, 'I can't see the wood for the trees here'.

Not quite sure what she meant but I hadn't done much of a 'tidy up' and so was a bit embarassed when my DH kept repeating the story to all and sundry.

She could have just meant that there was a lot of blood etc but needless to say next time I will be more thorough...

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 16/12/2008 14:17

I normally have brazilian anyway.... when i got to about 6mths pg with DC's i couldn't bare the pain of waxing anymore so shaved from then on... would only do it once a week and had to get in some funny positions to do it, would alwasy get cramp and cry but i hate having hair there as it feels yuk to me... dont know why, but i've been hairless down there for nearly 7 years so maybe thats why!!

I'm 5mths pg and already given up on waxing this time and shaving it... got cramp 2 nights ago trying to shave in the shower- darn this bump being in the way already!!!

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 16/12/2008 14:21

All I can think is that you are better having it before rather than after .

But I'm not sure that will help!

ummadam · 16/12/2008 14:21

If it makes you feel better then a trim is better than anything more painful! With my doctors hat on PLEASE don't worry about what anyone else in the room will think - if they changed the labour ward documentation to include a question on the mum's topiary we would probably have to go back in afterwards and check because with everything else to concentrate on it doesn't get a look in You can look like you were dragged through a hedge backwards, shout and swear at me, poo, bleed and vomit on me and I'll still have seen worse 5minutes after it is all over you will look great with that new mummy glow anyway

idontbelieveit · 16/12/2008 14:21

If you cut yourself you increase the chance of getting a horrid infection in hospital. I wouldn't do it.

littlelyn · 16/12/2008 14:27

plinkplinkfizzpops - you made me PMSL!!

Neeerly3 · 16/12/2008 14:29

I do my own, but use Gilette Breeze razors, the ones with inbuilt strips of shave gel. I have been bald as a coot for 7 years now, so just do it all by feel. However last night DH came in to brush his teeth while I was pruning and asked why I was bleeding everywhere......I shall be asking him to do it from now on!

I know during labour the state of my nether regions will be of no concern to anyone, least of all me, but I hate the stubble feel, so like to keep on top of the trimming!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:29

i looked lovely during this delivery.

bled like a stuck pig, though, and there was so much 'bloody lycum' on the floor (whatever that is), the midwives had to get a mop - whilst the consultant stitched me up.

and threw up bile all over the bed 3 times - needed two lots of that get-the-placenta out drug and it made me sick (on top of epidural).

but i looked good!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:30

get an electric lady shaver and use the mirror or have your DH do it.

no cuts.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 16/12/2008 14:30

I'd have been appalled if a mw said that to me. I would make sure nothing showed if I were on a beach with a bikini on, I'm not a beast, but at 9 months pregnant, NO WAY ON EARTH would I have had the inclination to undergo a brazilian for the sake of hospital staff!!!!!

noonki · 16/12/2008 14:31

oh don't

Brazilians just look weird (not the people mind, my ex was from Rio and he was pretty fit!)

PotPourri · 16/12/2008 14:32

Go to a beautician and ask for a tidy up. Personally don't think brazilian is the way to go. A tidy around the edges will make you feel neater. But seriously, it is the least of your worries - and you do NOT want to have maintenance to worry about.

Can your DP do a trim to thin down and then round the edges to as short as he can get it - then no regrowth or itching to worry about at all.

georgimama · 16/12/2008 14:33

Do it but the midwife will tell everyone about the crazy lady with the Brazilian.

wideratthehips · 16/12/2008 14:33

i used to do my own home hot waxing (legs and bikini area) and tried to continue whilst pregnant but it was extremely painful and i seemed to bruise.

ummadam · 16/12/2008 14:34

expatinscotland - sorry off topic but in case you were interested 'bloody liquor' (pronounced ly-kor so lycum very close) liquor is a general term for the liquid around the baby (mainly the amniotic fluid but all the other gunk too) and tends to get a bit blood stained when it comes out since there is so much around

wideratthehips · 16/12/2008 14:35

exactly.......your more likely to draw attention than anything else!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:37

thanks, um! i wondered what she meant by that.

i couldn't feel it, of course, having had an epi, but i could hear it hitting the floor.

i didn't get to hold DS straightaway because his heart rate had been decelerating with the contractions (hence the ventouse) and he had cord round his neck a couple of times so he went straight to teh paed after birth, so by the time i got him he wasn't very gunky at all.

oh, OP, if you do get the lady shaver and you have a 'graze', avoid lady shaving it for a bit .

like i said, 6 weeks on from my third delivery and second time with a graze and i still have to tread very carefully in that area.

but i'm back to waxing otherwise!

i love my Bliss wax and wax warmer.

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:39

another idea is to try waxing on say, your arm - the forearm is a good one to start with because it's not very sensitive as far as wax goes - and see how it feels.

if it's total OUCH, then Brazilian is probably not a good idea.

littlelyn · 16/12/2008 14:43

OMG - I'm due to have my coil checked tomorrow and until reading this thread I hadn't given the state of my fanjo a second thought!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:44

I'm due to have a sterilisation in February.

My Brazilian will again be on full display .

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 16/12/2008 14:45

and however much it hurts your arm, multiply that by about four hundred million and that'll be about how much it'll hurt your fanjo!

Olifin · 16/12/2008 14:46

ButIForgetMysElf,

I fear your DP may be on for a shock at the birth!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:46

a lot of it depends on the skill of the technician, too.

if you get someone who's not fast or who makes the wax a touch too hot, it'll hurt.

noonki · 16/12/2008 14:49

expat - i seriously don't get why women do that to themselves...

I hate to say it but it always reminds me of little girls bits, not a woman's.
