How about having a nice pattern waxed in or the babys name, give the midwifes something to talk about!

ElectraInExcelsis · 16/12/2008 14:50

I do my own as well, and I agree with Expat - it is quite painful the first time but becomes less so the more you do it. But I hate having hair down there - it is very uncomfortable after you have become used to a nice clean waxed finish.

treacletart · 16/12/2008 14:51

don't bother. Like you i thought my nether reions were likely to get more attention from more people then they're ever likely to again so they ouught to look tidy! But i investigated and apparantly it hurts a lot more than usual when you're pregnant. I actually discussed between gas and air puffs with the male nurse while he was stitching me up afterwards who may have just been being polite but said that it was unusual to meet anything other than a "wild" ladygarden in his line of work! My mate who's a gp concurs.

wintercitylover · 16/12/2008 14:51

It's ironic isn't it because I am sure my mum told me that women were routinely shaved by hospital staff before childbirth several years ago (50's/60s) then this was seen as demeaning and controlling so the practice stopped.

Maybe they should re-introduce it - might be doing people a service.

I speak as someone who now likes to keep that area hair free and don't feel I am compromising any feminist ideals in doing so lol. It just feels more hygienic to me plus makes me feel more sexy.

Not that I'm getting much atm.

Plan to change that soon.

ButIForgetMysElf · 16/12/2008 14:52

Olifin,

I don't think he's going to know what's hit him! This is the man who can't stay in the same room as me when I'm having a blood test... but is insistent he'll be fine at the birth. Bless him!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 14:56

because i have a LOT of hair down there, nooki, and i don't like it.

that's why i do it and always have.

i come from a hot climate and being really hairy, it's sweaty and uncomfortable.

i had a 'landing strip', not a hollywood.

but when i started doing it, i liked to wear skimpy clothes and get a tan. again, i have lived in places that are hot climates or have hot summers at the least most of my life.

and being super hairy simply isn't a good look with that.

Boobz · 16/12/2008 15:12

I have had brazillians for 5 years and have never looked back. I have just had one to last me until a couple of weeks before I am due and then I will have another one, as it does matter to me what it looks like down there during birth. I know you all say I won't care, and I'm sure you're right, but I care enough now to plan for it.

So I so go for it. I don't get itchy regrowth, so no problems there. DH gets waxed too but that's a whole other ball game.

xx

Boobz · 16/12/2008 15:13

Ha ha - no pun intended!

Simplysally · 16/12/2008 15:37

Bikini razors are the little ones you can get next to the Veet etc. They're quite blunt so it's hard to cut yourself with them but they do thin out the hair as well as shortening it. Best if you use them like a brush, going downwards.

Highlander · 16/12/2008 15:44

I kept up with my fanjo waxing when preggers with both DSs. Much nicer when you bleed like a stuck pig afterwards.

harpsiheraldangelssing · 16/12/2008 15:46

lolololol at the idea that midwives or anyone else gives a flying carrot about the state of your pubes...

Boobz · 16/12/2008 15:50

Argh - Harpsiherald - that's not the point. We don't care what OTHERS think it's what WE think that matters!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 16/12/2008 16:03

But then, why do people do it 'for the birth'?

Zebraa · 16/12/2008 16:10

I maintained and a waxed area through pregnancy and had my last one at 38 1/2 weeks and I am pregnant with my second and still maintain a waxed area now.

I just cannot tolerate hair down there if I am honest.

In answer to your question, not at all - it's simply personal preference.

hannahlouhoo · 16/12/2008 16:32

I had my first lady garden wax at 39 weeks pregnant, along with leg and under arm! Also has a pedicure and reki( dont think it did anything but was relaxing!!) If i have another one i'll be doing the same again! Made me feel amazing and really positive i had a great labour and delivery.

I didnt do it for anyone but myself!

Go for it you wont have any chance to relax or time you yourself soon! If i have more money next time i'll book a spa day and have the works again!!

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 16:40

because they want to feel they're best for the birth, liffey, and for some, that includes what they decide is looking their best.

i don't like being hairy at all. i wax all over except for my head, of course.

i work out regularly, keep my toe and fingernails polished, straighten and dye my hair, get it cut, wear makeup every day, etc.

i do it all for ME, too. because it boosts my mood and helps me feel good.

Boobz · 16/12/2008 17:20

well said Expat. I think a well maintained lady garden says a lot about a person. I for one can't stand hairy bushes (but then I know that's just my opinion and it doesn't matter for toffee what I think apart from when it comes to my bits!)

xx

MadameCheese · 16/12/2008 17:26

You could even have a bit of anal bleaching done to top it all off . BTW I had waxing done during pregnancy without problem, just have a bog standard wax though not a brazilian...

shatteredmumsrus · 16/12/2008 17:29

Dont laugh but what beautiful pattern on your grass is a brazilian?

combustiblelemon · 16/12/2008 17:31

Nada, zilch, all gone.

MumtoCharlieandLola · 16/12/2008 17:31

Don't do it. I did !

It KNACKS !!!!!!!

Tell you why, apparently there is more blood flowing around that reason due to the baby and therefore your pain receptors are more active. Its the same reason why you shouldn't get a bikini line done during your period (yuk, not that I would)

So, unless you want something mildly akin to the pain of childbirth just before the real thing. DONT DO IT. Embrace your hairy mary and live with it.

combustiblelemon · 16/12/2008 17:34

I long for a full 70s bush in the winter, but after years of pruning it doesn't really grow much if left. I'll have to buy a merkin.

shatteredmumsrus · 16/12/2008 17:34

Ouch itchy - dont think i could stand it. I have a really old fashioned childbirth book (Miriam Stoppard if anyone has it)and there is a picture of the worlds harriest fanny giving birth, it looked likethe baby had a perm!Groce!!! Personally id just tidy it up!

GentleOtter · 16/12/2008 17:34

One of the midwives did mine with a razor while I was on the table minutes before the section. She said she had written her initials.
I would not have cared if an entire football team had signed their full names at that stage.

Use Immac - it is fairly pain free.

shatteredmumsrus · 16/12/2008 17:35

I use Veet too (the old Imaac) its great
