well?

OP posts:
h0ney · 14/12/2008 15:16

depends on the definition of foul?

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 14/12/2008 15:16

No. you are not at all unreasonable to ask. Ask away.

pooka · 14/12/2008 15:16

Why?

lou031205 · 14/12/2008 15:16

That would be really odd, though, wouldn't it? I don't use foul language in any of my posts, or in RL, but if I did, I wouldn't make an announcement first.

MadamAnt · 14/12/2008 15:17

Not really. Even if there's no "foul language" in the OP, some potty-mouthed oaf like me will probably chip in with some sweariness later in the thread anyway, so what's the point?

Lulumama · 14/12/2008 15:17

YABU, although I am not hugely keen on very sweary thread titles, and some are just gratuitous and for shock value, most people who post on here are adults and should be able to post using swear words etc

agree it is subjective. some people would say jesus christ is not acceptable but would not object to the F word etc etc

believer07 · 14/12/2008 15:19

There has been a proliferation of filthy language it seems for the sake of it recently. Especially in this section of MN. Its just nasty to open a thread and get whammed in the face with a load of garbled filth that a 14 year old school boy would use.

Watch out. I'm going to cuss.

poinsettydog · 14/12/2008 15:21

Bugger me, what a daft op.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 14/12/2008 15:21

yabu

believer07 · 14/12/2008 15:21

Have no objection to the odd sprinkling of adult language, it seems that some just want to lower the tone for shock value.

OP posts:
soapbox · 14/12/2008 15:22

I think if you are offended by crude language then MN might not be the right place for you.

Afterall, when in Rome...

daftpunk · 14/12/2008 15:23

yanbu...it's pointless.

believer07 · 14/12/2008 15:24

LOL @ soapbox.

Actually I like MN and don't find it that bad ususally.

As Lulumama said, I don't mind the anglo saxon F and S words. The use of Gd and J* as cuss words does offend me. An accountant I knew objected vociferously to the word bastard as an insult. He was illegitimate being born in the early 50's when it must have been what people would call him. An Indian chemist hated it when she was called 'bitchy' (by another employee not me) she interpreted it as being called a dog. I don't think your proposition would work. So many different things are offensive to different people, and as an earlier poster said, someone could come onto the thread without warning, cuss up a blue streak and then leave.

ggirlsbells · 14/12/2008 15:28

yabu

who gives a shit

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 14/12/2008 15:30

I must admit I was going onto a Lego Fan chatsite when I saw in the rules that we were not allowed to swear, had to use good grammer and spelling. I immediately shifted to Bricklink where we could happily discuss suitable names for Lego minifigure porn movies "Legover" and "Studs on All Sides" without censorship. I could cope with not swearing but the good grammer and spelling were too much of a stretch for me.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 14/12/2008 15:30

What if someone other than the op swore though? You cant put in your title, be warned, someone may swear, can you?

YABU.

TheFalconInThePearTree · 14/12/2008 15:30

YABU. What's next? Warning may contain mention of fruitshoots? One reference to sausage roll consumption by small child, possibly Greggs.

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 14/12/2008 15:31

I'm just waiting for username F**k to show up on this thread as it has on others in the past.

believer07 · 14/12/2008 15:33

Seems like I am onto a loser with this one.
