To not care that a sex offender got stabbed to death up the road from me.

Last night a 52 year old sex offender got stabbed to death A post-mortem examination said the cause of death was multiple wounds including mutilation of the groin. He was a known sex offender in the Wandsworth area and had attacked a girl under the age of 16.

Everyone in my office is shocked that this could happen in our area literally down the road from me, but to be honest I am glad they did it and expressed this. One less perve off the streets.

What do you think?

Ok I'm going to say something pretty personal but my father is a sex offender. I don't have any contact (haven't since I found out apart from one visit in prison when I was 18, because I needed to). I hate him for what he's done. I also know that he had it done to him (that doesn't justify it, but I'm not a psychiatrist so I don't know how these things work with some people). I'm kind of torn, I think that the crime is so despicable and what he has done has, I'm sure, affected others' lives so deeply that it makes me hate him even more. But I don't see why the general public can justify such an act of brutality. I can understand it, though, if it was done by somebody affected or close to someone who was affected. Feel very exposed now

an associated but valid point also- every Paedophile has family that are innocent (even if theyve been abused there are going to be other family members)-sn't mob rule punishing them too? If one of my boys God forbid were a sex offnder I'd be mortified: if they were then tortured and killed I don't think I could live with the images and pain

I never said I condoned murder or violence, I simply couldn't give a shit that he was killed.

I am sure the people involved with the killing will be brought to justice and so they should be.

Whoever said he served his time there isn't another time in the world you could serve for crimes against children.

Also the person who said the abused become abusers that does not justify what they do, In fact it makes it worse that they think its ok to do it to another child because it happened to them .

They should either be locked up for life or castrated. They for sure should not be put back in the community.

The man in question used to lurk around some flats with another known child sex offender, The flats were right where my God Daughters Nan lived and there was a time when my god daughter her cousin and 2 little girls were outside playing in the play area and the other sex offender tried to call them over to the flats it was only because of my best friends sister that they never went, and I know the father of one of the girls beat the shit out of the other guy. That guy still stares at the children and tries to talk to them.

I know if someone touched my children They would be dead.

Sex offending would not stop if you 'castrated' offenders. Its not simply about sexual urges but also about power and control.

The defenders of the mob in this case keep going on as if the mob consisted of the parents of a child abused. There is absolutely no evidence of this at all. In previous cases of mob violence against sex offenders or supposed sex offenders (such as the paediatrician mentioned in one post or the person who was unlucky enough to have the same name as a convicted paedophile), the mob has been made up of unconnected people: basically the kind of people who like the idea of legitimised violence.

And it's only a few days since there was a news item discussed on Mumsnet where a woman had confessed that she had placed false allegations of paedophilia on Facebook to get back at a man she had it in for.

So how safe does that make any of our husbands?

And what would you do if you'd gassed someone and then found out their conviction was actually false, based on malicious allegations or mistaken identity? Bring them back to life?

ive not read all of this but i just don't know how to feel, yes i know its an old thread but i get so torn over these things, i thought id try and type it out

When i read that the torturer of baby P (God rest his soul) was burnt in prison i was glad, really really glad - and i hope he is taunted to suicide. But i don't think about him as a person, just something that did great harm to a little innocent child.

I have watched programs about prisoners on death row, where they focus on the person and not the crime and i can't help but feel compassion for that person because to harm another human being is abhorrant to me and when it comes to it, whilst i think, leave me alone in a room with a sex offender for long enough and i'll dole out a suitable punishment - does that make me as base and evil as the criminal in the first place?

Have they ever worked out what motivates a person to harm a child?
