To not care that a sex offender got stabbed to death up the road from me.

Last night a 52 year old sex offender got stabbed to death A post-mortem examination said the cause of death was multiple wounds including mutilation of the groin. He was a known sex offender in the Wandsworth area and had attacked a girl under the age of 16.

Everyone in my office is shocked that this could happen in our area literally down the road from me, but to be honest I am glad they did it and expressed this. One less perve off the streets.

What do you think?

hides hysterical mob thread

wannaBe · 12/12/2008 16:11

oh I missed the bit about stop knife crime.

Hypocrit.

pamelat · 12/12/2008 16:12

I know and if you want to think about it practically instead then think how much a murder costs the police, which is money that could be used elsewhere for the good of society.

I bet it will cost a million, easy.

My problem is that I cant help but imagine how everyone must feel. I dont like to think of how scared or painful it may have been to anyone.

loobeylou · 12/12/2008 16:12

pingping, is it not you that has a cousin seriously ill in hospital as a result of a violent girlfriend? (apologies if thats my error, so many MNers i get confused)

The actions you describe are just another symptom of our society gone mad with "normal everyday people" resorting to extremes of violence. This can NEVER be justified in a civilised society, and this attitude that "its ok cos he was a paedo" is part of the problem, not part of the solution, of making our communities a better place!!

Cannot believe that ANYONE can condone this act, whether or not it is connected to his past record.

So it was a mob of people from the local pub, not a random murderer walking about. So what! Glad it's not my local BTW. Shame on them and shame on you for condoning their "animal" behaviour. I just hope someone among them has the guts and conscience to come forward and say what happened.

mamakim · 12/12/2008 16:13

Yabu. This kind of vigilante crime really is nothing to support.

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 12/12/2008 16:13

what would concern me most- living near a peadophile who had been on the register who was being watched etc or a gang of several unidentified murderers prepared to torture?

Clue: the latter, obviously.

yabu, and rather horrid.

lixylix · 12/12/2008 16:14

I would rather have the murderer of the sex offender in my area than the living sex offender.

Waltzywotzy · 12/12/2008 16:16

Two wrongs don't make a right.
Mob law is not the way.

ilovemydog · 12/12/2008 16:18

agree with wannabe

wannaBe · 12/12/2008 16:19

if I knew where you lived I would be reporting to the police that the person setting up this "stop knife crime" group is actually a supporter of vijilanti action and should not be trusted to work with the local youth. Seriously.

WinkyWinkola · 12/12/2008 16:20

There'll be other sex offenders still living nearby. So now you have murderers amongst you as well. What a lovely mob rule neighbourhood.

YABU and a bit dim because you think the mob ever stops to think? It could be you or yours next time - mistaken identity etc.

loobeylou · 12/12/2008 16:21

there have been several cases of "mistaken identity" in these vigilante attacks BTW. people with similar names/looks who are totally innocent. What if one dies? Do the murderers say, sorry wrong person - and expect it to be Ok cos they were trying to do society a favour and their hearts in the right place.

remember the paediatrician whose home was attacked seemingly because some one MISheard someone else saying "that woman at number wotsit, she's a paediatrician you know"

CatIsSleepy · 12/12/2008 16:25

bloody hell you are glad there's a murdering mob near where you live? that hang out in your local pub? doesn't sound like much to be glad about

SnowOfHands · 12/12/2008 16:26

I think this is a thoroughly unpleasant thread and highlights opinions and thoughts I am pleased not to encounter often on Mumsnet.

I am saddened by your thread title but dear me, the glee at the brutal death of another displayed throughout the thread is appalling.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 12/12/2008 16:28

"I would rather have the murderer of the sex offender in my area than the living sex offender."

really - someone who is prepared to carry out a vigilante attack - what if they think you, or one of your family has done "wrong".........

wannaBe · 12/12/2008 16:29

look at it this way, the sex offender most likely is being watched, the police know where he is, and know what he's doing.

The murdering mob on the other hand could be anyone, anywhere, and no-one really knows what they might object to next.

If someone can murder someone else, even if it be a sex offender, then they are capable of murdering anyone. And still you're glad about it.

crankycrane · 12/12/2008 16:31

sex offenders are scum
Why protect them?
It should be our children ho are protected

crankycrane · 12/12/2008 16:31

who are protected

Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/12/2008 16:33

Crankycrane this isn't about protecting sex offenders. It's about not allowing murders. Can't you see the difference?

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 12/12/2008 16:33

and who is protecting you and your family from those with the mob mentality? Certainly not the police - unlike the murder victim who would have been watched/

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 12/12/2008 16:33

This thread is like reading the Sun.

thisisyesterday · 12/12/2008 16:34

so, when the sex offenders family get together and come and murder the pub mob, will that be ok too?
and then they'll get murdered? and so on and so forth.

how ridiculous.
I didn't realise there were such ignorant people on Mumsnet
