I have a big gathering of people coming round, doing loads of food and had a huge sack of very muddy potatoes that needed washing before I put them in the oven for jacket spuds. Was in a right state about timings and all the work,

So... i put them in the dishwasher.

and they've come out beautifully clean and already warm to go in the oven.

Did you put the Finish tablet in as well?

Lulumama · 11/12/2008 17:16

are you the same poster who put yellow food colouring in the paella!!

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 11/12/2008 17:17

Good idea!

DisasterArea · 11/12/2008 17:17

i'd love to know how they taste.

mankymummy · 11/12/2008 17:18

lulumama - gosh some MNers have long memories...yes but this is an INTELLIGENT decision i feel, the food colouring was a big mistake. And the potatoes are absolutely fine.

NoBiggyTurkey... of course not, i put in garlic and chives in the little compartment instead (not really).

As long as you didn't use detergent, and your dishwasher has an efficient rinse cycle (so there wasn't loads of detergent from the last dishwash in there) I think that's a very good idea.
My mum used to put washed lettuces in the spin-dryer if she was making a lot of salad...

Lulumama · 11/12/2008 17:20

ha ! you are a legend

LOl at garlic and chives though

not quite sure it was an intelligent decision, but i am slightly disturbed/ in awe of your cooking

UnfortunatelyMe · 11/12/2008 17:20

Good idea. Just a quicky on the rinse cycle...will keep in mind

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2008 17:20

It sounds like a good idea... Let us know if they taste soapy.

Your friend who thinks you are a lazy slattern - is she going to be eating these potatoes? Don't tell them, or else they will imagine the soapy taste!

Tommy · 11/12/2008 17:21

my friend used to cook her salmon on the dishwasher...

I think you are innovative and very sensible

mankymummy · 11/12/2008 17:21

sticks... my gran used to put her pastry through the mangle... maybe thats where i get it from !

Will they not get really, really wet that way?

If it works, who's to judge!

Miggsie · 11/12/2008 17:23

...my husband puts classic car parts through the dishwasher...

mankymummy · 11/12/2008 17:23

tinselianastra... yes she will scoff probably most of them all the time commenting on how soapy that particular variety is just to wind me up !

bandgeek · 11/12/2008 17:24

In fact, ignore my last post. Of course potatoes have to get wet. It's been a long day!

believer07 · 11/12/2008 17:24

Perfect example of working smarter and not harder.

well done

MadamAnt · 11/12/2008 17:29

LazySleepy · 11/12/2008 17:48

arcticlemming · 11/12/2008 18:01

If you were really a lazy stattern you'd just have served them covered in mud. Sounds great to me.

bossykate · 11/12/2008 18:15
