I have a big gathering of people coming round, doing loads of food and had a huge sack of very muddy potatoes that needed washing before I put them in the oven for jacket spuds. Was in a right state about timings and all the work,

So... i put them in the dishwasher.

and they've come out beautifully clean and already warm to go in the oven.

How could one cycle have anything to do with the next cycle if your plumbing is right and there is a pipe leading out of the dishwasher in order to DRAIN it?
That's the logic of a dishwasher isn't it?
I used to sterilise my DDs bottles in the dishwasher when I started giving her EBM and formula.

Actually mankymummy I'm just thinking that MnS always have washed spuds in bags - they power hose them? and their salads also? with slightly bleacy water, no? So your's are actually better as the water was just water.

That is such a good idea. Washing the blooming things would be the only thing that would put me off putting baked tatties on a menu for loads of people. Problem solved (although I too would struggle to catch the dishwasher in the nanosecond when it is empty )

i've got an allotment and im thinking parsnips, carrots, swede, potatoes, anything muddy is going in there from now on...

zazen... i think you're right and actually costhe temperature gets quite hot i reckon you are sterilising the potatoes too !
