To find it a bit odd when people go through several prams in the space of a few months?

I sometimes read posts on here from 'pram addicts' who despite having only one or two childrem have had several different prams and pushchairs.

I just read a pushchair review on another site that said: 'So far since my 9 month old son's birth I've had a Micralite fastfold, 2 quinny zapps, a fisher price safe voyager, a loola and this quest sport.'

Does that sound like overkill to anyone else?

Sorry if I offend anyone and I'm sure I'll be told if that's the case but I just don't get why you would need to keep changing prams?

But it's not alot of money if you sell them as you go.
If I have another baby I will have the bugaboo for the first 18 months as I like the car seat, carrycot and rear facing seat.
I have a Bertini which is great until about 2.5 years and then you need a Maclaren to run along side from 6 months until 3 years.
I would sell the bugaboo at about 18 months which would finance the Maclaren and probably a few other bits and pieces too.

Hmmm...it makes more sense if it's not actually costing money, just a little hobby in that case, fair enough.

Had a big Mamas and Papas 3in1 withDD1. Lovely but heavy with a bigger baby so got a buggy too. Buggy lasted several months and then broke so thinking she would only need buggy for a few more months got a cheapo buggy. Mistake- buggy breaks and DD uses pushchairs until she is almost 4. An umbrella fold from John Lewis did well for a long time here.
With DD2 use the fab M&P and invest in a maclaren triumph when she gets bigger.
DD3 arrives after two years and I get a P&T. Useful for 6 months, not my cup of tea, sell after a year. Go through a succession of second hand pushchairs with a variety of drawbacks and still trying to find a pushchair to suit.
Many mums in search of the perfect pushchair and have fun trying out many different kinds-usually second hand. No harm is it?

SparklyGothKat · 02/12/2008 13:20

I have had a fair few pushchairs since having Callum, I buy cheap and sell at a profit.

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 13:21

I don't see the harm - we're not hurting anyone. It's like a hobby for me.

misdee · 02/12/2008 13:23

ok i will admit this on this thread. i initially bought a second hand bugaboo cameleon for dd4. but that was when i lived at my old house. which had massive L shaped hallway and plenty of room to store it. then we moved house just before dd4 was born. and the pram just took up too much room. my sisters found a bugaboo gecko on ebay for £170. so i sold the cam for £400, bought the gecko and had £230 in the bank. thank goodness i did as the next week, dh had a car accident and i had to replace all the car seats and then send receipts off to insurence company to try and get the money back.

i also clean, oil and maintain my buggies so when i want to sell it on i can sell it in good-excellant used condition and get as much back as possible. i should actually make a little bit extra back on the gecko when i sell it.

SparklyGothKat · 02/12/2008 13:26

I brought a baby jogger for £30, sold for £140, sold my pushchair for £180, and brought a Bugaboo Cam brand new in Mothercare for £277 in the sale.

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 13:27

I'm the same misdee every week I give my prams an "MOT" clean the wheels, hoover them, check tyre pressures, oil them, check for loose nuts & bolts etc.

I've only had a few brand new prams & they were absolute bargains, the rest have been 2nd hand!

BexieID · 02/12/2008 13:31

I stopped using our travel system (Tom was about 8 months) after I fell down the stairs to our flat carrying it! Luckily I didn't break anything, only just smacked my wrist and kinda skidded along the floor on my kness!

When Tom was 4 months I got a 2nd hand Jive to go on the train with but bought a 2nd hand Micralite a month later as the Jive didn't have a raincover. I bought a Chicco stroller for the PIL, a Graco Citilite of ebay for 1p and my mum rescued a Jive from the skip at her work.

I have also tried a Zia and a Zapp. Now I have a 2nd hand Mountain Buggy (Tom pushed the Micralite down the stairs breaking the hood). The Mountain Buggy is really good as the raincover actually covers him, unlike the Micralite one!

Tom will be 32 months next week. So, thats me who has had 9 pushchairs, although 2 are at my mums and 1 is at the PIL!

lizandlulu · 02/12/2008 13:52

the first time i used my travel system i realised it wasnt for me. i couldnt put it down easily and it was too big and bulky

PurlyQueen · 02/12/2008 14:16

Those of you with just the one buggy should count yourselves lucky that you have one model that suits all your needs.

DH are both tall and walk a lot, so the Quinny Buzz (£160 on eBay) suits us most of the time.

I started out with a Mamas and Papas Aria, but I only use this for holidays or if I know I'll be using public transport a lot as it's lightweight and easy to fold/unfold.

But it didn't lie flat enough when my son was newborn, so I got a Peg Perego Milano for £6 on eBay. I could have stuck with this one, but to be honest, I really fancied a Buzz.

nicolamumof3 · 02/12/2008 14:29

what a funny thread, i have had many pushchairs and not ashamed of it, why not? its my hobby like some people buy bags or shoes, i like buggies, like alot of others i sell on to buy another and go on like that. i always prefer to buy new as i am a bit of a clean freak all my buggies are like new when i sell them.

today i saw a lady with a double buggy with just a newborn in, dp said why is she using her double (no other child in sight) so i had to remind him not every family have a pushchair collection like us!!!!

ahfeckit · 02/12/2008 14:35

i just can't imagine investing a lot of time into buying new prams or buggies, have better stuff to be doing most days.
if it's not broken, don't fix it.

StickLadyLove · 02/12/2008 14:48

I have had a changing bag obsession since having my children...I can't admit tho how many I've had [embarrassed]
BUT I always sell them on on eBay, for a very small loss, and sometimes have even made a profit...so I guess I'm on zero balance overall!

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 14:55

Stick I've just bought myself a custom made changing bag & am seriously in love with it lol!

It really doesn't take much time to buy a pram - you decide what you want & buy it lol!

PurlyQueen · 02/12/2008 17:59

Don't talk to me about changing bags .

I'm on number three - my son is only eight months old.

victoriaplum08 · 02/12/2008 18:05

I have had quite a few prams! Yes I am a total pram nerd but I bought my first one on ebay, then sold it, bought another one etc. I think I went through about 9/ 10 until my daughter was 5 months I then bought an icandy cherry at a bargain price and you would have to prise it from my cold dead fingers! I suppose I just kept going until I found my perfect pram. I dont drive either so I use it loads. I look back now and think yes it was a bit extreme but I had fun! (dd is now 1 btw)I tried to et into slings but they hurt by back after a while and it limits my shopping sprees to what I can carry

babyjjbaby · 02/12/2008 18:41

i am a pram addict and don't care what noone else i thinks i can afford it i buy and sell alot and love prams so what the hell u only live once

wittyusername · 02/12/2008 21:14

DD is nearly 21 months old and we've had 2 pushchairs - the first was a Mothercare travel system. Though we don't drive, we had to get DD home from the hospital by car when she was born so rather than forking out £60+ on a seldom used car seat we got the travel system.

Now we use a Mclaren Quest - nice and light for use on the buses. I had no idea pram addiction existed until I went to some internet forums!

wittyusername · 02/12/2008 21:16

BTW - regarding the OP - YANBU, I do find it strange to be going through several pushchairs in a short time frame - but to each their own and all that

Nappiesgalore · 02/12/2008 21:20

oh fgs

pram addicts deserve sympathy. it is an expression of trauma and discontent. they think the perfect pram/buggy whatever will Make Everything Great. they are desperate to get control over SOMETHING.

calling them shitfuckerwankercnuts is not really particularly constructive or nice, given that now is it?

[nappies gets belligerent]

elmoandella · 02/12/2008 21:30

changing prams is my hobby too.

it's enjoyable. and the fact is you dont loose money if you purchase and sell wisely. sure there will be the odd one i loose money on. but tbh there's also a fair few i've made money on. so i dont see the problem. it's all about buying them when you see them on sale somewhere. and selling on when sale finishes.

i'm not harming anyone. i'm not spending any money on something else. as money from one sale goes into "pot" for the next sale. dont buy one till got money to from selling another.

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 21:30

PMSL - have to disagree with that, I'm the most content & happy I have ever been in my life - it's simply a hobby & a means of making a bit of extra cash (I buy a bargain, do them up & sell them on!)

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/12/2008 21:41

so far with ds2 who is 14m old

3 wheeler travel system with carry cot, car seat and pushchair seat, got rid of it before i had ds2 as it was the wrong colour

another 3 wheeler which was ok but seemed a bit flimsy so got rid before i had ds2

Graco travel system which was sooooooo heavy i hated it within 3 weeks of him being born.

Then I bought a pram off of here which I loved but was also offered an emmaljunga pram (which I still have and use) so i gave the other one to a deserving cause.

A maclaren pushchair yuck!!!!!!

A micralite fastfold which I love and still use

A bruin pushchair which i still have

A mamas and papas aria which I am selling.

so in my home at the moment I have 4 prams one of which is for sale lol.

Nappiesgalore · 02/12/2008 21:44

ah, youre just in denial
