To find it a bit odd when people go through several prams in the space of a few months?

I sometimes read posts on here from 'pram addicts' who despite having only one or two childrem have had several different prams and pushchairs.

I just read a pushchair review on another site that said: 'So far since my 9 month old son's birth I've had a Micralite fastfold, 2 quinny zapps, a fisher price safe voyager, a loola and this quest sport.'

Does that sound like overkill to anyone else?

Sorry if I offend anyone and I'm sure I'll be told if that's the case but I just don't get why you would need to keep changing prams?

She sounds like a nutter.

Pram huns are weirdos, who cares if its offensive - it's true.

breadandroses · 02/12/2008 09:44

Cos they are nobs

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 02/12/2008 09:44

I personallly don't change prams frequently at all. However I guess it's a bit like cars.

Sone people have the same car for 15yrs until it dies and they have to replace it. Others like to upgrade/buy new (or secondhand but new to them) more often.

I guess with prams if you like to change about then you have to do it in a short space of time as they don't have the same "use" time as a car

lillypie · 02/12/2008 09:45

LOL Lot's of people like to try out different prams.Sometimes it takes a while to find the right one

lillypie · 02/12/2008 09:47

I don't think there is any need to be offensive

KatieDD · 02/12/2008 09:49

No different prams do different things at different stages, there isn't one that covers everything (that i've found anyway).
Plus when you are pregnant it's very easy to get sold something that you don't actually need.
I want to drag people out of mamas and papas when you see them with their bumps and get them to lift that three in one hugeeee pram in and out of their boot 10 times and see if they still love it

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 09:51

What different things do they do though? Aren't they just for, like, pushing a baby around in?

Changing your hulking great travel system for a McClaren buggy when you realise travel system was a heavy, impractical rip off - fair enough

Salivating over Quinny Zaps and BugaBoos - sad.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 09:53

Exactly skippy!

I've got a travel system I'm perfectly happy with, but I need something for trips to London and holidays so just got a Maclaren for £63. But I resented paying for that really because the travel system really is fine the rest of the time.

breadandroses · 02/12/2008 09:53

There is a difference between swapping a heavy travel system for a stroller and the madness the op described.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 02/12/2008 09:54

well I love my Hauck Infinity, Carrycoy perfect for when DS3 was tiny, still great now (with the pushchair bit obviously ) at 18 months..............

But......different strokes for different folks. Actually if I could afford it I probably would have more than one pushchair on the go at one time. I love my Hauck as I walk everywhere and it's big and sturdy - but I often think that a nice smaller pushchair for the occasions I do go on the bus would be nice too...........I rather liked my Citi Sport I got for DS2 but I gave that away to a friend a while ago for her DD - who still uses it occasionaly.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 09:54

Yes, I'm definitely referring to the madness.

OP posts:
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 02/12/2008 09:56

oh I would really like a pushchair with a bigger basket for when I do my grocery shopping too..............

TheCrackFox · 02/12/2008 09:56

YANBU.

Is is me or the mums who get through loads of prams always seem to drive cars too? Their prams are only ever used to walk around soul-less shopping centres and look practically brand new.

I can't drive and the reason both boys had to start walking everywhere is because the buggies fell apart and I was far too stingy to buy another.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 02/12/2008 09:58

Roffle @ 'pram huns'.

That's made my day

TipsyFairydifferentID · 02/12/2008 09:59

I work selling the delightful objects and trust me- no matter how many times I tell the customer not to go for the big heavy tank of a pram, they do. Younger mums who are on public transport are the worst offenders. They will happily blow £300 on a huge travel system and then will buy the cheapest strollers as soon as the baby hits 6 months and will get through about 5 in the time their child is in it because they use it as a shopping trolley and then have a go at me!

catweazle · 02/12/2008 10:00

Well we've only got one baby and won't be having another but we have 3 prams. All were bought in the first year. We have a Silver Cross Linear Sleepover which is our "main" pushchair; a Maclaren Quest we bought to take on holiday when she was 5 months old because the SC didn't fit in the boot of my Smart, and doesn't fold down in one piece; and a Cosatto Holiday buggy bought to take on the plane when we flew to NZ.

It's handy to have different prams for different situations, and if people can afford it so what?

KatieScarlettontopofthetree · 02/12/2008 10:02

I got flamed on another forum for telling someone who had gone through 15 prams in 3 years for 2 kids that it may be slight overkill. It wasn't so much that she might have been looking for the right one but the way it was put. "and they're all Bugaboos and Silvercross" Rubbing noses in it was my thought.

I've always found that if I leave a couple of bugggies in the dark of my garage, they breed. It couldn't be to do with the fact that everytime I see a good buy in a charity shop I buy it, whether or not I need it.

There are definitely 'pram snobs' out there!
Never understood it myself, the prices alone are enough to make most see sense and use what they have.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 02/12/2008 10:15

I have had 3 prams and my son is 2.5YO

  1. Emmaljunga he grew out of at 18 months
  2. Jane Energy was just shite
  3. M&P 03 Sport this is the only one I have left and I love it but would like a smaller one for travelling on trains (occassionally) but cant afford it.

If I had more money Im sure Id have more pushchairs I love them simply because there is not one pushchair that does everything from birth to toddler! So you just need to try them out and see what works for you and your DC dont see the problem.

Not my cash not my DC
Not my bsuiness not my problem!

mrsgboring · 02/12/2008 10:15

Well I'm a bit of a sling addict (but only have about 12 when real babywearing obsessives have well over 100) and I can understand the compulsion TBH. I am surprised if it is the cardwellers who go through so many prams, because all my carriers have been bought for different public transport situations - i.e. one I can put on sitting down in a train, one I can carry an 18 month old round the Natural History Museum on a BH Mon and not melt, one that I can put round a sleeping DS in a carseat and lift him out to get on a car ferry etc. etc.

Now I've come to view prams and pushchairs as mostly a waste of time, but if I could find my perfect one (which would be basically like a souped up supermarket trolley with supportive seat with footrest, separate lying down bed area, excellent suspension and absolutely shedloads of luggage space) I might have one and use it occasionally.

I know I am odd but I also know there is no one perfect solution to the moving baby around problem and sometimes you want different options, or to try something else and see if it is better. If you know the secondhand market well, swapping slings all the time is virtually cost neutral. Maybe the same is true of prams?

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 10:17

Nah, I still don't get why she got through 6 in 9 months.
