Plenty of evidence of the very real risks of measles though - Why put your child at risk?????????

He could very easily catch measles and suffer terribly - possibly die

He could have the mmr and be fine

Everything in life involves risk - The risks involved with mmr are much lower than the very real risk of measles

"As others have said there is no evidence for ti being the cause BUT where is the evidence that it isn't? "

what a bizzare argument.

there is no evidence that autism is not caused by orange juice, driving a blue car, living in devon, being up on MN far past your bed time......

its a dangerous world out there!

YANBU, none of mine have had it and they won't. I've read lots about the MMR and the DTP jabs, plenty of children are affected by these vaccines just the government like to brush over it because it costs them less money to vaccinate the way they do rather than singles. Nevermind the damage it can do, it's all worked out, whatever costs the least. If paying out for vaccine damaged children (and there is a fund for this) costs less than it does to change to singles vaccines then they'll keep on doing the mutli ones, as they do.

goldilocksandmylittlebear · 28/11/2008 23:57

I had no worries at all about the MMR before I read this thread, now i'm really worried, espeacilly as my 12 month old catches bugs every week and was early, had breathing problems when born etc. He is fine now but catches everything.

I just googled and found this site, which has REALLY scared me:

www.thinktwice.com/mmr.htm

JodieO · 28/11/2008 23:58

38 vaccinations before they're 2?!! That's amazing and surely not needed, what healthy child needs that many vaccines? I'm amazed, I really am.

I had measles as a child and I was a heathly child, I wasn't affected much at all. No doubt in 10 years chicken pox will be a killer too

JodieO · 29/11/2008 00:00

Goldi - I've seen that before too and many others, the thing is that the government doesn't give impartial advice, they will advocate the MMR and so you have to do your own research. My cousin was damaged be MMR, he was fine until he had it and then after it he became Autistic, it was profound and this was abuot 15 years ago.

Jodie0, did they PROVE it was the MMR?

TrillianAstra · 29/11/2008 00:06

Jackaroo - you are my hero. If people are talking scientific rubbish then PubMed their asses.

So what do I say to my Mum then?

She had a baby girl and while pregant contracted rubella. Baby was born with severe problems and died withing 12 hours.

Jabs could have prevented that.

goldilocksandmylittlebear · 29/11/2008 00:18

God, I feel sick now. I think I'm going to run off to somewhere in the middle of know where with my bubs! Its so scary! I thought I had the MMR decision made?

TrinityRhino · 29/11/2008 00:19

yes I was too easy earlier
you are crazy, you are just allowing yourself to believe the scaremongering

JodieO · 29/11/2008 00:31

They rarely prove it but they still pay out, there's the difference, it's all just saying they are vaccine damaged but not actually admitting anything. I think every country has a fund for vaccine damaged children but it's not really made public.

The wakefield study wasn't what I read, there are also lots of parents (who's voices can't be discounted as they know if their children change) who give their accounts of what happened the their children.

As long as you are aware of everything and make your decisions based on more than what the government says and supports (BSE anyone?) then you are doing the best you can.

Flynnie · 29/11/2008 00:33

I agree Jodie.
And to the OP, it is your child and your decision and imo a good one.

Gosh.....

Ok, if someone came on here and said "my child is severly allergic to Calpol, and could die if she gets it", then we would all be giving support and kind words.

How can vaccinations be a "one size fits all" proposition? People can have reactions to all sorts or things, and no-one bats an eye.
Yet many of you are amazed to think that a small child can react to a vaccination - which is a kind of a medicine.

They are foreign to the body, they are manufactured in a lab, HOW can it be that no-one has an adverse reaction?

Honestly, it is a hard decision, but it should BE a decision - a choice.

Sometimes all a parent has is their instinct.

bellabelly · 29/11/2008 00:58

This thread has made me feel sad and angry. I can't believe mparnts are putting their hildren (and children who come into contact with their kids) at risk. I really thnkt is incredibly selfish to refuse the MMR jabs - the epidemic we have at the moment is a direct result of all of this nonsense. There is NO link to autism. NONE. Hang your heads in shame those of you refusing the jab for such stupid reasons.

bellabelly · 29/11/2008 00:59

no purpleduck, they also have the benefit of science and reasoning and extensive medical research .

purpleduck · 29/11/2008 01:03

Of course they do bella, but there are bloody good arguments on both sides

bellabelly · 29/11/2008 01:05

erm, no there aren't...

purpleduck · 29/11/2008 01:06

yes there are
