We'll live the knitting and cleaning to you thanks VeniVidi.

expatinscotland · 09/11/2008 21:20

i'd rather do the cleaning and knitting than be a herpes-ridden whore, to be quite frank.

At least with knitting you end up with something useful. and if you are good at it , beautiful.

Neither could be said of the horrid heff

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/11/2008 21:22

I'm sorry, i've decided i'm far too busy passively endorsing misogynist banality through viewership

look up on e.how how you would apply to become a Playboy Bunny. You have to apply. You get weighed periodically and you have to maintain an appearance.
The same is with any high profile job that is similar. Take the example of the Dallas Cheerleaders. Not everyone makes it. They have a long list of applicants.
Don't tell me that these women are forced to apply. That just isn't so. They wait for some time to get the chance to audition. Once they get "hired" they have that on their resume' for life. It's a prestige thing. Not a female slavery thing.
The chicks that are the Girls Next Door have contracts. They don't do the show for free. They also have a relationship with Hugh.
I'm not saying he isn't some old prune that loves young women. I'm saying these young women use him too. It's mutual.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/11/2008 21:23

No, I jest, I'd rather crochet my own bra.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/11/2008 21:24

Prestige? Fucking hell.

wehaveallbeenthere · 09/11/2008 21:24

Personally, this thread is way more time spent than I've done watching that show. Okay. off to other threads.

'a prestige thing'

I think then, that we have rather different ideas about what that word means

tiredsville · 09/11/2008 21:28

It's fair enough disagreeing with the lifestyle these girls lead. But patronising us who have seen the programme, makes you frankly sound like a bitter, boring, bunch of old farts.
Give it to me baby!

Ah yes, the usual protestation of the female misogynist to her considered detractors - "you are boring/bitter/uptight/whatever".

You know what happens if you're too open-minded, don't you, girls?

Your brain falls out.

Mind it doesn't...oh dear.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/11/2008 21:45

@ hunker

tiredsville · 09/11/2008 21:46

Look my lovlies.I do not agree with women getting exploited and also don't agree with you bitching to us women who have seen the programme. I'll try to stick to the gardening, antique road show next time. Gee get over yourselves.

onebatmother · 09/11/2008 21:49

Misogyny, like other successful but inequitable social systems, doesn't only operate through force.

It works by building a system in which the demeaned willingly enslave themselves.

"prestige"? Yes, for women who live in a world where the alternatives are dire. I don't live in that world, and I would like to work towards a world where more women can say that. I do this in part by withdrawing my support for programmes which promote this thinking.

You don't sound as though you've given this a huge amount of thought.

hunkermunker · 09/11/2008 21:49

I love that you can only know about this if you've seen the programme.

Because we all know how the whole truth is laid out for all to see on television, don't we?

MN used to be like going for a swim in the middle of the sea (calming, bracing, stimulating) - now it's often like splashing in puddles (fun to do for a bit, but you get grubby doing it).

Blondilocks · 09/11/2008 21:52

The swimming pool is pretty groovy!
