To think that people shouldn't use the *F* word on Mumsnet

No doubt a bunch of smart alecs are going to tell me to F* off but ...

Why do some MNetters feel the need to use obscene language on here? Are they too inarticulate to express themselves without foul language? I started a thread on another topic, moving along nicely then a prolific poster told us to "all f* off". Why do that on a forum that is set up primarily to be friendly and supportive?

Just leave the foul language off MumsNet.

Mulanmum, are you saying you never swear?

I don't see anything wrong with it. As others have said, I don't swear in front of the children, but what's the problem on a site for adults?

If you don't like it, then you can just substitute a 'Bleeepp' everytime you read it

(although I'm sure I was reading a thread the other day where you threw in a few swear words of your own? May be wrong....)

I also love making friends with people who swear. I play 'verbal abuse' tennis via text with my best mate. I always win because I end with "See You Next Tuesday"

I like a good old swear now and again but only tell racist bigots to fuck off directly. (unless really riled)

Up north (where has been my home for the last 10 years) they find the word Twat really offense whereas down south it is just like calling someone a twit but a little bit harsher. I got in loads of trouble when I first moved here!

ghosty · 29/10/2008 12:00

LOL
"Meet the Fuckers"

expatinscotland · 29/10/2008 12:00

on trekk to Broad Peak base camp, we had contests to see how many times 'fuck' could be used in a grammatically correct sentence.

the Brits always won.

dsrplus8 · 29/10/2008 12:00

i hate the wordfanny not sure if its swearing. was also godsmacked/horrifed when my 8yr ds said butmuncher, dont mind fuck and known to use bastardin a lot oops!

AMumInScotland · 29/10/2008 12:01

Actually I reckon "fark" is much more annoying than "feck" - I think someone on here recently said that "feck" is actually a different Irish swear-word anyway, not a mis-pronunciation of "fuck" at all, but it just sounds that way.

scaryfucker and seriousfucker, can I join your quiche please?

teafortwo · 29/10/2008 12:04

If it is used as an adjective or adverb to express something in an articulate and funny way - then tbh - why fucking not???

If it is used to give a virtual slap to someone who simply has a different opinion to you - definately not fine! Telling a fellow mner to "Go forth and muliply" (Black Adder quote - I wish I was that funny!) but using far sharper words - for example - is too too much!

As Thumper's wise Mummy explained (Bambi quote coming up - look away if it is too mushy for you):

"If yer can't shaaaay nuffin' nice. Don't say nuffin' at all!"

MN is right to delete messages that use the f word to really hurt deep.

MN is about support, peace, love and of course a good ol' fashioned belly laugh now and then !!! People do have feelings and as a result will throw the odd insult - However, I think it is right mn keeps tabs and deletes where needed.

Now...AIBU - to always write such massive posts??? Oh no no no - peeeerrrlease - it was rhetorical - Don't feeerkin' answer I know what you will all say!!!! Ha ha ha!!!!

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 29/10/2008 12:04

I don't like the idea of swearing at another poster in nastyness. (In obvious jest Im all for) But its just a word, if people want to use it to express themselves then its fine, I have a mouth like a sewar but there is a time and a place for it, and with other adults online is fine imo.

ghostyfucker is just wrong, makes it sound like you're a deviant, although it would be a strange deviancy (is that a word?) to have admittedly

ghostyfucker · 29/10/2008 12:07

scaryfucker · 29/10/2008 12:08

CombustiblePumpkin · 29/10/2008 12:09
