To think that people shouldn't use the *F* word on Mumsnet

No doubt a bunch of smart alecs are going to tell me to F* off but ...

Why do some MNetters feel the need to use obscene language on here? Are they too inarticulate to express themselves without foul language? I started a thread on another topic, moving along nicely then a prolific poster told us to "all f* off". Why do that on a forum that is set up primarily to be friendly and supportive?

Just leave the foul language off MumsNet.

does that mean i am self-righteous?

filthymindedSixSixSixen · 29/10/2008 11:48

[ghrin]
I'm considering it for my next name change.

Lol amuminscotland, I use feck; dh and I use it a lot at home, although we're trying to curb it since DD2 called the dog a fecking eejit
farking makes my teeth itch so I know where you're coming from

I think there are plenty of parenting websites which censor swearing which cater for the easily offended.

PuzzleRocks · 29/10/2008 11:49

M2OJ - No, I'm saying that's how your statement message came across. Of course I don't know you personally.

zippitippitoes · 29/10/2008 11:49

it means that some people might have an accumulated sense of your sensitivity to these kinds of things

expatinscotland · 29/10/2008 11:50

'You're doing 40 in a 60 mph zone, you auld windfucker!'

I can see many uses for this around these parts!

Must text this to DH.

CatIsSleepy · 29/10/2008 11:50

oh, i do like windfucker

Ilike the fact that you can swear on MN, although in fact, I rarely do

i have never told anyone to fuck off, for example
never say never though...

Saturn74 · 29/10/2008 11:50

Windfucker, you say?
A kestrel?

They never mentioned that in my Young Ornothologist magazines, circa 1980.

DS2 is still thrilled to regale anyone and everyone with the fact that pisspot was the perfectly acceptable term for a chamberpot.

Seemingly up until his grandmother came along.

She was not amused.

PuzzleRocks · 29/10/2008 11:50

wannaBe - I suggest you avoid the Vagina Monologues

CombustiblePumpkin · 29/10/2008 11:50

Personal attacks can be reported to MN and the post should be deleted. Using the word as an exclamation or an adjective is not a problem IMO.

For those who appreciate the word and its many uses.

ewwwmy2shoesarefullofblood · 29/10/2008 11:50

I hate the word cunt....then again I hate the word belly.
but this is a grown up forum, for grown ups.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2008 11:51

'You're doing 40 in a 60mph zone, you auld windfucker!'

I can see this term being useful in this area in many ways.

Must text it to DH.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2008 11:51

sorry for the double post.

this site keeps fucking with my browser.

zippitippitoes · 29/10/2008 11:51

i dont think i hasve told anyone to fuck off either

i cant say i never would tho

PuzzleRocks · 29/10/2008 11:51

What the hell is a statement message? I am inarticulate, damn!

Peachy · 29/10/2008 11:51

DH goes onto this locked forum where everyone knows (or knows of) each other and each person has to be checked before being admitted- no not one of those pmsl, a carnival forum- and he can't say fuck on it.

I mean- what? I know these poeple, they're the most foul mouthed people I ever had the pleasure to meet! What on earth is the point? Every time you swear the PC inserts random characters- ???

And how is the meaning of Go away you &*& (random not an example) any different to 'go away you twat' anyway?

Mum2OliverJames · 29/10/2008 11:52

ok, i hope people dont think i am self-righteous

i am opinionated but i do really try to curb it because i have been trying not to offend people

is hard sometimes though

Peachy · 29/10/2008 11:52
CatIsSleepy · 29/10/2008 11:53

zippi i like knowing that I could if I wanted to

froggyfroofroo · 29/10/2008 11:53

swearing is good for you, it cools the blood down

for some reason 'sugar' 'poot' and 'fluff' don't have the same blood cooling effect, and everyone knows you really mean shit or fuck anyway.

ghosty · 29/10/2008 11:55

Ooooh, I love a good sweary thread. I feel at home there. I swear like a trooper ... but I am quite nice and I speak in a nice well modulated home counties English accent. I don't like it when people say Feck because it sounds like swearing but it's cheating as it's not. I very rarely tell anyone to Fuck off because that is not nice (unless it is DH and we are having a row and I am throwing stuff at him)
Anyhoo ...
Filthymindedsixsixsixen is a fucking genius for slipping in the word 'cunt' without anyone batting an eyelid ...

zippitippitoes · 29/10/2008 11:56

i think some people do swear gratuitously but thats their prerogative really

Peachy · 29/10/2008 11:56

I say Feck but intribute to father Jack, whom I intend to emulate in my old age (barring the girls and religios vows anyway)

stretchmarkSCREAM · 29/10/2008 11:56

I take it that was a deliberate spelling mistake filthymindedSixSixSixen??

"But to add emphasis, sometimes a good swear word just cunt be beaten..."
