To think that people shouldn't use the *F* word on Mumsnet

No doubt a bunch of smart alecs are going to tell me to F* off but ...

Why do some MNetters feel the need to use obscene language on here? Are they too inarticulate to express themselves without foul language? I started a thread on another topic, moving along nicely then a prolific poster told us to "all f* off". Why do that on a forum that is set up primarily to be friendly and supportive?

Just leave the foul language off MumsNet.

This is my favourite thread of all time

Habbibu ... my mother always told me that FUCK was an acronym ... and that Henry VIII put people in the Tower "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge"
Is that a load of wanky bollocks then?

Cali - I positively snorted when I read "Oh my Gash" ...

YABU. When we have kids, we suddenly have to stop swearing most of the time (I have learned this just today while suffering the humiliation of being told by the childminder that dd said "bugger"). This can be a very frustrating thing when you have been used to swearing freely. Mumsnet is one of the few places that we can still say cunting bollocks (for example) without fear of our three year olds repeating it in front of the vicar.

its not big and its not clever, swearing just shows how you lack proper vocabulary.

mrsgboring · 29/10/2008 23:27

DS has a vast vocabulary for a 3yo [modest parent emoticon]. He thinks fuck means "messy" (presumably because on some lapsing occasion when my habit was in the wash I said fuck when he made a mess)

I've had to confiscate all his crayons because he keeps saying they're "all fucky."

Nonsense Custy. I hear Mr Roget was a foul mouthed cunt.

Interestingly, Dr Johnson is thought to have had Tourette Syndrome.

I do not like "The C Word". It's too crude/vile/etc/etc.....

onthewarpath · 30/10/2008 09:04

YANBU. I do think it is sad people swear so much nowadays. English is such a beautiful language, with proper words and everything... I

I can't bring myself to actually type swear words (!) I just tried (!). I can do FFS if I am really cross but we're all different.

My mum still won't "let" me swear and I'm 30. She once washed my mouth out with soap when I was about 10 because I called my brother a "prat", he had just poured a bucket of water over me!!

I guess we all have different stuff that makes swearing either acceptable, or otherwise.

I don't think you can censor it. It would be like being at work, my work email didnt once let me refer to Winnie the Pooh ... hey, why?!!!

I think there is a huge difference between someone swearing (on here or in RL) and someone being sworn at.

For example, (and I am asking for it here!!) if someone called me a f c, I would be upset. If someone said F* hell, I wouldnt even think about it.
I dont think that people get sworn at very much on mnet?
