why why why why why???

they go sooooooooooooo slowly, they pull away after dithering about if it is safe or not, and they then just tootle along a silly MPH (ie, 25MPH), and then look at you as tho you are some seriously deranged boy racer when you finally get to over-take them.

I have driving issues, I know what it is like to be nervous, but they seriously make me very distrustful of other drivers as they normally finally have the finances to have a half decent car, they tend to buy one that is brand new (to see them thro their retirement.....I can understand that, really, I can), but why why why get one that is more powerful than they seem to be able to manage, and also, one that is so big that they seem to stuggle seeing over the steering wheel.

Many of them seem terrified to be out on the roads at all, and terrified of the power of the car - they do that thing where they drive along about 18 inches away from the kerb instead of taking up a proper road position

No no no, 'nice and slow' is not safe if they are going too slow and cause frustration and a build up of traffic behind

I passed my test but have stopped driving because of fear of drivers like you ie getting annoyed when I can't pull out quickly, or nudging as if to say 'hurry up' - when even if they do overtake me, they're going to see me again at the next set of lights.

What a waste of time trying to drive at speed through a city. Obv maybe you live in the country but ime country drivers are even worse and would rather risk their lives and that of innocent people by attempting suicide overtakes than drive within the posted limit for more than one mile.

yeah but there is nice and slow, and constant, or them stop/start/stop/start/ooh someone might come near us so slam brakes on/then dither in the middle of cross roads as tho they don;t know which turning to take.

I can't stand the ones who drive at 40mph no matter where they are... nmc - not sure you'd be so keen on nice and slow if you drove on the A9 in the highlands a lot... There's too fast, there's sensible for the road and conditions, and then there's so slow it's quite dangerous.

i'd like to see 20 mph in the cities although if traffic in bristol actually went that fast it would be a miracle

I detest the argument that driving slowly is unsafe due to it causing frustration: in fact, driving within the legal limit (which most drivers deem slow) is fine, and the unsafe drivers are those who take risks due to frustration.

Each driver is responsible for their own decisions - blaming slower drivers is a cop out. Obviously I see that doing 40mph on a motorway is potentially dangerous but if you just mean the speed limit of 5/10 below then it isn't any worse than speeding drivers, which ime is most of them.

Me or Psycho? I guess I just judge what's a reasonable time to get to work, say, but where we live there are country roads with few overtaking opportunities, so being stuck behind an excessively slow driver can add a lot to time taken from A to B.

Why oh why do they drive down roads (there is one near us) where the speed changes from 40, to 30, to 40, to 60 mph at a constant 40 - do they not read signs?
Driving so slow as to cause road rage is not good driving - if you can't keep up with normal traffic in normal conditions, stay off the road. (obv not saying shouldn't slow down in bad weather etc)
My uncle was pulled over in the US for not keeping up with traffic flow as he was driving 15mph lower than average and causing danger!

It's not safe - we were stuck behind one recently for ages, on a long drive up to the highlands (so not motorways). We wouldn't overtake because it was never safe to, but several people behind us were so frustrated that they overtook, unsafely, at high speed, passing several cars at once, and could have caused a horrendous accident. The senior citizen in a big jag was going at about 20 the whole way.

I generally do 29 in a 30 zone and still have tits beeping and frothing. They want 40!
On the motorway I do 70 in the slow lane and again, frothing tits roaring up behind me.

oooh, this is a bugbear of mine, too . And no, it's not safe to go much slower than the speed limit as it forces/encourages other drivers to take risks overtaking - I regularly go down a busy, bendy and dangerous A road, and older drivers, particularly at the weekend, are such a menace.

I don;t mind slow and safe, I do mind slow and dithery.

snowleopard - the dangerous drivers in the highlands (been there, never again unless by train) are the ones doing the suicide four car overtakes - not the old guys in the big cars.

The old guys are being annoying - the overtakers might kill a family.

I recently passed my test and found it really hard to please both my instructor and the other drivers behind me - in most situations, you are expected to drive 5/10 over the limit, and face total hassle if you don't.

I can see that the unsafe overtakers were the ones legally at fault. But it's still true that driving very slowly makes things difficult for other drivers and causes accidents. Because people will get frustrated and start being aggressive - they shouldn't, but they will.

Obviously 'tits' shouldn't overtake dangerously and people are responsible for their own actions.

I don't overtake unless I can see about a mile ahead - I'm pretty cautious.

I have no problem with people driving just below the speed limit or cutting speed due to bad conditions etc - but that's not what OP describes after all

but it is not slow that gets to me. It is when they go slow, dither about where they are going, look as tho they are going one way so you go round them, and then they decide that "oh no, thats the wrong way" and just drive along again and look shocked that people are going round them.

I drive no faster than the speed limit and so constantly get hassled. So I do agree with you. However slowly someone was driving, I would not overtake if it was risky. BUT pootling along at 20 in a 60 zone is not what other drivers expect and it does lead to problems. Yes, if there was a horrendous accident, the overtakers should be blamed, of course.

Agreed sl, but I blame the aggressive risk takers, not the slower drivers.

If I was new to a twisty, country road I'd go slowly too. It would be dangerous not to - how do I know what's round the next bend.
