I have got to judge.....I have to, I really do, and I am sorry, but I need to get this off my chest or I will implode, and that will be messy..........but older drivers in pawerful cars.....

why why why why why???

they go sooooooooooooo slowly, they pull away after dithering about if it is safe or not, and they then just tootle along a silly MPH (ie, 25MPH), and then look at you as tho you are some seriously deranged boy racer when you finally get to over-take them.

arghhhhh

I have driving issues, I know what it is like to be nervous, but they seriously make me very distrustful of other drivers as they normally finally have the finances to have a half decent car, they tend to buy one that is brand new (to see them thro their retirement.....I can understand that, really, I can), but why why why get one that is more powerful than they seem to be able to manage, and also, one that is so big that they seem to stuggle seeing over the steering wheel.

ok, rant over, as you were!!!

YANBU my other bug bear is driving well below the limit and then BRAKING ON EVER BLOODY CORNER agrhhhhhhhh.

We have a garden centre on the country road where we live,of every driver that drives in a dangerous( yes I do feel it is!) way 90% of them take the turning, for their cream tea and a wander!

The other problem is the neighbour of my parents who is without a doubt unsafe behind the wheel. I feel he should be retested as I don't thionk his eyesight would pass. My parents who witness his driving regularly agree

(FWIW he drives in the centre of the road at 10-15mph to avoid parked cars, leaving about 1m to his left) However I struggle as I know it is the only way he and his wife (both well into their 80's)get out and they would be house bound.

geekgirl · 27/10/2008 17:23

well it's highly f*cking frustrating to have to travel at snail's pace just because someone else isn't confident enough to be on the road - (of course it's fair enough if it's a learner driver, no problems there).

I don't take risks overtaking either, but people behind me will do, and if they crash I might, too.

I don't speed either and still don't get hassled.

doggiesayswoof · 27/10/2008 17:23

Yes psycho and they brake while going round roundabouts if they see a car waiting (said car obviously giving way to them)

Now that is dangerous imo

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/10/2008 17:23

EVERY

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 27/10/2008 17:25

I am not ranting about going slow on country lanes......I go slow on country lanes, you need to most of the time as they are narrow and windy and high hedges etc.

but slow on a motorway, or driving down a road as tho they are reading every single road sign, and then driving as tho they are about to go down one of the roads, so you go roads them, and then they change their minds.

or just driving at silly slow, not within the flow of the traffic......argh!!!

OP posts:
DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/10/2008 17:28

There is slow as within safe and legal limits and then sloooooooow dithery and unsafe these are not contry B roads but a major artery A roads

travellingwilbury · 27/10/2008 17:28

It gets on my nerves as well , but I think for me it is the fact they have spent a small fortune on a car that does 0 to 60 in 3 seconds but the car will never even see 60 in 3 yrs .

It doesn't annoy me half as much if they are in a little fiesta or something

needmorecoffee · 27/10/2008 17:29

if I'm cycling on a narrow lane - so doing about 10 mph I do pull in periodically to let my convoy overtake but I still get idiots who wont just wait. I have every right to be there at cycling speed. Drivers need to chill out.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/10/2008 17:29

sorry having a really bad typing day

travellingwilbury · 27/10/2008 17:30

People cycling don't annoy me either

Just the old men in a fast car driving at 20 mph everywhere

They normally wear a hat too

Tortington · 27/10/2008 17:32

i hear ya, i really do. one of my big bug bears too, along with women at mini roundabouts.

froggyfroofroo · 27/10/2008 17:32

the police will pull over drivers going too slowly as it is dangerous, it impedes the flow of traffic and causes road rage and dangerous manoeuvers(sp?) by other drivers.

my sister is a police officer and they have pulled slow drivers over, not sure if they get points or fines though.

kslatts · 27/10/2008 17:36

If they are doing 25mph in a 30 limit, then YABU, if they are doing 25mph in a 60 limit then you have a point.

chefswife · 27/10/2008 17:47

there is a highway DH travels to work 5 days a week. it is winding and single laned with a speed limit of 60km. you can tell if you get on that highway with locals or people who are unfamiliar with the road. locals just drive. everyone else todders along, terrified about what is around the corner, mostly because you can't see very far ahead of you. they dotter along, looking at the scenery, riding their brakes at 40km. its frustrating, particularly if you drive a standard at this speed because it difficult to keep the gears just right.

anyhow, just a stupid rant. for the most part i don't care about speed, just not too slow and have some bloody confidence. a car is a lethal weapon as a gun.

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 27/10/2008 17:48

oh, in a 30mph limit they seem to exell themselves and do 10mph

I cannot complain at 25mph in a 30limit........I often do that because that is the traffic flow.

I am still complaining about the ditthering tho!

OP posts:
chefswife · 27/10/2008 17:50

oh i wanted to add that here in British Columbia, after the age of 65, you have to take an eye test, drivers test and have a doctors note in order to renew you license every 3 years.
i think thats good. not to discriminate against the elderly, but...

we have graduating licensing for new drivers too... takes two years before you can drive by yourself without someone who is fully licensed.

ClaireDeLoon · 27/10/2008 17:55

YANBU

catweazle · 27/10/2008 17:55

You can fail your test for "undue hesitation" so you should equally get Points for driving excessively slowly.

The thing that really bugs me is when the person in front drives at exactly 40 mph the whole time, completely ignoring the signs along the way reducing the speed to 30 or increasing to 60.

Or, like the woman I got stuck behind this morning, so busy indicating that she wasn't paying attention to the road. If somebody starts indicating as they approach a side road you expect them to turn down it. No, she was indicating that she was turning left at the main junction a bit further on.

and yes it's always the old boy in the car capable of fast acceleration just pootling along.

ClaireDeLoon · 27/10/2008 17:59

"The thing that really bugs me is when the person in front drives at exactly 40 mph the whole time, completely ignoring the signs along the way reducing the speed to 30 or increasing to 60."

nods head vigorously

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 27/10/2008 19:11

chefswife, that sounds like a better system. especially with the new drivers!

OP posts:
kitbit · 27/10/2008 19:15

I hate being hassled to drive faster, but I'm not a slow driver, just being careful. I think that's a different issue. Psycho's OP on the other hand I totally agree with - FIL loves fast cars but just cannot handle them or manoevre them. And when he gets annoyed with himself as he invariably does he gets sloppy and careless and if you were driving behind him you'd swear he was over the limit. It's dangerous and there is a huge difference between driving relatively slowly but being in control, and driving slowly because you are at the edge of your ability.
Needless to say none of his children allow their offspring to get into the car when he's driving.
Rant therefore deemed reasonable!

Podrick · 27/10/2008 19:17

step away from the axe

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 27/10/2008 19:24

tis ok, the axe has been sent for sharpening ready for the next full-moon

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 27/10/2008 19:31

You can fail your driving test for driving under the speed limit

supportman · 27/10/2008 19:31

I once went through the Blackwall tunnel behind an elderly gentleman who was driving at 10mph, obviously didn't know the difference between a mandatory speed limit and the minimum speed limit which was 10mph. Which then forced everyone to under take him as he was in lane 2.
